- It’s the epitome of a game with few glaring issues but similarly no high points to prop it up. If, for whatever reason, you’re starved for top-down action games, it’s worth looking into. For the rest of us, it’s very much a “been there, done that” affair.
Mike Takahashi · Aug 19, 2019 Reviewed on XB1 - Nothing from the weird upgrade change to the technical glitches stops Redeemer from being enjoyable. It’s a solid brawler that hits hard and delivers a fun action movie good time for a few hours. However, that admittedly standard gameplay doesn’t make up for all the problems, and nothing from this equation makes it worth a $30 asking price. If you have a PC, you might just want to dig out the $15 original and enjoy Vasily’s full arsenal of deadly movies for the entire campaign.
Alex Santa Maria · Jul 27, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - There’s no doubt about it – Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is indeed an improvement over the original game. It is still ultimately a victim to repetition though. As good as the new levelling and perk system is, it’s not transformative; it just keeps the tedium at bay for an extra handful of levels. But if you want to play a game that’s combat heavy, where you can quickly kill enemies with your fists before switching to a firearm in the blink of an eye, it’s well worth checking out.
Richard Seagrave · Jul 19, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Redeemer is a deeply flawed game that manages to provide moments of fun but too often feels frustrating and under-developed.
Nathan Gibson · Jul 19, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Redeemer: Enhanced Edition, although not quite as robust as its contemporaries, is one hell of a bloody good game. Everything from its progression, its pacing, and its core functionality, right through to its combat diversity and its play depth, remains constantly gratifying and energetic throughout. Despite some issues with its performance and its insipid level design, fans of the brawler concept will absolutely love what’s on offer here.
Mark Sherwood · Jul 19, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - I'd love to be able to recommended Redeemer: Enhanced Edition to you. Its top-down shoot and beat 'em up combat is tremendous fun, and the local drop-in and out co-op mode is treat, but there's way too many game breaking bugs and glitches that hold up any recommendation. If these issues are fixed with a patch then feel free to add a few points to the score, otherwise you're best off looking for your gory thrills and spills elsewhere.
Adrian Burrows · Aug 30, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is something of a misnomer. Yes, it’s the same two-year-old top-down brawler/twin-stick shooter, but there’s very little that’s been enhanced here. Local co-op is technically a new feature for the game but considering its woeful performance on Switch that’s not much of an addition. There’s an attempt to divide skills between two different paths, but with such a barebones approach to stealth, you’ll often just run in, pull limbs off and start dealing death loudly.
Dom Reseigh-Lincoln · Aug 04, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Redeemer's combat is world class; revealing itself to be both hugely satisfying and wonderfully tactile. It's just a shame that there isn't enough game built around it and that the game which is there, appears so very unambitious. Nonetheless, Redeemer is more than capable of providing a barrage of violent thrills for a good few hours all the same.
