- To conclude, Going Under is a pretty good game that manages to find its spot as a charming, parody yet critical, roguelike indie game that doesn’t innovate in the genre but has a unique charm that can resonate with many millennials and, in the end, become a joyful experience.
Danny Cruzatty · Sep 30, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It’s those wonderful creative choices that make Going Under better than the sum of its parts. Gameplay may feel unwieldy, but wonderful dungeon design and charming bosses ensure the experience is never frustrating. Add in sharp writing, fun characters, and some genuine laughs, and it’s hard not to crack a smile.
David Silbert · Oct 30, 2020 Reviewed on Switch - I liked Going Under although I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could’ve. You see, I find that a very appealing part for me in a roguelike is the ability to have a broken run; while it is true in Going Under the problem of being underpowered is relatively gone, so is the possibility of the opposite. There is no one-shotting bosses or wiping rooms in an instant, the most similar thing to the latter only happens in very few cases. I find it quite unsatisfactory to go around dealing almost the same damage and without any special effects.
Noparg · Oct 25, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I wouldn’t say that this game is on par with all those high-caliber games we have right now but I can say that this game can stand on its own and can be very entertaining for the right person. I don’t think I ever had this much fun in a game that seems so simple on the surface but has real depth into it. If you’re looking for a game to jump into while you wait for the next big game, I say give this one a try and I’m sure you won’t regret it.
Leif Rey Bornales · Oct 15, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - More than just a unique roguelike with a nice combat system and tons of customization options, Going Under is also a great piece of satire. Anyone who has ever worked for a tech company or startup, or has ever had an annoying boss who forced them to do chores that were completely unrelated to what they had been hired for, will definitely relate to our protagonist’s struggles.
Leo Faria · Oct 08, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It would be easy to say that Going Under’s witty characters and fantastic presentation carry it, but underneath its sarcastic surface there’s a great rogue-like that’s entirely worth checking out all on its own. Don’t let it go under your radar.
George Foster · Oct 06, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Going Under isn’t your standard roguelike, it carries more charisma and playfulness than you’ll find in many of examples of the genre. No, Going Under doesn’t breathe new life into the roguelike nor does it give you anything outside of a rinse and repeat formula of clearing dungeons over and over, but the sense of humour and vibrancy on display makes up for its shortcomings and you will feel as though it’s a worthwhile internship while it lasts.
Jamie Baldock · Oct 01, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Going Under is a fun dungeon crawler that parodies capitalism and the culture surrounding it. While a shorter experience, the game is given a solid level of replayability thanks to the procedural generation and wide variety of weapons. Though the combat feels like it’s lacking depth at times, it’s still fun to sling office equipment around at foes. Going Under is a great offering from the team at Aggro Crab and Team17.
Donovan Erskine · Sep 30, 2020 Reviewed on PC, PS4, XB1, SwitchRead full review - Going Under is a roguelite that ditches some of the genre's usual depth in favour of a compelling satirical tale. It won't last you too long, but there's enough here to hold your interest as you delve into some truly unique dungeons. Though it isn't the best dungeon crawler, it's certainly one of the most unusual, and we love it for that.
Stephen Tailby · Sep 28, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - This isn’t the longest experience you can find on Switch – taking around 10 hours to fully complete including side tasks – but it provides an entertaining story, and one that’s filled with great combat and high replayability. Keeping you hooked until the end, this dungeon crawler comes with a modest recommendation.
