- Alien Breed 3: Descent tops off Team17's revival fittingly enough. It's atmospheric, lengthy and ultimately enjoyable though it does little to build upon its heritage, either of the 1991 original or the two games preceding it. For 800 Microsoft Points it's hard to quibble at what's a sturdy if unimaginative old school shooter, but its stubborn faith in the original template only goes to show how far we've come.
Martin Robinson · Dec 14, 2010 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - This lack of originality is AB3's biggest downfall. While the gameplay itself can be fun, as demonstrated in the survivor mode and multiplayer co-op, the single-player story completely lacks any inspiration. Environments and effects look good, but, again, they're just too generic to make an impression. A few additions to the gameplay to break up the running and gunning, such as vacuum areas with time limits on oxygen, and item upgrades, would be much better if Dead Space hadn't done it better two years ago.
Tom Dann · Nov 26, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Despite its repetitive gameplay, Alien Breed 3: Descent is solid. While there isn't much in the way of innovation, Descent is a great mindless shooter to kill in a weekend or with a friend. It doesn't break new ground, but is a great addition to the Xbox Live Arcade or PSN.
D'Marcus Beatty · Nov 17, 2010 Reviewed on PC, X360Read full review - The story makes no sense and has no decent ideas, the gameplay is just a repetition of the same inane formula ad nauseum, the combat is unexciting, the graphics and sound are terrible, and the whole thing feels like it was designed to be as frustrating as humanly possible. The sum of this game's parts is considerably worse than any of its individual aspects. If previous games in the franchise are like this, which I doubt on account of the series' popularity (which is to say, it has fans), then I suppose I could recommend this to fans of the series. In my opinion, however, just be safe and stay the hell away from Alien Breed 3.
Arthur Kabrick · Mar 20, 2011 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - Same old same old, then - Alien Breed 3: Descent is not the sequel we were hoping for, dragging the series out rather than building on it. Still, for Alien Breed fanatics, the story will at least provide closure and more of the same. If you haven't played the rest of the series, don't bother starting here.
Mike Rose · Dec 07, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Team 17 makes up for this in other areas, of course, with the entertaining co-op survival mode, and a three-level co-op campaign of its own. It's a question of how much the lack of co-op in the main story mode bothers you. I'm still of the opinion that it's a glaring omission of something that was fundamental to what made the originals so enjoyable in the first place.
