- It’s fun for nostalgia’s sake to go back and reexamine the past, but Aion Classic doesn’t seem so much like a “revisiting the past” as it does a “let’s hop on the ‘Classic’ bandwagon” that World of Warcraft started. As evident by the absolutely insane pricing for the Daeva Pass, Aion Classic comes across more like a cheap cash-grab than as a service to the fans. For my money, I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time in Aion Classic.
Garrick Durham-Raley · Jul 27, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It's a shame that Aion's early engaging gameplay so quickly devolves into a mind-numbing grind. This is a great-looking game with an interesting premise, and its combat system--while flawed--could certainly teach other MMOGs a thing or two about accessibility. If the zones you spend your time in from levels 10 to 50 were half as well put together as the starter zones, then this would be an easy game to recommend, but that's currently not the case.
Justin Calvert · Dec 08, 2009 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Character creation and the flight dynamic are definitely worth a look, but the main problem is that while the gameplay is inviting enough initially, it starts to bog down as you near level 20 and there are not as many quests. You may find yourself repeating the tired, old kill “X” number of monsters simply to try to get to level 25 when you can indulge in the PvP elements more freely. There are objectives in the scope of the game, but the grind does come into play.
jkdmedia · Nov 08, 2009 Reviewed on PCRead full review - So obviously, if you enjoy both aspects in an MMO, Aion is definitely for you. If you lean towards PvE, there is enough content for you to enjoy for a few months but longevity may be an issue. Of course there's always a chance that more content will be introduced before you get tired of it, and who knows you might even enjoy PvP-on-wings.
Marissa Monera · Oct 08, 2009 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In the end, Aion is one of the best, most well-polished MMORPGs to be released in a long time, which is reinforced by its popularity and hype. It stays within the traditions of an aging genre and makes sure to maximize on it at the same time. Nevertheless, its lack of unique components doesn't help set it apart from the competition, and calls into question Aion's ability to establish a solid, faithful, and long-lasting community.
Derek Hidey · Sep 21, 2009 Reviewed on PCRead full review - That being said, the emphasis on grinding, the linear environment and the rather uninspired early levels pose a serious threat to this games growth. Whilst these are things that cannot be changed, it will depend on what NCSoft will do next which will ultimately make or break it.
Joe Robinson · Oct 23, 2009 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you don't like the sound of the Abyss, however - if you're the sort of player who likes an online world to bend to your whim, rather than bend you to its own - then committing to Aion is a gamble, because there's not much else to be wrung from it but the grind. A streamlined, structured, gorgeous grind, an addictive and even rewarding grind if you're that way inclined, but a grind nonetheless.
Oli Welsh · Sep 21, 2009 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With the game almost two years in development and beta, and the pedigree of previous games created by NCSoft, Aion fortunately isn't plagued with the usual opening night jitters. It's finely balanced and very well engineered. It delivers some real innovation in the genre, particularly in game balance and graphics, and it's a refreshing and very real alternative for MMORPG players.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
In ancient times, the Cataclysm shattered the Tower of Eternity. Siel, the Lady of Time, gave her life to establish a massive Aetheric Field, and by these actions prevented Atreia from being destroyed outright. The Aetheric Field caused the ancient, sacred lands around the tower to be locked in stasis, and banished all who would threaten the tower's sanctity.
