- Poor choice of words aside, I’m proud to say that I can finally admit that great gameplay alone does not necessarily make a great game. While some will argue that a few sketchy AI issues make any positive aspects to the gameplay moot, I can confidently say that Madden has some of the best overall gameplay available in a football games today.
Clay Shaver · Sep 13, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - In the end, Madden 08 is the most realistic football experience on consoles. It also happens to be the most challenging Madden since as far back as I can remember. Gone are the days when you can simply launch a Hail Mary for a quick 7. Instead, you have to think smarter, learn your plays inside-and-out, capitalise on short-yardage shotgun passes and essentially be the team's coach. That said, Madden does fair unfavourably in the presentation department and the occasional glitches.
Greg Vallentin · Sep 07, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - EA is finally taking steps to get the “next generation” football to live up to the standards it should be. It is nice to finally have nearly all of the features back and playing them on the Xbox 360. All of the new features and additions make this a game that will be played for hours on end.
jkdmedia · Sep 06, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - It'd be easy to say that this Madden is the best yet for the 360 because of the competition from the good-but-not-great All Pro 2K8. Who knows, it may be true; if so, we say thanks to 2K Sports. Regardless, we've got a whopper of an NFL game to play this season, with more good stuff to experience than most of us will ever get to. So if you'll excuse us, we've got some ankles to break and taxpayers to extort - not necessarily in that order. See you sometime next spring.
Rich Grisham · Aug 17, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Madden NFL 08 feels like a well-oiled machine. The level of familiarity that Tiburon has with the title is obvious. The Madden series has been strong year in and year out, and the developers have been able to capitalize on this. This makes the game play perfectly for the Madden faithful. Top players of Madden 07 will still reign supreme.
Jonathan Marx · Aug 14, 2007 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - If anything, Madden 08 seems to represent a tipping point of sorts for the series. You feel like the game is right on the brink of getting back to where it was four or five years ago in terms of stature and innovation. Still, while it might not be quite there yet, Madden NFL 08 offers more than enough quality content to make it worth your while, and features the best football gameplay you'll find on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Alex Navarro · Aug 13, 2007 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - Madden NFL 08 on PS3 is not a great game. It is a shadow of its cousin on 360. Though the feature set is identical, the drop to an unstable 30fps hurts considerably. The visuals and the gameplay suffer. If you are a real Madden nut and think you can fight through the framerate issues, Madden is an overall good game. It just doesn't run very well. If you only own a PS3 and live for Sundays, then there really is no other choice than to give Madden 08 a shot.
Hilary Goldstein · Aug 13, 2007 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - They say the third time's the charm and this is certainly the case with this generation of Madden. All the modes have finally made the starting lineup, and there are successful tweaks and additions to both the gameplay and options. It's still more of an evolution than a revolution, but that's like saying LaDanian Tomlinson just got better.
Game Trailers · Jan 31, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Which means the software runs solidly for newcomers, of course. The "if it ain't broke" claim still applies, but in this instance, Madden 08's competition is its younger, cheaper self. Where 07 elevated the play significantly over the thin, crammed-to-Christmas launch offering of 06, 08 lacks a proportional progress to justify purchase for many returning fans. Madden 08 stands by itself as a respectable, rewarding sim, but judged in the context of last season, it's merely a mild, expensive improvement.
