10. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

With the Metroidvania love at an all-time high, Koji Igarashi chose one of the best moments to return to the iconic world of gothic action. With his iron grit and a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, the ritual was completed and we get perhaps one of the most faithful additions to the Castlevania lore we’ll ever get.

Igarashi was one of the main people responsible for the success of the cult classic Symphony of the Night and the Castlevania titles that followed. In this spiritual successor, he brings all that energy back, and more.

With its story of an orphan making her way through the floors of a castle to lift an alchemist’s curse, Bloodstained boasts fantastic level designs, tactile controls, and even the silliness that we all associate with the Castlevania series.

While its greatest strength has always been its similarity to its predecessor, this could also be its weakness. It’s a recreation, but like PC Gamer says, it might be a bit too old fashioned.

With its high scores from gamers though, maybe it’s exactly what it needs to be. It has a playscore of 8.84

9. A Short Hike

In a world obsessed with fast-paced action and punishing difficulty, A Short Hike is the videogame equivalent of a breath of fresh air. It’s a singleplayer indie adventure that puts you in the shoes of bird person, Claire, who ventures to Hawk Peak in search of a cellphone signal.

Aside from its incredibly relatable plot, A Short Hike’s journey to the top is also sprinkled with all things bright and beautiful. It’s literally just a walk in the park. Sometimes you meet new characters and have natural yet dorky conversations, Or you can glide around and go on collection sidequests around its lush pixel environments. It's this combination of relaxing atmosphere and genuine interactions that make up the bulk of what makes A Short Hike awesome.

The game does struggle a bit with endings. Destructoid gave it a 7.5, saying that while its two-hour storyline doesn’t give it a chance to grow stale, “the final moments suffer from a lack of setup and character development.”

But, if it’s a bite-sized vacation you want, A Short Hike is more than willing to serve. Created by a developer burned out from another project, Thumbsticks has this to say: “It’s fitting, then, that what began as an act of self-care...has blossomed into a welcome respite from the modern world.”

It has a playscore of 8.85

8. AMID EVIL

Everybody knows nostalgia is one of the easiest ways to make a videogame hit. But, if you pair that with fresh and original ideas, that's when you've hit the jackpot. For our 8th spot, we get a game that might be awfully familiar to long-time fans of the Doom series. However, it's most similar to the classic fantasy FPS titles like Heretic and Hexen.

Indefatigable's Amid Evil offers frenetic FPS action in the style of the old MSDOS days. Except, with a much bigger scale than the games of old. The game spreads across 7 distinct worlds, all jampacked with monsters and mystical weapons.

On the other hand, it's definitely not the first to explore the retro shooter formula. Dusk, a retro-style shooter from the same publisher, earned high praise just the year before. Thankfully, for AMID EVIL, it makes itself worthy of the same acclaim. This is exactly Destructoid's view.

"I'm not as over the moon as I was with DUSK, but that's like saying you didn't enjoy driving the Camaro as much as the Corvette." they said.

Game Revolution expounds on the point in their review, saying "Even if you’ve already tired yourself out on retro shooters, Amid Evil deserves your attention as a well-crafted and unique entry in the genre."

The verdict is out. Despite the many competitors in the market, AMID EVIL is just as deserving of its spot on the list, with a total playscore of 8.93

7. Devil May Cry 5

It took 11 years of waiting but it looks like CAPCOM finally figured what to do with their iconic hack and slash series. After the slightly polarizing results of Ninja Theory's DmC reboot, which changed too many things for comfort, this fifth main installment seems to have nailed the balance.

It brings back the two favorite demon slayers, Nero--with his new robot appendage--and Dante, with his grey hair. But, DMC5 also brought a new character in V, whose demon companions give an added edge to the entry. As a series built on making demon-slaying as stylish as ever, Devil May Cry 5 is definitely equipped with next-level visuals.

However, for most reviewers, what really sets it apart is its combat. IGN SEA gave it a score of 9.5, praising the depth, variety, and freedom that the three main characters provide. PC Gamer similarly praised the game for its "greater variety of combat styles and a higher degree of challenge."

Aside from combat, its renewed focus on story and characters also makes it a standout in a series that's mostly been praised for its straightforward action.

All in all, Devil May Cry 5 is a return to everything we loved about the series and more, and it has a playscore of 8.98

6. SEKIRO: Shadows Die Twice

FromSoftware has built a reputation for punishing, genre-defining action RPGs. But, in their latest IP, they switch things up just a little to create something that's hauntingly familiar yet beautifully fresh in its own way.

Putting you in the shoes of a samurai with the useful ability to come back from the dead, SEKIRO is more of a focused action-adventure compared to FromSoftware's traditional RPGs. Without builds and multiplayer distractions, Cheatcc calls it "a game that asks you to succeed on your own and creates an intimate, engaging experience as a result."

But, while its story, settings, and characters were welcome additions to the formula, SEKIRO’s greatest strength is ultimately its enhancements on the studio's signature punishing combat. It adds stealth, verticality, and open level designs into the mix. This means that fights are as complex and grueling as ever but there's a lot more to play within how to approach them.

As heavy.com notes in their review: "The greater focus on dynamic, nuanced fights greatly improves over Dark Souls’ hack and slash methodology."

While there may have had some hiccups at launch, SEKIRO's recent reviews, especially on Steam, have been overwhelmingly positive since.

It has a playscore of 8.98

5. Katana ZERO

Speaking of Japanese combat settings, Askiisoft brings Devolver Digital another impressive win with their flashy take on cyberpunk action platforming. At first blush, it has all the markings of a Devolver title. Just like Hotline Miami, it's got that lush retro aesthetic, colorful visuals, and fast-paced difficulty.

When every hit results in instant death though, the premise anchors on perfection. That's when the rewind button comes in handy, letting you plan out your movements for each interaction and culminating into a surgical but satisfyingly smooth combat experience.

But, Katana ZERO didn't earn its spot for action alone. There's a complicated narrative underpinning it, too. It tells the tale of a sword for hire and it does so with a timed dialog that lets players project their personalities into the story.

As Shacknews puts it: "Katana Zero dares to go bolder, with a story that takes more than one left turn, and an innovative dialogue system that can paint both the story and the main character in a different light."

And, if like most critics, you’re worried about its short run time and lack of replayability, Game Reactor offers some reassurance: "Katana Zero is a short experience with very little replay value...but it's also, without a doubt, one of the best low-profile games we've played."

It receives a playscore of 9.01

4. Baba Is You

Indie games might mean low-budget but what they lack in production value, they make up for with boundless creativity. And that’s kind of what Hempuli Oy offers in their endlessly charming puzzle game.

In their world, the only rule is that there aren’t any rules at all. As you push letters and blocks around their pixel-based environment, you get to be the sole decider of how the world around you works. For Game Reactor: “It's not about shifting the pieces in the game but changing how the game itself operates.”

When there’s so much freedom involved, it widens your scope of imagination and forces you to think outside the box. It only gets harder, as words and conditions continue to pile on. It’s challenging, but it’s the kind of challenge that puzzle fans will love--the kind that leaves you thinking even long after you’ve put it down.

Baba Is You doesn’t just continually redefine itself, it’s irreverence to rules manages to redefine the genre too. MeriStation describes it beautifully, calling it an “orderly anarchy” that “demonstrates the magic of words.”

A puzzle that will leave you suitably baffled, it has a playscore of 9.02

3. Slay the Spire

Released early in January of this year, Mega Crit's debut title has continued to slay the charts throughout the rest of 2019. Now, it finds itself at home among the top ranks as one of the most innovative card games of the year.

Slay the Spire offers turn-based strategy, cardgame mechanics, and roguelike gameplay all rolled into one. It's not just the unlikely mixture that gives the game its flair, it's how well the three combine into an exhilarating cardgame that's relatively low-cost. Unlike other deck-building titles, it's a level playing field where you choose from three characters, each with unique basic decks which you build up along your journey.

For IGN, its formula "encourages experimentation, gives you time to make mistakes, and will challenge you immensely."

As a roguelike game, death is an integral factor but it also means it has replayability in droves. Slaying the titular spire only takes about an hour, but its balance of chance encounters and tactical depth will keep you coming back for more.

At its earliest stage, it’s been called “the first great surprise of 2019. ” But with a new playable character in the works, it shows that the game will only get better with time.

It has a playscore of 9.13

2. Resident Evil 2

Though Bloodstained may have been the picture of an all too faithful spiritual successor, CAPCOM shows them off in their biggest hit this year, creating 2019’s poster boy for a remake done right.

In their effort to bring 1998’s Resident Evil 2 to the modern generation, CAPCOM didn’t just build it from the ground up--with new textures for Claire and Leon, and a more immersive over the shoulder perspective--they turned it into a modern horror game in its own right.

In line with the challenges presented by the big visual changes, CAPCOM had to explore other ways to deliver the series’ signature scares. But, in doing so, they created a whole new experience that’s packed with content and provided new insight to Claire and Leon’s adventures in Raccoon City.

As IGN puts it: “Capcom did a fantastic job of resurrecting all the best parts of the classic Resident Evil 2 and making them look, sound, and play like a 2019 game.”

Released in January, Resident Evil 2 bookends the year with a chart-topping finish and it rightly deserves its spot--here and in the halls of modern horror fame.

It has a playscore of 9.15

1. Disco Elysium

For a game that's only been out for two months, ZA/UM's Disco Elysium snuck its way to the top being called one of the most groundbreaking RPGs yet. RPGs are known for their emergent quality, customizations, and unique interactions with an unfamiliar environment. And, that's exactly what Disco Elysium brings to the table.

It follows the footsteps of Larian Studios' Divinity series with its intricate role-playing mechanics. Instead of sprawling fantasy settings, we get a political tale of a detective fighting to solve a murder mystery and to survive the voices in his head.

Ultimately, though, you, the player, will get to tell the story yourself through the many choices on offer, making each lengthy run-through a different experience. As PC Gamer notes: "...my experience of it is completely unique to me, such is the dizzying variety of skills, stats, thoughts, and conversation options on offer."

Freedom of choice aside, its Disco Elysium's story that stands out the most. Only Single Player notes that its characters "explore highbrow themes such as existentialism, political theory, and psychology, all wrapped around a twin mystery of murder and identity."

If you want to be engrossed, intrigued, and awed by a gorgeous, painterly world that's not your own, Disco Elysium is the place to be. That's why it's our best PC title of 2019, with a playscore of 9.29

Next up, we're ranking the best games to come out this year where indie games and triple A's have a level playing field, the PC. These are the highest-rated PC games in 2019.

Top 10 PC Games of 2019 Games of the Year

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is on fire this year. Experience greatness with our full and up-to-date list of the Best PlayStation 4 Games of 2019.

10. Slay The Spire

We start off the list with an unconventional combination between two genres: Deckbuilding and Rogue-like.

CGs come and go, but Mega Crit Games’ Slay the Spire is among the many CGs that survived the trend. Mixing turn-based strategy, cards and rogue-like into one title, this ever-changing gauntlet tests your luck, deck-building skills and a bit of your 200IQ plays. With each level randomly generated, make do with the limited cards you have at your disposal and fend off a horde of ghastly enemies with their own set of challenges.

It’s worth the asking price. Most of Slay The Spire’s praise comes from its amalgam of gameplay design. One of the critics, TheSixthAxis, gave it a 9 out of 10. They were impressed by the game's balance of multiple genres. Saying that, “... it takes the best parts of roguelites, dungeon crawlers, and card games, and mixes them together into an unholy, but absurdly enjoyable game.”

But like many games, it isn’t perfect. Most of its concern comes from its heavy reliance on RNG mechanics. But hey, it’s a card game and RNJesus isn’t always on your side. It receives a playscore of 8.84.

9. Kingdom Hearts III

Others still couldn’t believe Kingdom Hearts III finally came out this year. After a series of major delays and technical challenges, Kingdom Hearts III is finally out… and it ONLY took Square Enix a decade. This third installment isn’t just any other sequel, it serves as the series’ climactic point after years and years of build-up.

Sora and his band of Disney friends return to save the world from the faces of Darkness using the power of friendship. Travel to iconic Disney and Pixar worlds while fending off enemies using your magical Keyblade in its refined hack and slash combat.

There’s no denying the series suffers from a very convoluted story. What makes this game truly special though is its cast of characters. Fans of the series will finally get the emotional pay-off they’ve been waiting for.

Push Square is clearly aware of its flaws but was completely overwhelmed by its magic, saying “As an unforgettable experience, Kingdom Hearts III is exceptional, essential, and most of all, undeniably special.”

Despite everything, Kingdom Hearts III still has the heart and the charm that makes it a great follow-up to the magical franchise... and it’s only just begun with a major DLC coming soon. A playscore of 8.84

8. SEKIRO: Shadows Die Twice

It’s difficult not to love FromSoftware’s brutally punishing titles. Just when you thought you knew everything about Dark Souls’ combat, SEKIRO denies all of it. It twists the way these games were played. Instead of rolling out then attack, you are encouraged to PARRY swift sword strikes THEN attack. If you can’t master this, you’re most likely seeing this ANIMATION SCREEN every 3 minutes.

In this game, you are no longer wandering around Gothic landscapes and facing off against Eldritch horrors, you are a Shinobi in Sengoku Era Japan and your Sword is as important as your dodging skills. It will try your patience, yes. But once you get that satisfying coup de grace from that ONE boss that killed you a hundred times never gets old.

It was universally acclaimed. Critics lauded the game’s challenge and emotional story. One reviewer, IGN’s Brandin Tyrrel, stated that “Sekiro evolves From Software’s formula into a stylish stealth-action adventure that, naturally, emphasizes precision and skill in its combat.”

Git gud. It receives a playscore of 8.85

7. The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Of Cold Steel III

The Trails of Cold Steel series is a testament to the undying JRPG genre. It’s one of Falcom’s longest-running titles and it continues to bring more surprises in The Legend of Heroes’ vast and complicated universe.

This is the first entry made solely for the PlayStation 4. It’s set years after the previous installment and it takes you once again to its war-torn world. Like Persona, it’s not just all about taking out enemies in turn-based battles. Most of your 7 are spent exploring its Military version of Hogwarts and engaging in memorable social activities.

The game received generally favorable reviews. Most of its praise comes from its intriguing story arc and memorable cast of characters. ZTGD’s Jae Lee gave Cold Steel III a 9 out of 10. Stating that the game “... delivers on all fronts with improved visual fidelity, performance and a slew of meaningful new mechanics.”

Like most JRPGs, it’s a long journey that requires time and effort to fully realize the gist of it all, which is why other critics aren’t happy with it. And oh, there’s also a problem with its odd localization, which raises a few eyebrows from its Western players.

It’s a game built for its fans and it remains consistent with its overarching themes, gameplay, and world-building. You can’t fix something that’s not broken, and this is why Cold Steel III receives a playscore of 8.85

6. The Outer Worlds

Capitalism… in SPACE. Three words that sums up everything about Obsidian's brand new IP. The Outer Worlds is a breath of fresh air after a series of disappointing First Person Shooter RPGs.

Explore the Halcyon Systems where everything costs money from important life-saving medicines to downright fake windows. Anyone familiar with Fallout’s style can easily manage to make sense of what this game is all about. There are multiple ways to handle every situation, whether you want to go guns blazing or use your silver tongue to make things easier without the bloodbath. There’s a lot to do in the system. As Captain of a massive ship aptly named The Unreliable, form your ragtag crew of unique personalities and travel between its multiple planets.

GameSpot’s 9 out of 10 is proof that this game fills the void of good RPG shooters. They said that “The Outer Worlds is consistently compelling throughout, and it's a superb example of how to promote traditional RPG sensibilities in a sharp, modern experience.”

Overall, it isn’t really revolutionary. The story isn’t as memorable compared to New Vegas and Fallout similarities are still there, but if you love a good adventure with impactful choices, the Halcyon Systems await you. A playscore of 8.85

5. Death Stranding

Walking simulator, throwing poop grenades, Norman Reedus and his Funky Fetus. These are just a few of the words that you will hear when discussing about Hideo Kojima’s latest IP. A title three years in the making after his unfortunate departure from Konami. Reconnect a fractured post-apocalyptic America as a futuristic Delivery Man running away from ghosts with a baby strapped on your body.

Many critics adored its slow burn moments while others were completely annoyed by its wonky movement and sluggish gameplay loop. Amidst a barrage of unfavorable reviews, mainly due to its ‘gameplay’, it mostly received perfect scores from various media outlets because of the auteurs' fully-realized vision. It was heavily praised for its story, characters, themes, and even its multiplayer feature where you can help other players in its ‘social strand system'

There’s no doubt that this is perhaps the most divisive game of this year, but it sure doesn’t mean that it’s terrible. If you can get past the cracks and a few bumpy slopes, it’s one hell of an experience. A playscore of 8.99

4. Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night

The Metroidvania genre is just getting better and better each year. Castlevania veteran Koji Igarashi returns and breathes new life into the Bloodstained universe. Complete with new lore and characters, follow the cursed life of Miriam as she makes her way into an evil castle filled with paranormal entities.

Just like Symphony of the Night, your abilities prove useful with the game’s Metroidvania elements. With your demon powers, unleash a hellish blaze of power at your enemies. Even newfound abilities can be used as traversal elements to unlock new paths or find secrets, which gives exploration a deeper focus.

It was praised for its fine blend of old school platforming mechanics and stylish action. However, it somehow suffers from its lack of polish and other unwelcome bugs. Nonetheless, the critics, namely IGN, adored how “Bloodstained does show that Koji Igarashi’s particular brand of “Igavania” still has teeth.”

It has a playscore of 8.90

3. Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch Remastered

One of PlayStation 3’s colorful titles is finally making its grand revival to Sony’s latest console.

The first Ni No Kuni game signalled the return of good-looking RPGs. Now coming as a Remastered version of its 2013 original, the Wrath of the White Witch feels new, yet familiar. It’s living up to the standards of Level-5’s talent and with the help of Studio Ghibli’s animators, it’s a video game that feels like a painting that’s come to life.

Considering it’s just a Remaster, the story remains unchanged, but its graphical and performance upgrades now let you run it at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, the quality of the game is now on par with its sequel, Revenant Kingdom.

However, most of the game’s ‘remasterization’ doesn’t strike too well with players who are now accustomed to the visually great modern RPG titles. It receives the same praise from its original version, but it falls short with its unnecessary rework. A playscore of 8.92

2. Devil May Cry 5

It’s been 10 years since the last Devil May Cry game came out of existence. This fifth major entry to Dante and Nero’s demon-slaying quest was a long time coming and yes, DMC is back. Fans of the series know that the game’s main objective isn’t just about killing your enemies, it’s about how stylishly you can them down.

Return to the demon-whooping adventures of Dante and Nero alongside a mysterious new character named V. Each hero has its own unique abilities with varied skill ceilings. Flex those smokin’ sexy style combos in the most badass way possible with its new and improved combat system.

In this latest title, CAPCOM retains its signature ‘edgy’, ‘slick’, and ‘ridiculous’ motif that the series was known for. And these elements resulted in the entry’s universal praise. We Got This Covered’s David Morgan rated it with a 9 out of 10. Concluding with the statement that, “Devil May Cry 5 is more than a worthy sequel – it’s one of the best action games I’ve ever played.”

It’s good to see Dante and Nero again. It receives a jackpot playscore of 9.05

1. Resident Evil 2 Remake

CAPCOM is on a roll this year and this latest reiteration from the granddaddy of all survival-horror games is a step in the right direction. Return to the shoes of Claire and Leon as they go on a terrible first-day adventure in the mysterious town of Raccoon City.

Rebuilt from the ground up using CAPCOM’s powerful RE Engine, explore the god-forsaken town with painstaking detail. Its shift from a third-person perspective gives its terrifying atmosphere a more upfront tension. Nothing is more terrifying than being chased by a walking titan with a trench coat and a fedora.

Due to its mastercrafted rework, it received universal acclaim. Critics, including Game Informer, said: “Resident Evil 2 not only looks great, it plays well, and it forces you into a series of dark encounters that are a total rush.”

With RE3 rumored to be in development and more RE projects in the works, it looks like the franchise is far from ‘dead’ yet. It receives a playscore of 9.29

10. Apex Legends

The Battle Royale craze somehow went stale the moment Apex Legends dropped. This spin-off of Respawn’s award-winning <Titanfall series takes you to a futuristic battlefield with your team of three ‘skilled’ heroes.

Be the last team standing and put your skills and reflexes to the test in its fast-paced first-person, hero-shooting experience. Choose from its 11 unique Legends and use the massive map as your playground. Each Legend offers their own set of abilities, letting you turn the tide of every firefight.

GameSpot mentioned in their review that, “Apex Legends is a mix of smart shooter ideas that makes for a competitive, team-based game…”

It combines all the best parts of Titanfall while injecting it with Battle Royale’s frenetic moment to moment action. Its major gripes, however, is that it’s an EA title with a buttload of microtransactions. As a free game, it is expected, but knowing EA’s business model, it might be a bigger problem in the long run.

Nevertheless, Apex Legends excels as a good first person shooter and a battle royale with a playscore of 7.89

9. Paladins

The age of hero-shooters began when Blizzard’s Overwatch came out way back in 2016. From then on, the market continues to push the trend even further resulting to Hi-Rez making their own hero-shooter FPS, Paladins. It finally came out of Open Beta after 2 years.

Despite the oversaturated shooter genre, IGN gave it an 8.4, saying that, “Even after over 300 hours of exhilarating battles and strategic planning, champions continue to find a way to offer new gameplay experiences.”

At first, it had a lot of controversy due to it being an ‘Overwatch clone’ but over the years it gained its own identity with more heroes and diverse multiplayer modes.

On the surface, Paladins is a hero-shooter but within its layers lies a in-depth deckbuilding system where you customize your Champions’ abilities. You can choose what skills well-suited for your playstyle, providing a fun yet complex gameplay mix. It receives a playscore of 8.03

8. Sairento VR

VR still has a long way to go, but this mission-driven action role-playing game from Mixed Realms is a step in the right direction. In Sairento, assume control of a ruthless assassin trained by a cover organization. If SUPERHOT had a sequel, this could pass as one. Albeit without the time-bending abilities.

As a Virtual Reality title with first person shooter elements, showcase your gunplay and sword fighting abilities with its arsenal of futuristic weaponry using your supported VR controllers. Every engagement feels like walking on thin ice. Go guns blazing or use a variety of stealth mechanics to gain the upper hand and take enemies down one by one.

Its impressive visual design and atmosphere coincides with its already satisfying combat, paving a new way for the future of VR. It has a playscore of 8.07

7. Borderlands: Game Of The Year Edition

The third installment may be out, but nothing can top the previous two installments that made the series what it was. Gearbox’s ‘crazy’ interplanetary looter-shooter came with a few refinements to the experience, from navigation to inventory.

This Game of the Year Edition not only comes with gameplay upgrades, but these are all topped off with a big 4K finish that dusts off their nostalgic cel-shaded look and ushers us back into the rough Pandoran paradise.

It was hailed as one of the greatest shooters of all time. Gaming Bolt’s Ravi Sinha gave it an 8 out of 10, saying that “... it is more than a blast from the past - it's a compelling game in its own right.”

It receives a playscore of 8.08

6. Project Warlock

A retro first-person shooter about one man and his guns. An ode to B-Side shooters like Doom, Hexen, and Wolfenstein, Buckshot Software’s bullet-hell mayhem takes you through 60 levels of non-stop action. Your mission? Eradicate evil in a never-ending maze packed with bloodthirsty enemies determined to kill you every second.

It’s the ultimate throwback for fans of these classic retro-shooters. According to Destructoid, who gave it an 8 out of 10, “If your trigger finger is itching, buy Project Warlock to scratch that itch. You won’t be disappointed.”

And in this day and age, there’s no shortage of videogames backed by fans. It was initially a Kickstarter project and a passion-project. This title made its way to GOG as a timed exclusive and from then on, it became a major hit. It has a playscore of 8.13

5. Blood: Fresh Supply™

Speaking of classic shooters, Blood was part of the legion of clones of the classic B-Side shooters alongside Doom and Wolfenstein. This revival of the 90's cult-favorite remains dark, spooky, and edgy.

As a remastered version, it amps up the ante of the original as you battle through an army of sycophantic cultists, zombies, hellhounds, and other freaks of nature. The gameplay is similar to the aforementioned shooters, where you as a protagonist make your way through endless hallways battling out enemies and unlocking weapons.

Techraptor gave it an 8 out of 10. Praising the entirety of its rework. Saying that “Blood is a classic FPS game. Its level design, animation, movement, arsenal of weapons, and monsters are as delectable today as they were in 1997.”

Like the classics, this game is ‘bloody’ difficult, but it's what made these titles shine. It receives a playscore of 8.26

4. Overload

PC is a hotbed for all kinds of shooters. If there are Battle Royales like Apex Legends and B-Shooters like Project Warlock and Blood, there’s also 6 Degrees of Freedom-Shooters like this.

Dubbed as the ‘spiritual successor’ of the popular 90’s gem, Descent, this brand new game feels like a revival of the age-old title. Genres like this are unlike most of the shooters that came out in the 90s. It’s non-static and it enables you to move in any direction while you battle a horde of machines in its endless hallways.

It’s like a breath of fresh air amidst PC’s overbearing collection of first-person shooters. Game Reactor gave it an 8 out of 10. Impressed by the Developer, Revival Productions, for sticking true to its inspirations, saying that it’s “...done a decent job of marrying reverent design with a dash of much-needed modernity.”

It receives a playscore of 8.37

3. Ion Fury

Speaking of ‘spiritual successors’, let’s not forget about 2019’s version of Duke Nukem. As a ‘bomb disposal expert’, lead Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison in a quest to stop a sociopathic transhumanist cult leader.

IGN gave the game a score of 7.5 out of 10, saying it is an “...authentic throwback to Duke Nukem 3D that certainly hails to the king but can't quite dethrone him.”

Although there’s no denying the original is always better, what Ion Fury did was re-introducing this kind of genre to the modern audience. If you’re looking for an oddly specific title with pop-culture references from Terminator, Tron, and Duke Nukem itself, this game is for you. It receives a playscore of an 8.52

2. Metro Exodus

The latest of the Metro series continues to take you to the heart of post-apocalyptic Russia. In this third installment to the first-person survival-shooter from 4A Games, you are no longer limited to the confines of the underground Metro, travel around the irradiated Russia with your steam-powered train and find a new hope for the future of humanity.

Artyom remains as the protagonist and his quest to rebuild civilization is as difficult as ever. Games Radar’s Austin Wood gave it a 4.5 out of 5. Calling it as ‘’the best Metro game yet…’’

As an Epic Exclusive, the game was lauded for its immersive atmosphere and detailed environments. It is a huge leap to the ‘semi-open world’ element makes it a potential Fallout killer. A playscore of 8.58

1. DUSK

We go back once again to the age of 90’s shooters. David Szymanski retro-FPS easily dethrones the rest of these titles. DUSK borrows elements from iconic contemporary 3D shooters and refines the age-old genre with their own style and form. Set in a ‘Lovecraftian’ world where you fend off an army of backwater cultists and demons, discover what lurks beneath the Earth.

PC Gamer praised the level design of Dusk, stating that the game "is both an ode to and evolution of the greatest era of FPS level design." on which they gave it an 8.90 out of 10. Not only does this game offer a fantastic single-player experience, but its multiplayer mode is also akin to Quake. Although it’s not its best feature, it remains a fun addition for fans looking for some replay value.

It’s the ideal PC first-person shooter that doesn’t just pay homage to the retro-FPS days but stands on its own as a fantastic modern classic. A playscore of 9.13

Keep your eyes on the target! Here's a list of the best first person shooters on the PC from 2018 to 2019. These are the highest rated FPS titles on the PC.

Top 10 PC FPS Games of 2018-2019

Next-generation titles are trying to push the boundaries of gaming with their insane visuals, great story, and fantastic freedom of gameplay. Check out our list of upcoming open-world games to stay updated.

1. Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One

No surprise here. CD Projekt Red’s most anticipated open-world RPG is months away from now. As V, customize your character from their gender, stats and class as you enter into a cyberpunk future where megacorporations are at its most powerful and Keanu Reeves is your partner in crime.

Shifting away from its intended third-person mechanics, 2077 is a first-person shooter with an emphasis on stealth and reflexes. Like its previous opus, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, player freedom is encouraged and rewarded in this futuristic playground. Take on quests with branching paths that could potentially change the course of your gameplay and ending.

2077 boasts a stellar world to explore with insane verticality, letting you get inside buildings with ease in its populated semi-dystopian areas. We’ll see where this damned future will take us once it comes out this April 16, 2020 on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

2. Dying Light 2 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Techland’s open-world zombie game is packing some huge upgrades in this sequel. After taking their time adding enough content in the original, it’s about time they move on to this brand new adventure.

It’s been 15 years since humanity lost to the virus, play as a young survivor who adapted to the infection. Use his newfound abilities to take advantage of the massive horde of undead. In this upcoming fresh title, emphasis on parkour is still important. Traversal remains satisfying as you jump, slide, and run from one place to another. In addition, its first person gameplay is more refined and brutal, unlike the original.

In this sequel, not only you will be pitted against an even dangerous world, your choices will matter. Make decisions or sacrifices that will impact the game’s story. It’s coming this Spring 2020 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and XBox One.

3. Watch Dogs: Legion on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One

The future is also grim in Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world title. Acting as a commentary on modern-day politics, this upcoming sequel breaks boundaries by telling a story where every single person can take part in the burgeoning revolution.

There is no ‘one’ playable character here. Each member of the Legion is equipped with their own traits and skill sets--whether its an ex spy, a retired boxer, or grandma as a retired-assassin. The perma-death aspect of your recruits also adds another layer of interest, as it might challenge you to take on a more careful, non-lethal approach to espionage.

It all sounds great on paper but we're yet to see how it all unfolds. Unfortunately, all of Ubisoft's biggest titles will be facing delays so we might have to wait till the second half of 2020 before we can hack the planet.

4. Gods & Monsters on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One

Imagine the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but set in a fictional Ancient Greece. This is what Gods & Monsters is all about. It goes without saying that this was created by the same team that made Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic Ancient Greece where the entire pantheon of the gods was eliminated by the destructive Titan, Typhon.

We didn't really get to know too much about it in their trailer. All we saw was a brave young boy trying to act cool and all. What we do know is that it’s an open-world game where you traverse huge plains and slay monsters. We’ll find out more about this once it comes out sometime this 2020.

5. Elden Ring on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Ohhh, Elden Ring. FromSoftware’s upcoming IP is no longer about ancient Japan and eerie Gothic settings. Game of Thrones’ writer George R R Martin teams up with FromSoftware to recreate Dark Souls storytelling and gameplay with the characteristics of Martin’s Dark Fantasy genre.

According to reports, Elden Ring will let you play a customizable character with no defined personality. It's up to players to flesh out their history as well as the world's. It’s gonna be FromSoftware’s biggest title yet.

There’s still no news about its open-world element, but if we were to speculate, it might follow their previous title’s interconnected maps. As it’s still in its early development stage, no release date has been announced.

6. Ghost Of Tsushima

Sony’s mysterious single-player exclusive is still in development, alright. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world adventure that put us into the shoes of the Last Samurai desperately fighting against the Mongol invasion in the year 1274.

During its reveal presentation, the game’s atmosphere and combat is interesting enough. As a Samurai, your Katana is an extension of yourself and it is satisfying. You can even use a grappling hook and travel from place to place with ease. Its focus on stealth is reminiscent of the good ol’ days of Tenchu.

The game is still in development but ever since its E3 2018 gameplay trailer, the hype becomes increasingly huge but sadly we don’t know much about the game as of yet. Let’s hope for a 2020 release.

7. The Elder Scrolls VI on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Ah, Bethesda. They may have suffered enough PR blunder recently but there’s no denying its next major Elder Scrolls title is most anticipated. Let's hope they learn their lessons and have the awareness to listen to player feedback. Sadly, there’s nothing to talk about this game as of the moment since we only had a ‘title reveal’ last year. Todd Howard, please, don’t mess this game up.

The only thing we know so far is that the popular Skyrim Grandma makes a cameo appearance as an NPC. As for release date, we might need to wait a bit more since the game is reportedly coming out after its sci-fi epic, Starfield.

8. Starfield on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Before we get our hands on that elusive Elder Scrolls VI, Bethesda’s most-anticipated sci-fi open-world RPG, Starfield, is coming out first. Rumor has it it’s coming out for Microsoft’s upcoming Project Scarlett and PlayStation 5.

The game is still in development so we have no idea what’s it all about. Some say it takes the open-world freedom of Skyrim but it’s set in Space. It could be a potential game changer if Bethesda doesn’t alienate their fanbase before its release.

All we could do right now is to speculate about its story and gameplay. Well, if you’re itching to play a space-opera game like Fallout, try The Outer Worlds for now. ;)

9. The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Untitled Sequel)

The original Breath of the Wild was a masterpiece, racking up numerous Game of the Year awards and being hailed as one of the greatest open-world games of all time. It’s no surprise they’re trying to make another one with the same caliber like most of their Nintendo titles.

After releasing a cryptic trailer at E3 2019, Nintendo continues to push the lengths of the Switch and the Zelda franchise into greater heights. No one knows about its gameplay or story yet, but it's reveal trailer poses some lingering questions about Ganon and the future of Hyrule.

10. Beyond Good & Evil 2 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

This cult classic from 9 years ago makes a return. Set in a universe of anthropomorphic animals and ragtag space piracy, Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be a prequel to the 2003 original. Become one of the leading space pirates and go on a quest to find a fellow space pirate in search of a sacred relic.

The game is a balance of land and air combat. As a Space Pirate, explore planets by going solo, or with a friend in its co-op mode with its third-person adventure, OR you could Fly around the galaxy using your spaceship or use your jetpack to take out aerial enemies.

Ultimately, your goal is to become the best space pirate in the galaxy. However, you might have to wait a bit longer for that elusive release date.

We're counting down the most anticipated open-world games coming for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Switch next year. These are the top open-world titles to watch out for in 2020.

This Nintendo 64 title is pretty much like any other Doom game: you fight hordes of Demons and survive Hell using your arsenal of weapons.

During its time, it was hailed as one of the greatest games ever made. Before the reboots game, this was the best version of Doom and this re-release will open doors for new and old fans. Think of it as a gateway back to the good ol’ days before you get your hands on Doom Eternal. It comes out this 30th of March.

It’s hard not to include Cyberpunk 2077 when talking about upcoming PlayStation 4 titles. CD Projekt Red’s Witcher 3 was a godsend and it’s about time they experiment with the first-person genre.

Adding with it their knack for great RPG design, this latest IP takes you into a vast open-world full of futuristic madness. Choices matter and customizations are almost limitless, giving more freedom to player decisions from the beginning to the end.
In this sequel, not only you will be pitted against an even dangerous world, your choices will matter. Make decisions or sacrifices that will impact the game’s story. It’s slated for a 2020 release.

11. Wasteland 3

The icy hell of post-apocalyptic Colorado isn’t as friendly as it was before in this much-awaited installment to the Wasteland series. We’ve come a long way from its 1988 release. As a fan-funded project, it’s never easy. The party-based RPG from InXile Entertainment is stepping up their game with asynchronous multiplayer, solid single-player experience and strategic turn-based gameplay.

12. Outriders

It’s rare to see Square Enix make a first-person shooter game instead of their usual JRPG formula. Outriders is a 1 to 3 player, drop-in-drop-out co-op shooter set in an original dark and desperate sci-fi universe.

Not much details are known so far, but it is presented with so much gravitas by its creators. It offers a wealth of experience for the shooter genre and we can’t wait to find out more about this title when it comes out sometime this 2020.

13. System Shock

This Kickstarter remake of the 1994 space station thriller has been announced as far back as 2015. In the 3 years of development, the developers have gone through some creative conundrums that led them to stray from their original vision.

After a brief hiatus, Night Dive Studios concluded that they want to go back to developing the game that they promised fans, which is awesome. The plan now is to keep it as close to the original as possible so new gamers can have a taste of this classic game and old players can have a bit of a nostalgic moment.

It’s expected to be released in early 2020.

Thanks to the efforts of Kickstarter fans and Double Fine Productions themselves, our dreams might finally come true.

A much-awaited sequel, Psychonauts 2 will be following up the story of the 2005 original. The iconic Raz returns and he’s taking up the helm once more as he notices something dangerous is afoot.

From what we’re seeing so far, it looks like its gonna be another weird and delightful adventure. Coming sometime this 2020.

15. Tales Of Arise

Bandai Namco’s latest Tales game veers away from the shared universe of the previous titles. For the first time in a long time, Arise takes you into a whole new world torn apart by ideologies.

Still embracing that fantasy charm, play as two characters with the same goal of uniting their divided world. This latest Tales title offers a fresh cast of characters that are as memorable as any other Tales games out there. Its improvement of the Linear Motion Battle System is also something to look forward to. It’s set to release sometime in 2020

It features new characters and a new protagonist far from the likes of Kazuma Kiryu. The gameplay is also shifting to the classic turn-based combat aside from the real-time brawler which is a huge surprise. So far, there’s not many details as of the moment. Coming sometime this 2020.

17. Watch Dogs: Legion

After suffering from a major delay, we might have to wait a little while longer before we get our hands on Legion. Ubisoft is definitely pulling out all the stops as they expand on the idea of open-world by eliminating all NPCs.

That's because Watch Dogs Legion lets players take on absolutely anyone who chooses to take part in the rising revolution. Anyone can hack the planet, even a grandma! It's full of technological innovations and it promises variety in terms of experience and gameplay. It’s coming sometime this 2020.

22. Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers

This collaborative effort between Koei Tecmo and ATLUS is a Musou title and it’s far from the usual Persona 5 hijinks we once knew. This ‘canonical’ hack and slash adventure takes place years after the events of Persona 5 and it takes us once again to the shoes of Joker and the gang.

Reforming society takes more than just stealing hearts. This action game features real-time combat with satisfying animations and a sick new soundtrack for the longtime fans. It comes out sometime this 2020.

23. Persona 5 The Royal

Two Persona 5 games in a row is a blessing for PlayStation 4 users. This is the ‘definitive’ edition of the Persona 5 experience. Royal enhances the way Persona 5 feels, bringing a fresh dose of content including a new character, a new dungeon and some added story that answers some of the game’s lingering questions.

Royal isn’t a completely new game. The main story remains untouched and combat has some fancy tweaks, especially for their stealth sections. All in all, it’s just Persona 5, but better. It’s coming out sometime this 2020.

24. Elden Ring

Oh, Elden Ring. George RR Martin and FromSoftware team up to create this dark fantasy with Nordic elements.

We’ve only had one trailer so far, so there’s not much info. According to reports, Elden Ring will let you play a customizable character with no defined personality. It's up to players to flesh out their history as well as the world. It's gonna be one of FromSoftware's biggest games yet. Probably very early on in its development, there's no release date yet.

25. Ghost Of Tsushima

This upcoming PS4 exclusive from Sucker Punch was a scene-stealer in E3 so it's hard to forget it in the list of the best titles to come to the console. Ghost of Tsushima puts us in the sandals of the titular island's Last Samurai, desperately fighting against the Mongol invasion in the year 1274.

The atmosphere of its trailer was the most captivating part of the presentation, but its detail and combat also speak volumes about the game's quality. We don't know much about the game as of yet, and its release in 2020 might be a stretch of the imagination, we can't help but look forward to it anyway.

2. Ori And The Will Of The Wisps

Microsoft hit the jackpot with Ori's Metroidvania adventures and now we're getting part two to a storyline that has successfully tugged at our heartstrings once before. In Moon Game's Will of the Wisps, we'll get to see Ori venturing out from their original magical forest to forge adventures in the world beyond.

From what we've seen from all their E3 presentations, it still feels like the same majestic, challenging, and tear-jerking platformer. Now, with more nimble movements and a host of new enemies, all of which we’ll see on February 11, 2020.

3. Doom Eternal

It's a shame that it was delayed from its November release date, but now we got more from id Software to look forward to in 2020. Spreading out of the realms of hell, the iconic Demon slayer is broadening his horizons. Not only is he is bringing the fight to the equally garish monsters of the pearly gates, but he's also going for a lot of new mobility at his disposal.

That, plus a multiplayer Invasions mode where you get to play the Demons themselves. With that much in store, the new March 20th release date might just be worth it

4. Watch Dogs: Legion

Ubisoft is bringing new technology to the burgeoning revolution of their latest Watch Dogs installment. Legion doesn't fly too far in the future, but it's breaking boundaries by telling a story where every single person in the world can be utilized in inciting the uprising.

But there's also permadeath, which challenges you to take on more careful approaches to preserve special skills and characters. A new take on espionage, we'll see how it all unfolds when it comes out in the second half of 2020.

6. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

The moment we've been waiting ten years for.

Their recent March 2020 announcement isn't going to be a full release just yet, but with so much invested in the coming of this medieval playground, we'll take anything. We know about their campaigns, factions, siege defenses, and putting our hands on it may either be wonder or disappointment.

Bannerlord when? We don't know officially, but the Early Access is one we’ll be itching to witness.

7. Cyberpunk 2077

Since CD Projekt Red has been breaking boundaries with their Witcher series, it's not a stretch to think they'll be doing the same with their latest IP.

They're showing us a new side of a cyberpunk dystopia in broad daylight, and it's one that feels populated, lived-in and so alive. Immersing us further with a first-person perspective, the choices are still all ours to make.

It's coming out April 16th.

8. Marvel's Avengers

MARVEL’s Avengers isn't gonna be the Cinematic Universe we've to come to love. But, it'll show us a different side of the comic books, with an original story that focuses on a completely new set of characters led by Kamala Khan, better known as Ms. Marvel.

Set years after the death of Captain America, The Avengers may be in a fallout, its gameplay still suggests a strong emphasis on co-op gameplay. Crystal Dynamics is hoping to redefine and to shake up the superhero genre, and we'll see how they do when it comes out on May 15th.

9. Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood

Another videogame is coming out of the world that White Wolf Publishing established. Werewolf games are scarce and now we finally get to take part in half-man, half-wolf action. As monsters with a deep connection with nature, Cyanide's Earthblood shows exactly that as it puts you in the shoes of a banished Werewolf fighting a Vampire-led corporation and the pestilence they bring.

We haven't seen much in the way of gameplay, but we're all expecting it to come to the level of Vampire: The Masquerade in terms of choice and narrative. It's coming out sometime in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2020.

10. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Quarantine

With an early 2020 release window, we're expecting to hear more soon.

11. Dying Light 2

Although the first Dying Light game may have had earned success despite its narrative simplicity, Dying Light 2 will focus on giving players the definitive sandbox experience they wanted to bring in the first game.

Much more than ever, player choices will form a large part of the gameplay. Building on a brand new engine, The City in Dying Light 2, isn't just four times bigger, it will also react to whatever decisions you make along the way.

It comes out next Spring.

12. Death Stranding

Kojima's latest befuddling masterpiece has already released on the PlayStation 4, but it will be a while before it reaches PC shores. Sony has given Kojima the blank check for this game and it's resulted in one of the most intriguing games yet.

People's feelings for this bold step of a videogame is a little polarizing, but with an undetermined 2020 release window, PC master race will have to wait their turn.

13. Halo Infinite

Microsoft is pulling all the stops and rolling out the red carpet for the return of Master Chief. While it was first announced in E3 2018, we finally got a lengthier dose of the title in E3 2019 with a 5-minute cinematic.

As far gameplay is concerned though, there's none of that so far. The only thing we know for sure is that it's NOT gonna have a Battle Royale mode and it’s gonna have Master Chief in center stage.

It's currently slated for a Holiday 2020 release window, and details about their beta-testing periods will hopefully come through soon.

14. Ready or Not

Everyone's been looking out for the eventual return of the SWAT series. VOID Interactive takes the reins from Irrational Games with this new tactical first-person shooter that everyone's been calling SWAT 5.

There won't be too much of mindless shooting in Ready or Not. Its stages require a bit of puzzle-solving and knowledge of tactics and procedures. With so many ways of facing one dangerous criminal situation, you will get to decide exactly how you’ll engage. It's this kind of freedom that everybody's been missing.

With a late fourth quarter of 2020 release window, we still have a long wait to go.

15. The Settlers

A lot of strategy classics are rising back up again, and this is one of them. Despite the years that have passed since their last main installment, the 2020 Settlers title is in good hands as it is still in the hands of their original studio Blue Byte.

With the goal of creating a familiar Settlers title while being up to par with today's standards, it's gonna be a nostalgic treat for long-time fans. Build, explore, and conquer anew once it releases sometime next year.

16. Microsoft Flight Simulator

While we're on the subject of returns, Flight Simulator was the throwaway reveal in Microsoft's E3 presentation but it was anything but forgettable. A game that has its beginnings in the 70s, Flight Simulator makes a landing in the new generation with a hangar-full of new features and improvements.

For a game that needs realism to work, Microsoft gave this their signature superstar treatment, cranking the environments, scale, and physics to eleven. With 4K support to boot, this gonna be one breathtaking simulation to beat and it's coming out in 2020.

17. Crusader Kings III

With their second installment earning a spot on our list of Top 25 Best PC Strategy Games, we can't deny the hype for their coming third installment. In Paradox's Crusader Kings III, we get to witness even more of their signature medieval grand strategy, but with a bit more focus on RPG and the characters you build.

Their UI will get some changes as developers aim to create a more user-friendly and approachable experience. This 2020, there's gonna be a lot of dynasties to create and...babies to murder?

18. Gods & Monsters

Ubisoft made an impression with their exploration of Ancient Greece in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, but its developers wanted to create something that was more in line with the Mythology.

This time, instead of gritty realism, we're getting what seems to be wondrous Breath of the Wild-like aesthetic. With just a trailer so far, it's hard to imagine what else lies in store for us here.

It's coming out sometime in 2020.

19. Knights of Honor II: Sovereign

Chivalry isn't quite dead yet.

Crusader Kings may have been conquering medieval grand strategies for a while now. But, THQ Nordic conspires to take back the throne by helping resurrect a series that's laid dormant for 15 years. Back in the hands of Black Sea Games, Knights of Honor II will have the familiar decision-making of Paradox Interactive Games.

Sure, it sports vibrant new maps. But KOH 2's strategies also promise to be more accessible, letting you decide to whether to leave it all in the hands of your troops and jump straight into battle.

It's set to release sometime in 2020.

20. Humankind

SEGA's also taking a shot at the 4X strategy. Developed by the same minds as the impressive 4X fantasy strategy, Endless Legend, Amplitude Studios is taking on Human History.

Instead of just sticking to one civilization, like the popular Civ series, Humankind will allow us to go through six different eras from the pages of our own history. It might just be Amplitude's magnum opus, as it brings to fore all the things that made Endless Legend great while showing off an array of innovative features.

It's coming out sometime in 2020.

21. Total War Saga: Troy

Rage—Goddess, sing the rage of Peleus' son Achilles.

The veterans of the strategy genre, Creative Assembly are taking a turn for the mythical. With Total War Saga, the series explores the events of the Trojan War through the arguably blind eyes of the great poet Homer. So far we've seen some of the features of their campaign, and also the legendary faceoff of Achilles and Hector.

Announced very recently, we're waiting to see more before its 2020 release.

22. Witchfire

The Astronauts are set to add another feather to their cap with this brand new game. Having already made Painkiller, Bulletstorm, and more recently The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Witchfire, a gothic shooter, will be different but--if their old games are any indication--awesome.

From what we've seen so far, it's a detailed look at 15th century Europe, with a world of shooting magical creatures ahead of us. No release window yet but it's coming out sometime in 2020.

23. World Of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Another one from this year's Blizzcon, the World of Warcraft--one of their most enduring IPs--is getting a brand new expansion. Shadowland’s story takes us to the supposed end of it all, with an epic cinematic that shows the destruction of the legendary Helm of Domination.

Its greatest asset is perhaps its linear quality which gives players a narrative end in the Maw, and a Covenant. Explore the five new zones, raid new dungeons, and ascend the tower of the damned.

It's coming out in 2020

24. Diablo IV

This year's BlizzCon was tinged with the controversy around the Hong Kong bans, and perhaps this announcement came at just the right moment. Yes, we're getting a fourth installment to their long-running Diablo series. And, we got more than a little snippet. We have one 9-minute cinematic featuring the blessed mother, Lilith, and also a 24-minute look at the brutal barbarian.

It doesn't look too much of a jump from Diablo III, but with more time in the oven--and an unclear release window--it might just outlast today's trepidation.

25. Overwatch 2

Overwatch is getting more than a few changes. A sequel that's not exactly a sequel, Overwatch 2 isn't planning to replace the original. Instead, it's reported to be a shared universe--not just in their many characters, but also in the way Overwatch 2 players share modes with players on the Original. And, it also means that progress from the Original can be carried over to the sequel.

It really seems like Kaplan's doing right by their fanbase, and hopefully, it all gets ironed out before their as yet unconfirmed release window. Far into development, it might just release before Diablo sometime in 2020.

Like most upcoming games, this one remains a huge mystery so far but thankfully each year Microsoft adds more details to the story and gameplay. It’s a huge step for the HALO universe and we hope it delivers when it comes out sometime this 2020.

Sail around in the fable-like fantasy world, build, explore, and gather resources for your journey. What's most interesting about it though is its seeming exploration of loss.
18. Microsoft Flight Simulator

19. Little Nightmares II

Tarsier Studios’ sequel to their otherworldly platformer-adventure is taking you into the Maw once again. Most details remain a mystery so far, but the game’s biggest surprise is the switching of protagonists. You are no longer playing the girl with the yellow raincoat, instead, you play as Mono, which was a character from the previous title.

This sequel will further explore the harrowing atmosphere of The Maw and what lies beyond this demented dimension. It’s coming out sometime this 2020.

20. Cris Tales

This time-bending adventure takes us into the life of Crisbell as she stops a powerful Time Empress from messing up the future. Developed by Smilegate Entertainment, it is an improved adaptation of the renowned Crossfire back in 2007.

Returning to this enhanced version are the familiar shooter aesthetic, namely in its backdrop involving players to fight for one of two mercenary factions. The trailer announcing the game at Microsoft’s E3 2019 showed off many of the same themes and motifs, including vehicular combat, underwater action, and modern weapons and tactics galore. No release date yet, but it’s slated for release sometime this 2020.

22. Overwatch 2

Politics aside, the next step for the future of Blizzard’s award-winning fast-paced hero-based shooter is a massive expansion for their existing game. Serving as a major update to the base game, this will add more content to its gameplay, mainly in its story mode. It also comes with an updated game engine, enhancing the graphics.

This ‘fresh’ batch of content includes a new PvE story-mode similar to the base game’s events. In addition, new characters and a few maps will be added alongside its major release sometime this 2020.

23. 12 Minutes

Another one from Annapurna Interactive. This indie game from developer Luis Antonio is a top-down interactive thriller where the story takes place in a looping apartment stuck in a 12 minute time-loop.

Doomed to relive the same thing again and again, point and click your way to freedom in its interesting narrative. Use ‘time’ at your advantage and escape from this messy and distorted curse. Coming sometime this 2020.

24. Project Resistance

We might have to wait a bit longer for the imminent release of Resident Evil 8 or hopefully a remake of Nemesis. This horror experience is unlike the usual survival-horror we’ve come to know and love.

Instead, it’s a whole new 1 versus 4 assymetrical online game where players work together to escape an experimental lab led by a mysterious Mastermind. Capcom's Priject Resistance shares the same gameplay from other survival-horror like Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th.
25. Diablo IV

This brand new Diablo entry sees the return of Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto. Not many details so far, but the game will feature an open world map with five regions. Pick from five of its customizable classes and smash and loot your way through this terrifying world. No release date yet, unfortunately.

Microsoft’s console might be slow this year, but 2020 is shaping up to be something great for Xbox, especially with its elusive Project Scarlett.

Whatoplay presents our 25 most-anticipated Xbox One games for 2020 and beyond. All arranged by release dates.

25 Upcoming Xbox One Games of 2020

Wonder what kind of realities we'll dive into next year? We got just the thing for you. Check out our list of Upcoming VR Games for the full catalog.

1. The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners

The Walking Dead series is rife with VR ideas. Unlike The Walking Dead Onslaught which will release later this year, this one from Skydance Interactive doesn't have anything to do with the popular AMC series. Instead, it takes inspiration from the comic books to create an all-new experience. Saints & Sinner, like most zombie games, is also a shooter but it's set in an open world environment.

Within this vast world, it will have over 15 hours of gameplay, which is ambitious considering the constraints of the platform. Basing off of what their developers say, it feels like there's a lot of emergent gameplay to prepare for.

It's set to release soon on January 23rd.

2. Marvel's Iron Man VR

Tony Stark's legacy continues to live on, at least out of Marvel's cinematic universe. Taking on the adventures of the high-flying Avenger is a feat on the platform, considering the VR's occasionally dizzying patterns. But, seeing the feedback from the trailers and especially from gamers who experienced the demo, this Iron Man VR is a promising title.

Put on the famous Iron Man suit and fly through the skies in battles with drones, and a "ghost" from Tony's past. The voice and face behind the iconic suit may be unfamiliar to us compared to RDJ's famous portrayal, but it seems like he still has the biting wit that we've come to love.

Marvel's Iron Man VR by Camouflaj may not be a full-on Iron Man title, but, it's the closest we'll have yet and it's coming out on February 28th.

3. Paper Beast

The great about Virtual Reality games is that it doesn't always have to BE reality. Paper Beast, the latest title from the creator of 90s titles like Another World and Heart of Darkness, Eric Chahi, makes use of that to create a game that's about origami wildlife as much as it is about math and data.

For Chahi, he created an ecosystem that thrives on its own, deriving life from information and the many anomalies that can exist within it. It's definitely experimental and their trailers suggest that it has that intersection of weird and immersive that makes it perfect for the platform.

Clearly, a lot of poetry was involved in creating this would-be masterpiece and hopefully it'll all be clear when it releases early next year.

4. Solaris: Offworld Combat VR on PC and PS4

First Contact Entertainment already impressed us with 2018's Firewall: Zero Hour. And next year, they're hoping to do it all over again with this brand new multiplayer shooter. Hoping to live up to games like Quake, Solaris will feature a fast-paced 4-against-4 gameplay where you crash into weapons and get ready to shoot it out.

Solaris will also have dedicated servers from Day One, which is something that bothered a lot of players of the studios' previous title. There really isn't much in the way of gameplay so far, but their videos have done enough to stoke excitement for the upcoming game.

It's coming out on the Oculus Quest, Rift, and PSVR in 2020.

5. The Wizards – Dark Times on PC and PS4

Our next game may had its roots in a magic-based wave shooter called The Wizards, their standalone expansion is a whole lot more different than you'd expect.

Working on feedback from their original game, Carbon Studio takes players to a completely new era, packed with new enemies and allies, and sprinkled with improvements to UI and gestures. This means that casting refreshed arsenal of cool spells will be a breeze against the many enemies you'll face.

Some might say it's not the most tactically deep VR game in terms of combat. With this expansion, though, Carbon Studio shows just how much they care about putting out a good game.

It's set to release sometime in 2020.

6. Lone Echo 2

Lone Echo was one of the most impressive titles in the early VR stages and its definitely one that deserves a spanking new sequel. Still in the outer reaches of space, Lone Echo 2 finds us reentering the rings of Saturn in a journey that will take us past the wishy-washy boundaries of time.

Set 400 years into the future of the first game, not a lot will be familiar to you but it's going to be fascinating to uncover what's happened since then. One of the strongest features of the first game was their beautiful visuals. That kind of quality is clearly still true in this upcoming sequel from Ready at Dawn.

It's set to release on the Oculus Rift early next year.

7. The Room VR: Dark Matter on PC and PS4

The Room has been doling out immersive puzzle-solving for years. Now they're finally dipping their toes into the world of VR and it's an exciting prospect for fans of the series, as well as for puzzle fans on the platform. Setting up shop in almost all available platforms--from the Rift, Quest, and PSVR, to the HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality--Fireproof Games is dedicated to bringing the experience to everyone.

Travel to 1908 London and be prepared to solve the mysteries inside the British Museum. Leave no stone unturned in your quest for clues that's going to be more tactile than ever before.

It's coming out early next year.

8. Boiling Steel

Another entry in the list of upcoming sci-fi shooters, MIROWIN's Boiling Steel takes us to a world of robots vs robots. Marketing itself as a VR shooter with an intriguing storyline, players get sent to a dog eat dog world a thousand light-years away from home.

It's currently in its Alpha stage and they've invited everyone to take a look at their progress so far. For now, it's still pretty gritty. There's a lot of recycled assets and nothing much to distinguish it from all other shooters.

Here's hoping things start looking up in the meantime as it gets a release window of 2nd quarter of 2020.

9. Espire 1: VR Operative

Tripwire Interactive is also showing their VR project and it’s turning out like a videogame from the future. Like Dishonored meets Warframe, enjoy a futuristic stealth experience where you control drone operators from the future.

It's a stealth VR game and its features already distinguishes it from most VR games today. For one, you'll get to roam freely around their environments which makes it easier to perform stealth attacks and opens up a variety of killing methods. Espire also takes stealth to a new level with built-in voice control that means they can hear you too.

All that plus the promise of smart enemy AI, Espire 1 is surely one to watch out and it's set to on June 30, next year.

10. Firmament on PC and PS4

Kickstarter may be getting a new feather on its cap with this new title coming from the makers of Myst and Riven. Reaching their goal of 1.3 million dollars, Cyan Worlds is set to wow us with their anticiapted narrative adventure.

Created using the Unreal Engine 4, we know its steampunk locations and lore are gonna look jaw-dropping, especially on the VR. We only have a teaser trailer so far. However, their constant updates let us know that its gonna be world navigated through an evolving gesture-based communication with a trusty adjunct sidekick.

With a music team led by Emmy-winning Russell Brower as the cherry on top of their already delicious looking title, Firmament is looking pretty good indeed and it's coming out on the Rift, Vive, Index, and PSVR on July 2020.

11. RoboCats

You can tell from their title that it's not really something that takes itself too seriously. It's pretty straightforward. You are robot cats and you pass the time by punching blocks and dodging walls.

The main element here is fun, and you can do that by sharing the virtual world with a bunch of other bored friends. Judging from their videos, watching other people play is just as fun as the game itself.

It's simple, casual VR fun by Virtual World Arcade and it's coming out on the Valve Index, Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality on November 2nd next year.

12. Boneworks

VR is an experiment in itself and with this coming action title, Stress Level Zero is testing the limits of physics in virtual reality. It's an action-packed title as you pick up various weapons and tools from the game's environment and use them against enemies in creative ways.

From guns to crowbars and swords and even potted plants. There's a lot in Boneworks' arsenal and using them looks satisfyingly fluid and realistic. Headbutt drones, pierce em and fling em around as you will.

To spice up the experiment, Boneworks is set in a world that feels like a Half Life revival. It just might be the next level in VR development, and hopefully, we'll know more from it through the year as it's coming out in the fourth quarter of 2020.

13. After The Fall on PC and PS4

Long-time VR fans might just be getting wishes with this new title from the makers of Arizona Sunshine. What with the success of Vertigo's previous hit, a lot of people are already expecting After the Fall to be just as awesome. Still a first-person action shooter, After the Fall explores a fight for survival in a hostile, ice-covered apocalypse set in 80s Los Angeles.

The gameplay looks like it's gonna take a wild turn, and the infected zombies have gotten bigger too. Following these features, After the Fall will also have multiplayer elements that will definitely make the shooting even more interesting.

It's coming out sometime in 2020.

14. Medal of Honor: Above & Beyond

Ok so the FPS VR fatigue might be settling in by now, but trust me, if there's one FPS title you wanna see, it's this. Not only is this a long-awaited new entry to the Medal of Honor series, but it's also gonna come from the same people who brought us Titanfall and Apex Legends. It's two legends coming into one and they definitely went above and beyond.

Yes, Medal of Honor as a VR game is about action on the frontlines of World War II. But, it's also about immersion and interactivity. That means getting to interact with various objects, and also not having a single breathing moment on the battefield.

It's set to release sometime in 2020.

15. Low-Fi on PC and PS4

From the realism of war to a dystopian cyberpunk future. Cyberpunk has been on the rise these days, and Low-Fi is cashing in. Out of all the titles based on the genre, Low-Fi definitely nails the Blade Runner aesthetics. From dark, towering, edifices, to the streaks of consumerist neon, and high flying cars.

It's a spiritual successor to IRIS VR's own Technolust. But, instead of being a linear experience, LOW-FI expands the premise into a massive, interactive open world. As part of law enforcement, you'll get to call the shots on what to do next. Whether its criminal investigation or actual criminal activity. The cyberpunk competition is tough these days but this is definitely a dream come true for Blade Runner fans.

It's set to release in 2020.

1. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

If there's one thing Bandai Namco is known for, it's their anime entertainment. And their biggest treat for us next year is this retelling of one of the most popular arcs in Dragon Ball History. Now, being one of the most popular arcs, this isn't the first time we're experiencing this story.

Bandai Namco, though, assures all of us that it'll still be a fresh experience thanks to an array of improvements on gameplay and visuals. Their recent announcements have revealed that beloved characters like Cell, Gohan, and so much more, will be joining in the adventure.

It's coming out on Jan 17th

2. Ori And The Will Of The Wisps

Microsoft made one of their best moves ever when they acquired this metroidvania platformer from developer Moon Game Studios. Since then, Ori has been the gift that keeps on giving, especially this time with a fresh new sequel coming out. In Will of the Wisps, we'll get to see Ori venturing out from their original magical forest to forge adventures in the world beyond.

It's been a long journey for the title, and from what we've seen from all their E3 presentations, it still feels like the same majestic, challenging, and tear-jerking platformer. But, of course, with more nimble movements and a host of new enemies to take down.

We'll finally get to see it live this February 11th, 2020.

3. Watch Dogs: Legion

Ubisoft has a lot on their plate but they're planning to serve us another side of revolution in this latest installment to their Watch Dogs series. With Legion, they're definitely pulling out all the stops as they expand on the idea of open-world by eliminating all NPCs. That's because Watch Dogs Legion lets players take on absolutely anyone who chooses to take part in the rising revolution. It's rife with technological innovations and it promises variety in terms of experience and gameplay.

Ambitious is one way to describe it and we're hoping to see it on March 6th

4. Doom Eternal

We were all a little bit disappointed when id Software moved their brand new Doom title from its November release date. Still, it's always a good move for games to be given more time in the oven. That's especially true given the scale of Doom Eternal.

Spreading out of the realms of hell, the iconic Demon slayer is broadening his horizons. Not only is he bringing the fight to the equally garish monsters of the pearly gates, he's also going for a lot of new mobility at his disposal. And to add to the beloved single-player campaign, Eternal will also have multiplayer invasions where players get to play the Demons themselves.

That's a lot of new features, and we can't wait to finally try it out on March 20, 2020

5. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

t's been more than a few decades since Vampire the Masquerade landed on the PC in 2004. 15 years later, the cult classic is getting a new lease on life and we're gonna get to experience the nocturnal adventures once again. Still set in the 21st century, Continue your vampiric adventures and settle into underworld gloom of nighttime Seattle.

Choices still play a massive part of gameplay, and it comes out through your character’s backgrounds, as well as the decisions you make in the various dialogs and interactions. All that is important when there are factions vying for your loyalty-----including the fan favorite Malkavians.

It's set to release on March 2020.

6. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Now, this isn't a official release yet, but it's the most we're gonna see from this title in over ten years and we're definitely not missing out on it. It was only last August when TaleWorlds Entertainment announced this Early Access release. Sure, it's no official release date. But, with this Early Access announcement is a promise that we'll get to see the fruit of what seems to be a decade-long labor.

There's been plenty of medieval playgrounds available through the years, and it's only kept us wondering what Mount & Blade II will have in store for us. It probably won't be perfect at the outset. However, from what we saw in their campaign overviews, siege defences, and faction overviews, the March 2020 Early Access is gonna be one hell of a treat.

7. Cyberpunk 2077

Perhaps one of the biggest titles to look forward to next year is the newest IP from Witcher developers CD Projekt Red. If their success with their fantasy action RPG is any indication, Cyberpunk 2077 might just be their most ambitious game yet. Then again, why rely on speculation when we have a 48 minute gameplay walkthrough to drool over.

Create everything about your character, from their appearance, stats, background stories, and modifications. And then roam around Night City where Big Corporation is law. Dystopia might not be so screenshot friendly. Cyberpunk 2077 is still expected to set a new bar for the open world, with seamless exploration and vibrant populations.

It's set to release on April 16th, 2020

8. Marvel's Avengers

Marvel is a force in the box offices, and now they're setting their sights on videogames once more. What might be a little sad is the fact that the videogame counterparts of our favorite characters don't match the faces we got used to in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But, that doesn't make Marvel's Avengers any less of a big deal. While it's not connected to the MCU, it is developed by the same studio that brought us the rebooted Tomb Raider series. Crystal Dyanamics is promising to redefine the superhero genre. Other than teaming up with other icons and mastering their individual abilities, we'll also get to witness an original story in their protagonist, Kamala Khan.

It's set to release on May 15th 2020.

9. Dying Light 2

A series built on combat, graphics, co-op multiplayer, and a day and night cycle, Dying Light 2 stands firms on all those aspects in this second installment. What makes this sequel exciting is the added focus on player choices.

Building on a brand new engine, The City in Dying Light 2, isn't just four times bigger, it will also react to whatever decisions you make along the way. With so many of them planted into a more focused narrative, they open up a host of possibilities that will make each playthrough feel special. And with the added mobility of the new protagonist, Aiden Caldwell, it also means more ways of dealing with the zombies of the night.

It's set to release this Spring 2020

10. Minecraft: Dungeons

Minecraft, like its many universes is an ever growing franchise and it looks they're expanding into the RPG realm now too, taking notes from classics like the Diablo series. While it's still largely voxel based, Minecraft Dungeons veers away from their usual first-person style adventures. It dons the familiar isometric perspective, immersing players fully into the dungeon-crawling we loved and still love today.

Minecraft Dungeons will have a multiplayer mode which lets up to four players team up in local and online co-op.It may not be Diablo 4, but from the looks of the trailer alone, it already seems like a promising lovechild of the two massively popular franchises.

It’s set to release sometime in Spring 2020.

11. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Quarantine

Ubisoft's Tom Clancy series is taking on something kind of new. Set several years into the future of their Rainbow Six series, Quarantine explores the team's fight against a mutating alien parasite. From their teaser trailers, we know it's going to have a lot of adrenaline pumping scares in their isolating halls.

While the classic Tom Clancy FPS features will make their return, Rainbow Six Quarantine is said to show off a brand new 3 player co-op, letting you get into gunplay and tactics with two other friends. We haven’t seen much of that though, since it’s all been teasers so far.

Even if you're not a Rainbow Six player, Ubisoft Montreal assures you that Quarantine will be a good place to start for the series. It's set to release Early next year.

12. Halo Infinite

The return of Master Chief is exciting for all the fans of Microsoft's Halo series. While it was first announced in E3 2018, we finally got a lengthier dose of the title in E3 2019 with their 5 minute cinematic.

As for gameplay is concerned, on the other hand, we don't have much to go on yet. What we do know is that Halo Infinite will definitely put Master Chief center stage for a story that's as yet unknown to us. We won't be getting a Battle Royale mode, unlike all the other games, that’s also for sure. And though there are talks of a local four-player splitscreen multiplayer, there aren't any confirmation on whether it'll apply on the PC. We'll have to stand by for more news until its release right in time for the holidays next year.

13. Humankind

If there's one thing that's big on the PC, it's 4X strategies. And this time, SEGA takes a shot at it with a game that isn't subtle about their Civilization inspirations. Developed by the same minds as the impressive 4X fantasy strategy, Endless Legend, AMPLITUDE Studios is taking on Human History.

Titled Humankind, it's definitely more than just a Civ clone as it brings to the fore all the things that Endless Legend a modern classic is while showing off an array of innovative new features. Instead of just sticking to one civilization, Humankind will allow us to go through six different eras from our own history.

Calling it their Magnum Opus, there's a lot of hype for Amplitude Studios' next game and it's coming out sometime in 2020.

14. Tales of Arise

Bandai Namco’s latest Tales game veers away from the shared universe of the previous titles. For the first time in a long time, Arise takes you into a whole new world torn apart by ideologies.

Still embracing that fantasy charm, play as two characters with the same goal of uniting their divided world once and for all. Aside from an original world, Arise also features a fresh cast of characters that are as memorable as any other Tales games out there. In addition to that, its improvement of the Linear Motion Battle System makes combat even more satisfying.

It’s set to release sometime in 2020

15. Total War Saga: Troy

Rage—Goddess, sing the rage of Peleus' son Achilles.

Where Humankind takes up the human history mantle, the veterans of the strategy genre are taking a turn for the mythical. With Total War Saga, the series explores the events of the Trojan War through the arguably blind eyes of the great poet Homer. That means we'll get to see Ajax, Paris, and the legendary faceoff of Achiless and Hector. All of it in in the long-running fight for the treasures of Troy and the return of Menelaus' beautiful wife Helen.

We've already seen some features of the map in their Campaign reveal but we're awaiting see a whole lot more. Announced very recently this year, we'll have to expect it sometime in 2020.

2020 is gonna be a big year for games and that goes for the PC too. These are our picks for the biggest, Triple A titles that are coming to the PC next year.

15 Upcoming PC AAA Games of 2020

You can see the complete, up-to-date listing on our page dedicated to all Android eSports mobile games.

10. Arena of Valor

If there's one genre that's expertly navigated the esports environment, it's the MOBA. And, that's exactly what Tencent got to do on the mobile. Arena of Valor, a 5V5 game much like League of Legends, isn't the company's first rodeo. In fact, they've amassed quite a success with their China-exclusive Honor of Kings.

To produce the same results in the Western market, they created Arena of Valor which enjoyed more than a third of the mobile esports viewership in 2018, according to escharts.com. So, it's BIG big, and you can expect the same kind of grandeur in their events too. Especially with their own esports league, Arena of Valor gets that brand of authenticity, complete with analyst desks, casters, and fancy stages.

There's been plenty of tournaments so far, and their next International will be held in Thailand this November. With some news of Tencent abandoning support for the arguably better League of Legends Mobile, that might’ve contributed to its marginal playscore of 7.8

9. Mobile Legends

While Arena of Valor was big in the West, Mobile Legends is an example of a more localized phenomenon. It's still from China, though, particularly Shanghai's Moonton Studios. Despite being in existence since 2016, Mobile Legends hasn't exactly caught on in the West. That's probably not gonna happen any time soon, either.

Moonton has bumped heads with League of Legends' Riot Games after they sued Mobile Legends for plagiarism, and ML's meta doesn't sit well for those in the west who are more inclined to the balance in Arena of Valor and the OG mobile MOBA, Vainglory.

That said, Mobile Legend's influence can't be downplayed, with tournaments spanning across Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and even some in Europe. All of these you can witness yourself in their dedicated esports Youtube Channel, MLBB esports. There's definitely a lot of love out there for this humble MOBA, and it sits comfortably in the mobile esports scene with a score of 7.87.

8. Shadowverse CCG

One of the players in the collectible card game scene, Cygames' Shadowverse has carved a name for itself much like Hearthstone. And there's plenty of similarities that bring them very close. Shadowverse CCG is also a casual serving of the CCG formula. But, according to some, there's a lot more free-to-play generosity, giving starters better chances of getting top tier with plenty of packs and a fairer balance. And if you're into it, Shadowverse also has some of the more anime characters and archetypes.

Their esports scene may be in the lower end of the mobile esports pie, but they're still raking in huge numbers with their tournaments all over Europe and Asia. Just recently, they even had the Shadowverse Open Contenders Cup which was live-streamed on their Cygames Esports youtube account. The Shadowverse esports scene is definitely still going, although you may not see from their playscore of 7.91.

7. Summoners War: Sky Arena

There may have been a lot of doubts about its viability as an esport in the beginning, but Summoners War has slowly climbed its way up to being on the "forefront of the mobile competitions." No one else was more surprised than their own developers, Com2US, who in an interview with gamesindustry, said that they were shocked by the audience's reaction at Amazon's Mobile Masters.

One year later, Summoners War: Sky Arena is still positively thriving. At the time of writing, there's Summoners War World Arena Championship Cups being played in Europe, the Americas, and the Asia Pacific. The competition comes with players strengthening their league of monsters to battle it out with other talented strategists.

It's a lot like MOBA where you draft monsters into the arena and have opponents ban whichever will ruin their chosen tactics most. Unexpectedly exciting, Summoners War: Sky Arena gets a playscore of 8.16.

6. PUBG Mobile

Now here's something a little more familiar to those in the PC esports scene. PUBG exploded into the market, becoming one of the foremost titles in the Battle Royale genre that invaded gaming for a long while.

Despite the downturn, PUBG remains a strong title in the mobile esports scene. There's been a lot of criticism about PUBGs little bugs and quirks, but overall, it's still one of the go-tos when it comes to realistic Battle Royale. Which is probably the reason for its ongoing success.

Its esports scene doesn't stray too far away from its PC counterpart. It even has players from well-known esports teams like Cloud9 which lend even more credence to its community. Currently, there's a PUBG Mobile Club Open going on, all of which are streamed at the dedicated youtube channel, PUBG Mobile esports with over 900 thousand subscribers and a prize pool running in the upper ten-thousands.

It's not much, but it goes to show that the PUBG love lives on, and it has a playscore of 8.25

5. Guns of Boom - Online PvP Action

This one might be a little bit unfamiliar for most, but it does make sense given all the positive feedback it got when it first released back in 2017. Just recently, it even earned a place in our countdown of the 20 Best Android FPS games.

Weird name notwithstanding, Game Insight's Guns of Boom is one slick FPS beast and it slowly became one of the premier titles on the mobile, especially for fans of Overwatch and Team Fortress. This is reflected in their nascent esports scene that mostly grew in 2018. A lot of people may dispute its pay to win and auto-shooting aspects, Guns of Boom continues to rise, with many talented teams competing in their Seasonal Gods of Boom competitions.

Right now, their youtube channel is rife with cheers and recaps of their last esports league in Cologne. On the flip side, it's also doing well as an individual, free-to-play game on the Android, with a playscore of 8.31.

4. Hearthstone

Who doesn't know Blizzard's popular card game? Arguably one of the most recognized and entrenched esports scenes on this list, Hearthstone on Android definitely benefits from the game's cross-play capabilities. As such, its esports scene isn't entirely a mobile experience, and whichever device you play on, it's still the same game.

That being said, that only adds to the credibility and competitiveness of Hearthstone. If you're good on the mobile, you're good at it everywhere. Hearthstone, though, has been getting a lot of criticism. And that was going on way before the very controversial incident involving Blitzchung and his live Hong Kong protest.

Even as a free-to-play game, a lot of veteran card game players comment on how "expensive" Hearthstone is. This means that competing at the professional level may require you to break the bank. A lot of changes do seem to be underway for the coming season. It has a playscore of 8.41.

3. Clash Royale

Right after their massive success with Clash of Clans, Supercell managed to replicate their achievement with this card-based strategy tower defense. Other than replicating success, Clash Royale even paved the way to creating an esports scene around it called the Clash Royale League. And, boy, is it thriving.

While there are many teams vying for the crown, their best teams look like a highlight reel of the best in the whole of esports. And, perhaps, that's best explained by the fact that the mobile game made their debut with a million-dollar prize pool that's set to get even bigger with this second season.

As of writing, there's an ongoing West Fall League that's currently in its fifth week, and amassing views numbers of over 100,000. Even with just a devilish 666K subscriber count, it's clear that the future is bright for this Supercell title which has a playscore of 8.41.

2. Call of Duty®: Mobile

Coming out just this October, this is the most recent game on our list. Activision's Call of Duty: Mobile might still be settling in on the platform--its launch has reportedly even been plagued with lags and bugs. But, with the wide reaches of its parent franchise, many people are already speculating on its potential esports viability.

Within a week of its launch, it has amassed over 35 million downloads and over 2 million dollars in microtransactions money. The reason behind its hotcake retail rate seems to be its extensive 100 player battle royale mode that lets players compete as solo players, or with teams of two and four.

With such a massive launch, the esports agenda is bound to come up soon. In fact, according to toornament.com some of them have already sprung up. Right now, all we have is excitement and its playscore of 8.75 to show us it ain't bad at all.

1. Clash of Clans

Clash Royale has a way of testing individual strategic skills. On the other hand, SUPERCELL's first outstanding success also has some esports potential on its own, testing the skills of clans worldwide to defend their own in the LEDs of large studios.

Starting out recently in February of this year, COC's Clan War Leagues have switched to a brand new 5v5 format and enticing us all with a hefty million dollar prize pool. Included alongside the superstars of the esports league, COC's scene is nothing to snub your nose at.

On top of Town Hall clashes here and there, there's also the massive World Championship qualifiers that will come to a head this October in Hamburg's ESL stage. It's definitely happening for COC. Its got an esports scene going for it, and, considering its also an enjoyable game on its own, its playscore of 8.86 earns its this well-deserved winning spot.

The eSports scene in mobile is far from usurping PC titles but it doesn't mean there is none present. Here's our ranking of the best eSports games on Android.
