- Overall Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a good title that is marred by the expectations that the Modern Warfare name brings with it. The campaign has some really stellar gameplay moments that are brought down by the mediocre plot. Multiplayer was fun but felt a bit like the competition’s output (despite there being no Battlefield release this year) which may be a turn off for some.

Greg Burke · Dec 06, 2019 Reviewed on PC, PS4, XB1Read full review - Modern Warfare has become one of the most successful entries in the series, though the overall package isn’t indicative of that. While the campaign is top-notch, the multiplayer has plenty of flaws and the Spec Ops mode leaves a lot to be desired. The updates have improved the experience somewhat, but the microtransactions that have emerged only served to leave a sour taste in your mouth.
Ashley Bates · Dec 05, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Once the technical issues I faced were eliminated and my gameplay stabilized; I have found this to be easily one of the most enjoyable recent games in the series and one of the best overall. I cannot wait to see what they do next as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a great new addition to the series that blends old and new with a gripping story and relentless action.
gareth · Dec 02, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The story is meant to be controversial, pulling on the heartstrings of the player to tell a story of why war today is so much more convoluted than it used to be. In the story, many characters go through challenging moments that make the player ask whether they can handle making the hard decisions. While the story gets dark with instances of torture and terrorist attacks, the game feels like it was scared to go all the way, holding back when situations should have pushed for more. The story is meant to be controversial, pulling on the heartstrings of the player to tell a story of why war today is so much more convoluted than it used to be. Chris Hepburn · Nov 20, 2019 Reviewed on PS4 - It's easy to be a little jaded about the fact that Call of Duty is going back to the Modern Warfare well. This latest entry into the franchise seems to be a significant improvement over previous entries, and it's closer to the type of game that the developers have been perfecting for years. The campaign is done well, the cooperative multiplayer is challenging, and the adversarial multiplayer is arguably better than it has ever been. Perhaps most importantly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare appeals to long-standing fans and new players alike.
Tony "OUberLord" Mitera · Nov 11, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a decent reimagining of the Modern Warfare that pushed the franchise in a more modern package, as the series stepped away from WWII shooters thanks to the original MW. If you loved the arcade feel of Black Ops 4, you might not like the realistic approach of this one, especially when you are easily annoyed by campers. Other than that, if you lacked a proper campaign in the latest CoD iterations, this one will provide you with a couple of hours of single-player fun.
Ibuki · Nov 11, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It's easy to pick apart these components when isolated, but where does Modern Warfare stand among other Call of Duty games as a whole? It's certainly the best Call of Duty game we've received in years, but exactly where it falls will depend on how favorably you view the older games and how influenced you are by nostalgia. Its campaign is exemplary, and even if people have inevitable complaints and suggestions about the multiplayer mode, it feels like the culmination of what people have been asking for since the days of wall-running and questionable gadgets. One thing is clear though: Modern Warfare definitely has the potential to be people's favorite Call of Duty game, but the games-as-a-service model will mean its up to Infinity Ward and Activision to make sure that potential is realized in the coming months.
Tanner Dedmon · Nov 08, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A passable entry in the long-running series, the latest Modern Warfare is polished but lacks creativity. It’s certainly more of the same as a return to a once-beloved sub-series. Sadly, it fails to invigorate and impress on the same level as the groundbreaking Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Still , the game has a dedicated fanbase and the developers undoubtedly cater to that crowd.
Garland Pan · Nov 06, 2019 Reviewed on PS4 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare retreads old ground in the hopes of calling back to the good old days and does so in the most spectacularly polarizing way possible. If you can ignore or forgive the Shock and Awful approach to the singleplayer, then there’s still a lot to appreciate here.
