  • It’s nice to have Darksiders III, and as a result, the entire franchise on-the-go, but let’s be real here: this is not the best version of the game. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. It suffers from poor visuals and an even more unstable framerate than the one that plagued the original PS4 and Xbox One releases of the game. You will want to get Darksiders III on the Switch only if you’re a die-hard fan of the franchise or if you’re into grabbing these novelty Switch ports of games that supposedly should not be able to run on such inferior hardware.

  • Darksiders III is a more challenging take on a series that wasn’t exactly known for being easy in the first place. It changes up its influences somewhat while maintaining its unique take on action adventure. Outside of the obvious omission of a map, the simple act of playing Darksiders III is fun, challenging, and rewarding.

  • It’s not that Darksiders III is a bad game, because combat is both exhilarating and fun, but there is simply no good reason to pick it up as a Switch game if you’re able to play it on any of the other platforms it is available on. If it’s patched up, and perhaps has received a significant price drop, it might be worth looking into, but for now, we’re going to have to say you’re better off skipping this one.

  • Darksiders III on Switch is a poor port of a distinctly average entry in the series. Constant technical issues make fighting and platforming more frustrating than fun, long loading times follow every death and the further along you get, the worse these issues seem to become. It's a shame as we're pretty big fans of the series in general, but if you have any other means of playing this one we'd advise you give this clunky version a miss.

  • All in all, Darksiders 3 feels like an incredibly safe game. There’s precious little to elevate Darksiders 3 to the level of the previous two games, let alone its peers in 2018. It’s a game that offers few surprises, few challenges, and few moments of greatness. What it does, it does to a satisfactory level and never kicks on from there.

  • Darksiders III may be the weakest Darksiders game so far but that doesn’t stop it from being a good game in its own right. Its really strong combat system more than makes up for its graphical issues and occasionally disappointing level design.

  • I love its character and enemy designs; its world draws you in and surprises you with the way all of its environments are linked together; and it really does have some epic boss fights. Throw in some light puzzling and an engaging story, and you have a no-frills adventure game that somehow feels fresh. Games like this, that sit comfortably between indie hits and AAA giants, just aren’t that commonplace anymore, and that saddens me. Can we have some more, please?

  • Darksiders III is a frustrating, awkward sequel to a series that’s charmingly stupid, but there’s a lot of fun to be had if you give up on getting good. Do yourself a favor and tone down the difficulty level so that you can enjoy the crazy character designs and ridiculous fantasy world that Gunfire Games has built. Fans will be glad that this underdog of a series at least got a third chapter, but if you’re new to Darksiders, you might want to start at the beginning.

  • The overall feel is that the developer may have rushed the release of Darksiders III. I couldn’t help but feel that it was all almost there to be marvelous and extraordinary gaming experience instead of just satisfying one. After all, the general concept on which the game is based is strong enough to allow developers to create a compelling story with a little bit more complex play then just running around and killing off the enemy.

  • Ultimately, while the setting, characters, and storytelling feel right at home, Darksiders III swings for the fences with its combat ambitions and only just barely manages to get on base. It gets points for trying something new, but the end result is a muddled set of ideas that clash with each other, with nothing in place to soften that collision.
