The game feels provocative in its first few hours, but this isn’t enough for a solid recommendation outside of die-hard fans of the point-and-click genre.
The team at Experiment 101 have done just that with Biomutant. They created a game that uses elements from games that we’ve loved in the past, while simultaneously moving these elements forward and blending them together to show us that video games can be so much more than we ever imagined they could be.
Season 2 hits all the right notes. Each episode will take about 30 minutes or so, much like a standard episode of television, which makes it easy to play the game in bite size pieces or complete the game in one sitting. It will be hard for anyone who hasn’t played season 1 to jump in and understand what is happening, but it’s an entertaining ride start to finish. If you haven’t played season 1 yet, we recommend playing it immediately and then taking a dive head first into season 2.
This is the complete package. This game is right at home on the Switch and, due to the length and setup of the game, it can be played in a single setting or attacked in bite size pieces on the go. The best part of the whole experience was not having to save the princess.
Olija is a game that, when it works, is a really fun time. But when you can’t figure out where to go next due to a lack of direction or, even worse, just struggle to string together the right combo with the harpoon it can be incredibly frustrating.
Disjunction rides its strengths of rewarding stealth gameplay and profound narrative to create a fantastic indie experience. The game’s deep systems of customization and stellar pixel art make it easy to recommend to any gamer.
Loop Hero can feel somewhat grindy with the ever important material drops and the lack of engagement in gameplay may detract some. Overall though, Loop Hero is great for quick pick up and play sessions and some engaging card based strategy.
Ghostrunner has a standout soundtrack, top notch voice acting, and worlds that are not only structured well, but beautifully designed. In a time where nearly every game demands your full attention, Ghostrunner actually deserves it.
Disc Room is a fun, fast, and challenging experience with nearly infinite replayability. There isn’t much to the story, but that isn’t the point. In arcade games such as this, the focus should be on gameplay mechanics and it definitely is. At a price tag of $14.99, we recommend Disc Room for those looking for a challenging experience that can be played over and over.
9 Monkeys of Shaolin shines through its strengths of variety, a surprising amount of combat depth, and the accessibility of quick jump and out gameplay. The package is both complimented and enhanced by its coop multiplayer and intriguing story. While its performance and design oddities are enough to raise an eye brow, we don’t think it’s enough to nix the fun that the game offers.
