- Iconoclasts is a brilliant game that permeates from the amount of care and time put into it. It is by far one of the best of 2018, and I recommend everyone give it a go. It is now available on almost everything (still waiting on my XB1 version guys!) and even if you are as sick of the tried and true formula of so many other games in this genre, this one stands out.
Ken McKown · Aug 22, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Iconoclasts is an excellent game. The visuals and audio work well, the story is deep, the characters are well developed, and there’s a nice dose of humor thrown into the mix. The gameplay is fun, side-scrolling action with some back-tracking elements akin to games like Super Metroid. You’ll easily get 12+ hours of gameplay out of this title. The game features three difficulty modes, perfect for any gamer.
Alex Everatt · Aug 09, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Iconoclasts is one of the biggest surprises of the year. Despite occasionally suffering through the story sequences, I found that I couldn’t stop playing (it’s about 10 hours long). I can’t recommend the game highly enough--go play it.
Zachary Miller · Aug 07, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Couple those elements with some of the best 16-bit spritework we’ve seen and a killer lineup of awesome boss encounters, and you’ve got another must-have for the Switch library. It may have been eight years in the making, but this one has certainly been worth the wait; don’t miss out on this one.
Mitch Vogel · Aug 02, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Iconoclasts hit me in many ways I was expected and a lot of ways I definitely wasn’t ready for. I was pretty sure I was going to enjoy its visuals and pseudo-metroidvania gameplay, but I wasn’t expecting to be graced with a deep and thought-provoking story. Not to mention everything was done by one single human being! Be it on a Vita or on a Switch (this game begs to be played on a handheld, that’s for sure), Iconoclasts should be a definite purchase. It has a handful of flaws, but nothing that dares to tarnish its overall quality.
Leo Faria · Aug 01, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s a long, difficult journey with a large cast of characters to meet, befriend, fight, and sometimes lose along the way, creating a memorable world that will stick in your head long after the final boss is defeated.
James Cunningham · Feb 01, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Iconoclasts’ combination of clever Metroid-inspired design and lush art offers more than enough incentive to stick with it, even when the ambitious plot doesn’t always connect. This is a strange, complex game that – refreshingly – doesn't play quite like any other work in the genre. Iconoclasts offers a welcome reminder that they don't all have to play the same way.
Jeremy Parish · Feb 01, 2018 Reviewed onRead full review - With its Metroid trappings, Iconoclasts began as a familiar experience, but by the end I was left thinking more about the impactful character and narrative moments. Despite its bright and colorful aesthetic, Iconoclasts' world is a dark one, and the journey across it is one I did not expect to be so affected by. Couple that with design that would excel even without the narrative hooks, and you have a game that stands above its peers.
Kyle Hilliard · Feb 01, 2018 Reviewed on PC, PS4, Vita - Iconoclasts is a pretty fantastic game. The story is fun and interesting, the controls are tight and near perfect, the art and animation is beautiful, and many of the puzzles and traversal are both fun and challenging at the same time. If you’re into the Metroidvania style games and don’t mind a bit of backtracking, this is the game for you. I can’t suggest it enough to fans of the classic SNES side scrolling shooters and action puzzle fans.
Drew Leachman · Jan 25, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Iconoclasts is quite an enjoyable game. It has a strong foundation, with characters brimming with personality and a colorful world. Each location in the world has its own distinct look and mechanics that make you perfect your skills, learn how to use the abilities Robin has, and find new skills that will help you find your way into new spots. It’s a game that flows well, where each area might take a second or two to find out what needs to be done, but should rather quickly pick up what needs to happen to help Robin continue her journey and save her world from One Concern.
