- ...does an excellent job capturing the addictive gameplay that made Dr. Mario so memorable and fun
Jason Jasicki · Jan 31, 2014 Reviewed on Wii U - I love seeing Nintendo re-imagining classic franchises, especially ones like Dr. Mario that don’t get enough love, but this small package does more to whet my appetite than satiate it. Still, for $15 fans of the formula cannot go wrong. This is as close as we are going to get to a proper Dr. Mario sequel for a while, so while the prescription doesn’t cure all woes; it does help dull the pain.
Ken McKown · Jan 30, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - While I greatly enjoyed Dr. Luigi, most of my joy can be attributed to my profound love for Dr. Mario. Those who have such a nostalgic tie to the game will love Dr. Luigi in the same way the new iterations of Tetris keep fans from the '80s and '90s coming back. However, with so many similar games available for the cheap on mobile devices, I doubt Dr. Luigi will be contagious enough for newcomers to this particular puzzle series.
Keri Honea · Jan 21, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Arika is the mind behind the amazing Tetris: The Grand Master series of arcade games, and I'm disappointed that it can't bring a similar thrill and exhilaration to this classic series. But it could well be that Dr. Mario's pacing and mechanics are relics of its era that would be difficult to bring up to modern standards. Dr. Luigi provides some shallow entertainment, but it's not exactly what the doctor ordered.
Heidi Kemps · Jan 16, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Overall, Dr. Luigi certainly scratches that virus-busting itch, and is especially fun with two players. Fans of the series and Tetris addicts shouldn't hesitate to pick it up from the Wii U eShop. It's the kind of game that doesn't need to change a great deal between versions, and its designers have wisely stuck to the basics while adding some entertaining twists to the gameplay with Operation L.
Becky Cunningham · Jan 16, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Dr. Luigi doesn't have any wheels being reinvented, and there are no major overhauls to what was enjoyable about Dr. Mario. There's nothing here on the level of a cat-suited Mario or even a flying go-kart. After a year that showed Nintendo straying from their comfort zones and confidently iterating on sacred cows, it's a bit of a letdown to see Dr. Luigi make so little forward progress.
Ben Kuchera · Jan 13, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - It's still a far cry from the top-tier classic puzzlers, but Dr. Luigi manages to be fun enough... even if there is that nebulous whiff of tragedy about the whole affair. On the other hand, it doesn't leave the nasty taste in your mouth that you get from exploitatively designed free-to-play puzzlers like Candy Crush Saga, so that's something.
Jeremy Parish · Jan 10, 2014 Reviewed on Wii U - Dr. Luigi is a fun, if overly familiar puzzle game that will satisfy anyone who knows what they're getting when they download it from the eShop. While we would have liked a little more variety and some more twists for Luigi's puzzle début on Wii U, Dr. Luigi is a good way to end the Year of the Tall Green Brother. It's a simple, clear experience with strong gameplay that reminds us why we love the Mario Bros. in the first place.
Lee Meyer · Jan 09, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Dr. Luigi does a lot of things right. Operation L is a surprisingly drastic change to Dr. Mario’s established formula, and the improved Virus Buster mode serves as a welcome reprieve from the other modes’ more frantic action.
Scott Thompson · Jan 09, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - When Nintendo first announced Dr. Luigi during the most recent Nintendo Direct, Operation L mode took center stage. While this turns out to be the least enjoyable part of this farewell to the Year of Luigi, Dr. Luigi does offer other competent updates to the classic gameplay. I can’t get the classic tune out of my head or the smile off my face.
