  • Metro 2033 Redux still holds up as an engaging post-apocalyptic FPS dripping with atmosphere.

  • I might have a few gripes with the Switch version of Metro 2033 Redux, namely the limitations imposed by the joycons and its insanely long loading times, but I need to commend how impressive it is to have a game of this scope running so beautifully on the Switch’s hardware. Granted, this isn’t exactly the best pick for portable play, being slow-paced, story-driven, and dark as all hell, but it’s still a definitive purchase for survival horror fans who can’t be bothered to buy yet another Resident Evil for the Switch.

  • While certainly an interesting game, Metro 2033 won’t be for every first-person shooter fan. However, if you enjoy a more thought provoking, story-driven adventure you’ll most likely enjoy yourself. With all of the game’s DLC included, there’s a good amount of content to keep you busy.

  • Metro 2033 Redux is a top-class first-person shooter/survival horror game, a breathless experience that's been almost flawlessly ported to Switch by 4A Games. Artyom's desperate, haunting voyage through the irradiated remains of Moscow is every bit as engaging today as it was when it first released back in 2010, and this Redux version benefits massively from overhauled AI, gameplay mechanics and visuals.

  • Metro 2033 Redux is an overall solid FPS game with an interesting story and amazing dark atmosphere. It has a handful of minor flaws, but they’re not significant enough to detract from the overall experience of working your way through the creepy and unforgiving tunnels of the post-apocalyptic Moscow Metro.

  • For a game with a grim colour filter, 2010’s 2033 was also remarkably pretty. 2014’s version is a marked difference. I’m not talking a little texture upgrade here, I’m talking new meshes, new animations and reworked environments. Metro 2033 Redux is Metro 2033 tweaked and polished to a high standard; this feels like the definitive version of the game 4A originally wanted to make.

  • Metro 2033 Redux is remaking done right. It’s a perfect purchase for either newbies who haven’t experienced the first game, or vets who want to experience the game again in a brand new light. I wholeheartedly recommend Metro 2033 Redux to anyone who is a fan of shooters, horror games, stealth games or post-apocalyptic sci-fi.

  • Between 2033 and Last Light, Metro Redux is a must buy for fans of the genre, fans of the medium, and fans of good stories. Metro's script is at times bone chilling, using atmosphere masterfully and showcasing a post-apocalyptic world with a true sense of community.

  • Metro: Redux is a hauntingly beautiful game that will test your nerves as well as your trigger finger. If you want a definitive post-apocalyptic survival horror experience, I would definitely recommend the game. Also, in the winter, the game will turn your computer into a makeshift heater. What’s not to love?

  • It’s still not perfect, but the Redux version irons out a significant number of weaknesses, adding some of Last Light’s improved mechanics while also providing a welcome layer of visual polish. If you’ve never experienced Metro 2033 before this is the version you should pick up, without question. Should players who’ve already played through and enjoyed the original buy it? I’d say there’s more than enough here to justify that purchase.

About the game

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the Earth's surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age. The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside. You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised underground. Having never ventured beyond the city limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat.
