  • Skyrim VR is not only a landmark title for PSVR, but for VR as a whole. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first visit to Tamriel or you’re a seasoned veteran who has played every re-release twice, this game is going to wow you and have you coming back for more. PSVR has come a long way, and Skyrim VR is its crowning jewel. With a lower price tag and numerous quality games and experiences, PSVR is now for everyone.

  • I finally understand the hype behind Skyrim. This is a great game. An amazing game. A huge RPG full of content, full of possibilities on what to do and where to do it, with rich lore, amazing soundtrack and surprisingly passable motion controls. I appreciate the love Bethesda is showing towards the Switch, and I can’t wait to see what else they’re planning for the system in the near future!

  • Despite the obvious flaws, playing the game in VR is definitely worth the price of admission and I highly recommend it as a must buy for any VR owner. Their January 30th update shows that they do plan to continue supporting this game. I’m jealous of every single person who’s going to be experiencing it for the first time ever on a VR headset because I’d have done terrible things to get my hands on this experience on its original release in 2011. Let’s cross our fingers for a vocal mic dragon shout update in the future so I one day get to hurl bodies in the air simply by yelling at them. In the meantime, I’ll continue working on that in real life.

We all know that Skyrim is amazing, but many people have played it for hundreds of hours at this point and the massive price tag just doesn’t seem worth it to experience it in VR. I also can’t see anyone wanting to spend the kind of time that this game demands with a headset strapped to their face. The time I’ve spent using my PlayStation VR has mostly been with smaller games and experiences; ones that can be played for short bursts. Skyrim is not one of those games, demanding long and intense play sessions. As such, I feel that this would have been better served as a low cost add-on, with the ability to transfer saves to the standard version of the game.

  • Even with this misstep, I can’t help but keep jumping back into Skyrim. For a game that I’ve spent countless hours on multiple platforms with before that’s incredible. I never expected to be sucked back in, but the level of immersion while exploring this epic world is almost unbelievable. For anyone that’s dreamed of a virtual world while reading Ready Player One or watching Sword Art Online, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR takes us a major leap forward into that reality.

  • Overall, diving back into the world of Skyrim was both nostalgic and exciting. Obliviously if you enjoyed the original but missed out on the DLC or just want to revisit this adventure, Skyrim is a great addition to your Switch library.

  • However, and I am going to repeat myself again here and sound like a critical parrot, this is one of the most beloved games of all-time in full (expansions and all) faithfully recreated in virtual reality. If you ever wanted to become the Last Dragonborn and shout your way to glory, Skyrim VR could be the perfect way to do just that.

  • Resident Evil 7 and Skyrim prove that PlayStation VR is a viable platform and that full-sized games belong on it. If you can look past the bugs (and let’s face it: if you’re a Skyrim fan, you can), then this feels like the definitive way to experience Skyrim.

Because of its diminished graphics and clumsy combat controls, Skyrim VR definitely isn’t the best way to actually play Skyrim. However, if you leave the difficulty on the default lowest setting and roam the world as a god who can slay enemies with the flick of the wrist, it’s a good way to experience Bethesda’s legendary RPG from a whole new perspective.

  • After playing, I can't wait for the next few generations of virtual reality headsets to eliminate some of the issues that are holding games like this back. Maybe one day we'll play an Elder Scrolls game that's built for VR natively, but for now, Skyrim VR is the next best thing.

About the game

The Empire of Tamriel is on the edge. The High King of Skyrim has been murdered. Alliances form as claims to the throne are made. In the midst of this conflict, a far more dangerous, ancient evil is awakened. Dragons, long lost to the passages of the Elder Scrolls, have returned to Tamriel. The future of Skyrim, even the Empire itself, hangs in the balance as they wait for the prophesized Dragonborn to come; a hero born with the power of The Voice, and the only one who can stand amongst the dragons.
