Critic Reviews
- Brawlhalla is an arena platform fighting game heavily inspired by Super Smash Bros. with real-time multiplayer and over 50 distinct heroes with unique abilities and weapons.
NimbleThor · Mar 23, 2021 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Brawlhalla wears its inspirations on its sleeve, without coloring inside the lines. Its goofy art style is pleasing to the eyes, and the gameplay loop is top-notch. Best of all: it isn’t pay-to-win.
Brady Meyers · Aug 19, 2020 Reviewed on AndRead full review - As much as I like Brawlhalla, I find it tremendously unsatisfying to play using a touch screen. This limits its appeal significantly, as it's only worth playing if you are ok with routinely whipping out a controller to do so. There are some other quirks to the game itself, for sure, but Brawlhalla is otherwise a surprisingly fun and focused platform fighter that is uncompromised in its mobile form.
Campbell Bird · Aug 11, 2020 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Though a bit uninspired, Brawlhalla still stands as a solid example of how to do a proper platform fighter, with several game modes, a diverse cast and a beautiful art style making this one easy to recommend. Perhaps best of all, it’s totally free, so you really don’t have anything to lose by giving it a try. At worst, you’ll find a Smash clone that doesn’t have a ton of new ideas; at best, you’ll find a new go-to for when you have a few friends over for a gaming session.
Mitch Vogel · Nov 22, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Few titles have approached the fighting game genre quite like Super Smash Bros., blending 2D platforming action with traditional combo-based combat. While I would be tempted to suggest that Brawlhalla is put at a disadvantage because it lacks heroes as immediately recognizable as the Nintendo classics, the ill-fated PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale proves that you need more than a handful of beloved characters to make a great game. Brawlhalla makes an earnest attempt to write its own destiny. Yet it remains under the looming shadow of Super Smash Bros., its presence on PC and PlayStation 4 its saving grace. If you’ve been looking to shelve your Wii U but Smash 4 has been holding you back, maybe you should give Brawlhalla an earnest shot.
Jeremy Johnson · Oct 29, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Some presentation niggles aside, Brawlhalla is an entertaining fighter with fun, punchy combat that just about manages to capture that “one more match” feeling. While it isn’t quite as tightly designed as the seminal Super Smash Bros., the large roster, wide range of modes, and a reasonable level of depth help it achieve a similar balance of accessibility and challenge - you can play as casually or as competitively as you like. With pay-to-win nowhere to be seen and exceedingly good online play, this is one free-to-play title that’s well worth a try.
Stephen Tailby · Oct 22, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - With that said however, Brawlhalla is a game that’s easy to get into and a hellafun to play even if you suck at it. But what I really liked about Brawlhalla is that you can also play the game offline on top of the online features the game natively has. So at least if you suck at playing online matches, you can at least bring on the pain to your friends offline and make them feel as crappy as your online matches.
Vincent Haoson · Oct 05, 2017 Reviewed onRead full review - Brawlhalla is a great, free alternative to Super Smash Bros., but just doesn’t have the same spark that makes it stand out beyond that. Still, if you love the grind and want something new to play with your friends without needing an online subscription, this is a good choice.
Aimee Hart · Jun 18, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Almightree has its one clever idea which forms the basis of its twenty levels. But this game isn’t worth anywhere near the £19.99 eShop price.

Clockwork VALKRIs salt these slugfests with powerful weapons and gadgets. Fighters scramble to grab swords, hammers, blasters, rocket lances and more! Every weapon changes your play style and your options. Gadgets like mines, bombs, and spiked spheres add even more danger into the mix, letting fighters change the course of battle with a well timed-throw or carefully laid trap.
