  • Assassin's Creed Origins may have went bigger in terms of sheer size, and Valhalla has gone on to further improve and enhance the flow of combat - but there's no doubting that Origins' majestic setting, its characters, iconic locations and sense of mystery, have yet to be topped. With some absolutely belting DLC to get your hands on once you've wrapped up the beefy main campaign here, this is one game that we absolutely urge to you pick up on Xbox Game Pass.

  • Assassin’s Creed: Origins was well worth the wait. Long-time fans and new players alike will enjoy the vast and detailed world of ancient Egypt. Gameplay changes, while a little jarring to past fans, seem overall to have been made for the better, and the game plays like a more cohesive experience than ever before. Ubisoft’s decision to take more time to craft this new adventure was well worth it and has shown the gaming community that great things will continue to come.

I could go on and on about how much I’ve fallen in love with the setting, the improvements to the core gameplay, and the way it feels like Ubisoft have breathed new life into the franchise. The year off and restructure of the game has done wonders for it, almost bringing Assassin’s Creed into the RPG territory rather than just being and action adventure game.

  • The Assassin’s Creed series has suffered for years by not changing up enough to make each new entry worth it. After playing over 50 hours of Assassin’s Creed Origins I found myself impressed with just how much it changed without really ripping out the soul of the series. Longtime fans shouldn’t hesitate in grabbing this one, but those who’ve been turned off by the series in the past may want to look into it as well. This isn’t just the birth of the Assassins, but also a rebirth for the series.

  • You can nit-pick all you like about the odd funny glitch here and there and some duff NPC dialogue, but Assassin’s Creed Origins is a near flawless open-world gaming experience. After a year’s absence, Assassin’s Creed is back and it has been reborn. And I’ll happily admit that I’ve got egg on my face, because it’s better than ever.

  • Assassin’s Creed Origins came out after a rare two-year absence for the franchise, showing Ubisoft have taken the time to rediscover the primal essence of Assassin’s Creed. It’s definitely in the upper echelons of the Creed pantheon, alongside Assassin’s Creed 2 and Black Flag. It’s a stunning and diverse world to explore that entreats you to uncover its countless secrets. It’s also the most mechanically polished and effortlessly intuitive of all the Creed games. It’s the sort of game that the most cynical reviewer would desperately try to find fault with, but would be dodged and parried at every turn like Bayek’s artful swordplay. Don’t just walk like an Egyptian, but run like an Olympian to your local games store to pick it up!

  • I could wax on about Assassin’s Creed Origins for a long time. For all its foibles it’s a staggering achievement, and most certainly the best the series has ever offered alongside Black Flag. Those who prefer the dense city networks of the original games may bounce off it a little, but for anyone even remotely interested in the prospect of The Witcher and Assassin’s Creed crossing paths, this comes highly recommended.

  • Without a doubt the best Assassin's Creed game since Black Flag – and right up there with the best entries in the entire series – Assassin's Creed Origins is a top notch open world title. Egypt itself is the star of the show, Ubisoft having meticulously crafted a stunningly detailed and varied landscape, but outside of the setting, a parade of gameplay and design improvements make this the roaring return to form that the franchise desperately needed.

  • Oddly enough, if you accept that maybe this lovely ancient Egypt is worth admiring just a little longer, Assassin’s Creed: Origins eases into a sort of post-game retiree stage. There are a few puzzles baked into the map and a handful of collectibles to complete. There are rumors of four beasties that need killing, like the Spanish treasure galleons at the end of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.

  • With Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Ubisoft has found an oasis in the desert. It’s refreshing, blending sensible new mechanics with an established formula; moreover, it feels as though it was designed by a team with their eyes and ears open. The rulebook was far from thrown out, but it’s been burnished to an impressive sheen, and this is the best the series has been since Ezio’s heyday.
