  • It's always difficult to review a free-to-play game - especially one that's going to be supported with continuous free content updates that could easily adjust the quality significantly. Balance adjustments could break this game's back or make it even better - but as it stands right now, I feel safe in being able to say that Record Keeper is pretty solid and well worth a look as a quick-fire time killer for FF and RPG fans. It's certainly no All the Bravest.

  • A easy to pick-up and play bit of free fun for a weekend or lazy afternoon, but leaves one aching for a well-told true-to-form Final Fantasy cross-over that does it right.

  • The game offers a good level of action, strategy and variety to keep us glued: with a long list of characters, legendary weapons, spells and summons, as well as a turn-based combat system in real time, your possible strategies are almost endless. Different daily bonuses and weekly events with special rewards make it easy to play again and again. The retro style graphics are simply fantastic and the whole soundtrack is a copy of the original. Reminiscent of the original!

Final Fantasy: Record Keeper isn’t bad by any means, but it’s not substantial enough to recommend over any actual Final Fantasy RPG. As an old-school fan, its nostalgic turn-based combat and customization entertained me for awhile, but without any real story or character development, it just couldn’t hold my attention long enough to grind out access to the paid-for items and characters.

  • Record Keeper isn’t offensive. It can sometimes be a little fun. But it’s not incredibly engaging. The free-to-play stuff is handled well, but the actual game is just not interesting enough. You can actually get a lot out of it without paying a cent, but what you’re getting isn’t all the compelling. The turn-based fighting is just too simple. The crafting and unlocking of new items can keep you going, but the game feels more like a grind than a fantasy.

  • Even with its imperfections, Final Fantasy Record Keeper is a game you’ll gladly sink hours into as you fine-tune your party and play around with abilities and equipment.

  • Final Fantasy Record Keeper’s freemium trappings don’t ruin the fun, but they do force you to pace yourself. Given how much of a blatant nostalgia trip it’s supposed to be that may rub some players the wrong way, but I’ve been having fun with it in small doses.

  • Combining a respectful homage to its source material with a decent battle system and loads of unlockables, Final Fantasy: Record Keeper is the real deal in my book. It’s also a game in which the majority of its freemium systems simply exist in the background as options for players to quickly advance rather than pay walls that sooner or later need to be addressed. I implore all fans of the series to give this game a try, as it’s nearly a must-play for those folks in my opinion.

  • Final Fantasy Record Keeper will please many fans, but RPG fanatics wanting to sink their teeth into something may be taken aback by the initial lack of content available at launch.
