- FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage tries to be part arcade racer and part simulator, and for the most part it works. The main problem is that it doesn't push boundaries in either direction. So if you're trying to get immersed in a realistic racing game, you're better off with Grid. If you enjoy silly stunts and racing at insane speeds then you should wait to see how Burnout Paradise PC turns out. Still, hybrid racers of this type are pretty rare on the PC in this day and age, and this is by no means a bad game.
Jimmy Thang · Sep 12, 2008 Reviewed on PCRead full review - This is one solidly designed game, but it should be, since it's been built on a pre-existing game. The upgrades to this game aren't enough to make me recommend it if you own FlatOut 2, but, for everyone else, it's a green light. Remember how I said I was going to help you acquire more than a million dollars? Well, all you have to do is find at least 50,000 reviews of mine that tell you not to purchase specific games. This will save you a fortune in the long run. You are welcome.
Cole Smith · Aug 28, 2008 Reviewed on PCRead full review - For those who missed out on FlatOut 2 for the original Xbox, FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage for the Xbox 360 is a wonderful upgraded port that not only looks great but handles beautifully as well. There are a few returning weak spots and the load times can be too long but this is a game that is just far too much fun to want to put down.
jkdmedia · Oct 23, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - What it's ultimately going to boil down to with FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage is whether you already bought FlatOut 2 or not. The new content in Ultimate Carnage is unquestionably a big step above FlatOut 2, but what is questionable is whether it's enough to justify paying another $50 for a game that, for as much as it's changed, still feels extremely familiar.
Alex Navarro · Oct 08, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - While this is one of the best last-generation updates yet on the Xbox 360, I can't help but feel a little cheated. With all of the upgrades in graphics, gameplay, and play modes, I don't understand why the core of this game remained FlatOut 2. If Bugbear had just changed some of the tracks, vehicles, and added some new ragdoll minigames, this could have easily been FlatOut 3. Although much has improved in this title, I still don't believe this game is a must buy.
Adam Brown · Oct 02, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage is one of this or any other console generation's better ports, though it is not without its issues. Not being able to conduct races on local machines is a glaring omission, and load times can certainly cut down on Party Mode's fun factor. Still, Ultimate Carnage is a solid game, and its Stunt Mode alone can be played for endless hours without a trace of boredom seeping in.
David Craddock · Oct 01, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The racing is, above complaints aside, still bloody great fun. And when you're bored of that there are eight-player online bouts, with Destruction Derby matches guaranteed to have you cleaning the laugh-spit from your Xbox Live headset. And the series' famous party games, now without tedious waiting in between rounds.
Andy Robinson · Jun 25, 2007 Reviewed on X360 - FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage comes in the aftermath of Xbox 360 heavyweights Forza 2 and Colin McRae: Dirt, but it can stand shoulder to shoulder with these giants. The single-player Career won't take all that long to complete, but with a hugely entertaining multiplayer mode both on and offline, there's a good chance you'll continue playing for a while after.
Tom Orry · Jun 21, 2007 Reviewed on PC, X360Read full review - Overall, it's a very entertaining low-tech drive and demolish racer, but with one caveat for veterans of the series - they'll have seen much of the game already in FlatOut 2. Sure, some content has been added to the single-player, although the multiplayer has been beefed up more with online racing provided courtesy of Games For Windows Live. The visuals are far more polished, and upping the amount of cars in a race from eight to twelve has certainly increased FlatOut's carnage factor.
Darren Allen · Sep 08, 2008 Reviewed on PCRead full review - No, it's not must buy material, being scrappy around the edges and with the car handling not being as responsive as we'd like. But not everything has to be pristine and perfect - sometimes it's good to have a game that offers a balls-out fun experience. It's your dirty kebab after a night on the town; a guilty pleasure that you're going to enjoy, no matter how bad the aftertaste is going to be.
