10. YIIK: A Postmodern RPG

Getting mixed reviews on Steam, and some decent ratings from critics, Ackk Studios' indie RPG laden with hipster vibes is a polarizing at best. Harking back to the 1990s with its visuals and characterization, you either get it or you don't. Y2K brands itself as a surreal Japanese-style RPG, becoming obvious with their heavy handed references to the quirky, witty, and underrated Mother series--or Earthbound for the North American fans.

Telling the story of a liberal arts major, Alex, and his friends through visual novel style and JRPG like combat, you can expect Y2K to be easy on whatever low-end laptops and desktops you have. Requiring only 2gigs of RAM and the basic Intel Graphics, you can experience its unique offering of turn of the century angst and dialog.

Not exactly the most universally praised title, you can at the very least, find out for yourself. It has a provisional playscore of 7.33

9. The Eternal Castle [REMASTERED]

Obnoxiously plastering REMASTERED onto its title, Eternal Castle markets itself as a remake of a 1987 title of the same name. Nobody's entirely sure if there was such a game but, for the most part, the consensus about the game is, fortunately, it's pretty good--remake or not. With its bright pixel environments, Eternal Castle plays at a steady 18 frames per second. Before anyone of you gets disappointed, that's how it was intended to be, and that's exactly how it played on our low-end devices.

Rendered with computer generated animation, the game's visuals definitely looks rough, which only adds to the believability of its supposed retro, 1980s origins. Telling the tale of a world post AI using colorful and purposive silhouettes, Eternal Castle is an enjoyable package of sights, sounds, and story.

Whether or not it's a remaster, what's important is it's here, it's decent, and it works. It has a playscore of 7.77

8. Spinnortality

Looks like cyberpunk is a huge trend among this list of low-spec games. This one from developer James Patton, on the other hand, is less action-packed shooting sequences, and more mindful destruction. A cyber simulation at its heart, Spinnortality lets you play the other side of the revolution coin by putting you at the heart of an evil global megacorporation.

Mastermind stock market crashes, forward automation in place of human workers, or rig the next developing nation's elections--all with a click of a button. All of this is presented in their stylish UI, with sleek maps and menus, that never fail to tell you the news and updates of your latest bad deed. Overlooking the whole world in one place, it leaves whatever disastrous consequences to your imaginations, making it an incredibly light game for your system.

A portable showcase of corporate's dark side, it has a provisional playscore of 7.79

7. WarGroove

From the publishers behind the adorable indie farming simulator, Stardew Valley, Chucklefish comes out of their picturesque farms and into the world of turn-based tactics. Inspired by the 2001 tactical classic, Advanced Wars, they bring back their signature retro pixel aesthetics to reintroduce the turn-based genre through their detailed sprites, memorable characters, and inviting storyline.

While some games in the art style might be a little taxing on graphics, WarGroove is decently optimized for low-end devices, running smoothly at 60 frames per second with no graphical tweaks needed. Paired with Chucklefish's style is an equally mesmerizing soundtrack to accompany the game's many campaigns.

Far from perfect, WarGroove is a recent but hefty addition to any turn-based fan's library. Supporting cross-platform play, online multiplayer, local co-op, and a comprehensive level editor that lets you create maps and cutscenes, it’s a well-deserved playscore of 8.09

6. PikuNiku

Devolver's got some of the most stylish titles in the indie lineup but one of the best ones for your potato PCs is this quirky puzzle adventure game from Sectordub. Much like most indie titles, Pikuniku commits to naive minimalism with their simple hues, flat geometric shapes, and wobbly-legged characters.

Going ahead into the important stuff, Pikuniku's gameplay stays at a pretty steady 60fps, except for a few hiccups in a some areas. It's visuals isn't too far from what you would expect from today's crop of mobile games, but this game one-ups all of them simply by the charm of the execution.

Simplistic and occasionally aimless as it is, it never feels cheap. Despite sticking with traditional platforming, you never know what to expect from it as you jump from one vague objective to the next.

A light, mixed bag of pure delight, this might be the adorable albeit short title you need on your PC, with a playscore of 8.11

5. Becalm

Colorfiction’s free-to-play casual game isn’t really much of a game. It’s an adventure that involves no gameplay at all. Becalm introduces you to a literal calming experience as you drift through magical waters.

It’s dreamy watercolor aesthetics bring life to multiple biomes and offer a unique experience for players who just don’t want to kill monsters and do silly quests. Simply use your mouse and voyage across its picturesque ocean.

As a visual experience, it does take up a lot of GPU and PC energy. So as you are at the mercy of the wind and casting adrift on your sailboat, the game fluctuates between 23 to 30 fps throughout.

It has a provisional playscore of 8.17

4. Catherine Classic

Before Full Body comes out on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this original version of the adventure-puzzler from ATLUS is about to steal your heart, in a different way. It’s unlike any other game from the developers. You don’t fight demons, talk to them, or have a party member fighting in the name of friendship. But your choices will really matter in this game.

Play as Vincent, a normal man trapped in a nightmarish curse after meeting a mysterious girl named Catherine. Aside from that, you patch things up with your fiance, a Katherine with a K, in its choice-driven scenarios. Gameplay involves running away from demonic creatures, all while you move blocks strategically to climb the top in order to wake up from this nightmarish world.

We played this game on its default settings. The game runs pretty well, surprisingly. For low-spec gaming, you need to put your resolution at 1280 by 720. Enabling depth of field, bloom, blur, and anti-aliasing will give you a good framerate average of 44 fps.

It receives a playscore of 8.20

3. Takanaria

You gotta love pixel-indie games for their low-budget charm. Crownbird's simple game doesn’t have any story to complete and no hack and slash stylish combat. It’s an adventure game that takes you to a Greek-inspired island with a ton of new things to discover.

Enjoy its beautiful pixel scenery and take control of Anensi, a botanist, and Yaful, a manager of an island in Takanaria. It’s a short game that requires no intense dedication. Dialogue is kept simple and it feels like a young developers’ dream coming true. It’s art and it clearly shows that it’s made with passion. The game runs very well, of course, on our powerful PC. 60fps never felt this good on a pixel art game.

It has a provisional playscore of 8.26

2. Unsung Warriors: Prologue

We adore indie games on this list. It’s the perfect genre when it comes to low-spec gaming. You don’t need a fancy graphics card, a shiny RGB motherboard, or a huge monitor that supports 4K. All you need is the time and place to play this lovely action-adventure game from Osarion.

Set in the Europe-inspired Iron Age, fight your way past a vicious horde of enemies and evade traps. Explore an ancient crypt and uncover its secrets. It’s a game that can be played solo, or with a friend.

We tried it on our very reliable Whatoplay PC and yes, it runs pretty smoothly. It’s a good-looking game that consistently gives us 60 frames per second. You just gotta love these kind of indie games because there’s not much to worry about optimizations. You could say that they really are the ‘unsung heroes’ of this modern era of gaming.

It receives a rating of 8.84

1. Subnautica: Below Zero

Unknown Worlds’ latest addition to their open-ocean survival game takes you deep into an alien ecosystem in the dark and cold aquatic abyss. Set in a mysterious below-zero planet, try to make it out alive by finding the necessary tools for your escape.

Set in first person mode, submerge into this unknown ocean and encounter friendly AND deadly creatures of the deep. Below Zero is set in a freezing extraterrestrial planet, try to survive its unpredictable ecological mess by finding the right materials, resources, and tools.

As an Early Access Game, it’s almost unplayable. But don’t worry, you just need to sacrifice a few resolutions and some graphical quality changes in order to play it smoothly. Decrease it to 1024 by 768 and you’ll get an acceptable 22 to 28 FPS. Besides, it’s still an early access game so there’s more room to improve!

It has a provisional playscore of 8.96

1. Days Gone

Just when we thought the zombie genre is literally dead, SIE Bend's latest work comes out to prove that it’s not the case and that the zombie genre keeps showing up to the latest games on the market. It even had its own HD reimagining with this year’s Resident Evil 2 reboot.

But as for Sony’s latest exclusive, it takes the Zombie genre to a whole new level. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where you play as Deacon St. John. A former outlaw who travels the barren United States with his badass motorbike. Explore the forsaken Pacific Northwest riddled with zombies called the “Freakers”.

It's also not a linear experience, and its stealth mechanics seemingly lets players survive on their own terms. As a biker, upgrade and repair using scraps from the environment. Although it suffered numerous delays, the game is finally coming out this April 26.

2. Concrete Genie

Take a look at one of the best PS4 exclusive you probably haven't seen yet. While it's an admittedly low-key title from Pixelopus, Concrete Genie is anything but lackluster. An action-adventure game about a lone teenager with a knack for graffiti, Concrete Genie shows off a world that injects dazzling magic into his otherwise dreary reality. From what we see, it's already an artistic feat, with art styles, animations, and music that blend together into one atmospheric experience.

Talking about themes of bullying and escapism through emergent puzzle gaming, Ash--it's the main character--goes on to solve the environmental riddles using the monsters that he draws and breathes life into. It's not exactly groundbreaking, but the game makes up for it with the utter beauty of Ash's creations that will make you keep screenshots of everything. Great for that chill puzzle solving, it comes out this spring.

3. MediEvil

A game all about reanimating the dead, the 1998 classic action-adventure also gets a new lease on life in this ground-up remake. Already past resurrection with its 2005 reimagining for the PlayStation portable, this remake for the PS4 is leaps ahead in terms of graphics and gameplay. In their Halloween trailer last October 2018, SONY shows off just how much has changed between the old game and the new.

With its 4K resolution support, the skeletal knight looks as good as new in his clear as day nighttime environments. For the uninitiated, MediEvil follows the story of the knight, Sir Dan, as he battles against an evil sorcerer, a hundred years after his death on the battlefield. This story follows a slew of exciting hack and slash action that would put Dark Souls to shame--if Dark Souls existed in the 90s. A veritable treat for fans of the series, it's time for our inner children to return to Gallowmere once it releases sometime this year.

4. Trover Saves The Universe

One half of the duo that brought us "Rick and Morty", Justin Roiland teams up with Squanch Games to bring the world a new home for absurdist adventures. And for anyone who enjoyed the series, the look and feel of this 3D virtual reality world have pretty much the same energy as the TV--although less of their bleak and mundane earth world, and more of their interdimensional cosmos. Some of the series’ cast also lent their familiar voices to make the world feel more alive.

From their demo, it looks like they'll be more irreverent jokes, 4th wall breaking, and hilarious commercials in this title too. Playing as both chairworshipping Chairorpean and Trover, the focus for its creators has been to deliver an immersive experience, whether on the VR or in the traditional format--and you can be sure there's a meta comedic moment for that one too. With no release date yet, we'll have to wait and see what else is in store for us sometime this year.

5. WiLD

The man behind the cult success that was Beyond Good and Evil, Michel Ancel's name has been equated with greatness, so much so that anything he makes is a sure-buy. But, with Beyond Good and Evil's prequel of sorts already on the horizons, it looks like the long-promised WiLD has been put on the back burner. Announced at Gamescom 2014 with a spectacular trailer, Ancel's WiLD promised a procedurally generated survival game where we get to take control of all the animals and use it to fight against other tribes.

Paired with online play and a massive open world, it was definitely an ambitious premise that got everyone hooked. Aside from a few snippets from two years ago, and some teasers from Ancel's Instagram, there's really not much news on the game. On the other hand, at least we know this PS4 exclusive, though still in its early stages, is coming for us. Someday soon, we hope.

6. Deep Down

If anyone remembers that Dark Souls-like game CAPCOM made, it’s Deep Down. Still a working title, this adventure shares similarities to both Dragon’s Dogma and Dark Souls, the game sticks to the third-person action-adventure but with a greater focus on co-op multiplayer.

It’s a dungeon-crawling experience that enables players to roam around its medieval fantasy world slaying monsters and unlocking secrets. It’s set in the year 2094 and it tells the story of a group known as the Ravens tasked to recover historical memories by touching ancient objects. The game is still deep in development (no pun intended) and unfortunately, the release date is still a mystery.

7. Ghost Of Tsushima

From the guys that gave us the award-winning inFAMOUS series comes a brand new IP that exudes a strong Japanese machismo. Ghost of Tsushima is what Tenchu could’ve been in this modern time. Sucker Punch Productions puts us in a sprawling open-world for players to explore Tsushima Island.

Set during the first Mongol Invasion of Japan, players control the Last Samurai, Jin Sakai. Master new fighting styles and achieve the way of the Ghost to finally defeat the Mongolians and fight for the freedom and independence of Japan.

Gameplay mainly revolves around action-adventure with a huge emphasis on stealth. Set in a third-person perspective, players roam around the world taking missions and interacting with the environment. Use the game’s grappling hook feature to traverse seamlessly from point A to B. Duel with enemies and use your extensive array of Japanese medieval weapons including Katanas. It’s a true Samurai experience. Unfortunately, no release date yet. It comes out on the PS4.

8. Dreams

PlayStation 4’s new playground of creativity is developed by the guys behind LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway. Dreams is different compared to Media Molecule's other entries, it offers a surreal universe for players to play and enjoy. It showcases the PlayStation 4’s power of Play, Create, and Share. It relies heavily on the community and it’s up to the players to define their own version of the world.

Create various worlds with different experiences. Make interactive adventures, platformers, shoot ‘em ups, puzzlers, and even RPG’s. All it takes is just your imagination, and they are endless. Once everything is in place, share it with the community and let them enjoy your fine creation. It’s Sony’s version of RPG Maker. No release date yet, but hopefully it comes out soon.

9. Erica

When it comes to interactive stories, Sony excels at it. Notable games include Supermassive’s Until Dawn. This genre of gaming presents a multi-faceted version of storytelling and gameplay. Some would involve players making tough choices, while others simply follow the story and listen to what the protagonists have to say.

Erica is something. Developed by Flavourworks, it follows the story of a young woman haunted by a traumatic childhood. It blurs the line between a game and interactive movies. Dive into a unique cinematic experience that throws you into a shadowy world of emotional storytelling. Use the PlayStation 4’s PlayLink feature and simply use your mobile device to interact around Erica’s world.

Decipher the protagonist’s mind and uncover the mystery behind her growing darkness. Using live-action visuals, it's an entertaining visual trip that comes out sometime soon. No release date yet, unfortunately.

10. Final Fantasy VII Remake

The updates for this awaited remake were few and far between, making some of us wonder if it's gonna release at all. While Square Enix have set the record straight November last year, no official release date has been confirmed yet. What we can look forward to, however, is a refreshed and renewed adventure with Cloud Strife and his friends.

Dubbed as the Midgar Experience, this classic installment covered their fight against the company Shinra for the world's natural powers. A JRPG masterclass, this ground-up remake is reportedly built from the ground up--letting go of the pre-rendered environments of the 1997 title for the polygonal graphics of today. With this came a host of problems in development, particularly in the jump towards the action RPG format, which is a far cry from their turn-based origins. An exciting new take on a beloved JRPG classic, we'll have to stay tuned for the next announcement.

11. The Last of Us: Part II

Only of one of Naughty Dog's many PS4 exclusive hits, The Last of Us has made many of us emotional in-between the life-threatening escapades of an infected post-apocalypse. Now, with a brand new sequel finally in the works, the whole world's just waiting with bated breath. Unfortunately, we're all just huffing at this point, with not many details about the progress so far.

From what we know though, it will revolve around a decidedly more grown-up Ellie. The creative directive, Neil Druckman has said the second installment will be a tale of revenge. Who needs avenging, we are yet to find out. Druckmann has also recently hinted at a heart-wrenching scene on his Twitter account. This all gets a little worrying, considering we still don't know whether or not we'll see Joel in Part II. Promising more tears and adrenaline-pumping action, it's gonna be one hell of a new entry that sadly doesn't have a release date yet.

12. Blood & Truth

If you enjoyed the brutal gangster experience in PlayStation VR Worlds' London Heist minigame, then you're going to love THIS. Expanding the premise of the London Heist into a full VR title, Sony's own London Studio presents us with an opportunity to take on John Wick-like experience by amping the excitement of their experimental demo. Not only does London look and feel the part in Blood & Truth, but shooting also does too.

The game attempts to simulate actual gun tactics, with realistic ammunition and reloads, giving players that action movie feel. For some gamers, though, this narrative VR shooter loses some of its allure when considering its lack of full locomotion. Following on the heels of Firewall Zero Hour and Bravo Team, Blood & Truth might have some difficulty competing. Still, it's a promising shooter for anyone looking for that definitively British tone. No release date yet.

13. Star Child

First presented in 2017's Paris Games Week, this action-adventure wowed the masses with visuals that were nothing less than stunning. Reportedly a VR game from Playful Corp, the folks behind the playground platformer, Lucky's Tale, Star Child keeps the spirit of their previous platforming hits in the immersive world of VR. Described by one fan as a RiME meets Metroid, Star Child is a beautiful-looking narrative adventure that puts to use the powers of the VR platform.

Revolving around Spectra and her companion, help the stranded friends fight alien entities by controlling the world around her. Between this intriguing premise and the masterfully crafted announce trailer, it's no wonder the fans were abuzz about this upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive. Like the other upcoming games in this list, the updates are few and far between. Thankfully, Playful's CEO squashed all speculations about its cancellations. So, we know it's coming but when exactly that will be, we don't know.

14. Death Stranding

Kojima-san’s latest videogame after his days in Konami is something we’re not ready. This brand new IP puts together Kojima’s love for hard science fiction mixed with his appreciation for some great cinematic moments. Packing together iconic actors such as Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux and Mads Mikkelsen. Together they tell a story that we still have no idea about.

Death Stranding takes players into the far future where a mysterious entity dominates humanity’s existence. But trailer after trailer, we still have no clue what Kojima means. First, we saw Norman Reedus delivering huge boxes, then we see a baby, then we see a gigantic monster with a hand for a face. We won’t get any answers as of the moment, and knowing Kojima, he’s just gonna keep doing that until we finally see the game come out sometime soon.

Release date is still a blur.

10. Death Road to Canada

Turning the polite stereotype on its head, Rocketcat Games is taking all of us on a road trip of the least Canadian sort. Mixing in elements of roguelike into their blocky survival shooter, Death Road to Canada welcomes us into a world of randomly generated cities where each journey will look and feel different every time. Road trips being a particularly social activity, the game translates the experience into the digital stage with their couch co-op capabilities.

Offering two-player, same-screen co-op where you control up to four characters, gather your party of zombie fighters, pass around the controller and spice up your evenings by batting undead heads, shotgun firing through hordes, and partaking in some nice chit chat. Made precisely for replay value, there's always new cars, weapons, and stories to unlock in Canada's zombie-infested highways.

The most family friendly zombie game out there, it has a playscore of 8.29.

9. Guacamelee! 2

Five years after the success of their first outing, Drinkbox Studios' brought us a stunning sequel to their multiawarded metroidvania platformer. Steeped in the bright colors and vibrant lucha libre culture of Mexico, Guacamelee 2 welcomes the return of their loco luchador, Juan Agcuate, who steps out of retirement to take on a new and important mission.

But, more importantly, their highly praised local co-op also makes a return. In this sequel, they double the cooperative dose, letting up to three of your best amigos drop in any time to join you across new arenas like Mangrove Swamp and the fiery depths of hell. You'll have to wade in solo for the first few minutes but you'll get there eventually.

Incorporating everything that made the first game stand out and adding a slew of delicious new features to the mix, Guacamelee 2 keeps faithful to the spirit of the series. A new Mexican adventure awaits you and your friends with a playscore of 8.58.

8. Overcooked

You can't make a co-op list without one of the most authentic cooperative experiences yet. Unlike most co-op games that lets you explore with a friend a world you can otherwise see alone, Ghost Town's couch multiplayer is built around working together with other people to fulfill the games’ mission. In Overcooked, you form a team of talented chefs who are each required to overcome the challenges of their crazy kitchens.

Whether its wading through busy traffic, crossing rivers on glaciers, or braving the sweltering heat of active volcanoes, you and your friends must learn to find their places and master their own culinary corners. With its simple controls, it's a game that's easy to pick up. With a press of a button, you'll be slicing, dicing and simmering in no time. Might take some getting used to with the shared controller mode, but it's definitely worth the laughs.

It has a playscore of 8.59.

7. Dragon's Crown Pro

Vanillaware's acclaimed medieval fantasy got a refreshing makeover with this enhanced port for the PlayStation 4. This 2D role-playing game was released on the PS Vita in 2013. During its time, critics went all out in praising the game for its great RPG mechanics and challenging dungeon crawling. An enjoyable game on its own, the real fun came with Dragon Crown's multiplayer adventures.

In their multiplayer modes, it allows up to four players to work together either in local or online coop. Reap the just rewards of your hack and slashing and watch the magical mayhem ensue in eye popping 4K resolutions. There isn't much in the way of new content for this PlayStation version but the PS3 and PS Vita crossplay lets you make the most of your 2D adventures.

A classic title from the Vanillaware vaults, it has a playscore of 8.68.

6. Resogun

One of the earliest games on our list. Finnish studio Housemarque has been serving couch co-op enjoyment on the PlayStation 4 since 2013. And with its bright neon futurism and, might I say, cyberpunk visuals--coop wasn't the only thing they piocaneered. Shoot it up in the matrix-like Avernus and take down the endless waves of enemies in Survival mode. With its kaleidoscope explosions and bright projectiles, Resogun is a perfectly immersive singleplayer experience, giving you leeway to focus on the non-stop action. However, the multiplayer just has its own charm.

Stand or hover side by side with your partner in voxel destruction and power through the massive attacks coming from both sides. It's a real-time test of friendship and teamwork as you give each other the cover they need. Five years later, there isn't a lot of activity in the online playing field, but booting up the local co-op remains a handy distraction.

A rating of 8.68.

5. Enter the Gungeon

Devolver Digital’s frenzied bullet-hell dungeon crawler that rewards players with fast reflexes and heavy artillery. Just one out of many stylish Devolver releases, Enter the Gungeon fits the company profile with its pixel graphics and the ordered chaos of its fast paced gameplay, all served with a side of trademarked silliness. As a bullet hell dungeon crawler, the game will test your dexterity as you move through the intense difficulty spikes of their randomly generated levels.

Where the game really shines though is in its cooperative mode that pits you and your friends against a seemingly endless onslaught of Gundead. Having one more liability adds more pressure so make sure you recuit only the best for your team--unless of course you’re just in for the lulz. Journey into their mysterious castles and fulfill the past-destroying mission of the Gungeoneers.

A playscore of 8.71.

4. Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition

It's hard not to know about Minecraft, what with the hundreds of youtube and twitch streams dedicated to Mojang's masterpiece. First released on the PC last 2011, the PlayStation 4 opened its doors to the open world sandbox game in 2014, widening all of our blocky horizons since. Acclaimed for their vast universe, it's neptune-sized world is up for exploration and survival, as well as unlocking your creative juices.

But a massive world is only as fun as the people you're with. That's why Minecraft gives players the chance to split their screens and roam about in pocket universes along with a friend. The skewed views might be a little awkward at first, but it's a popular option nonetheless as each player will get to see and interact with the environment as they please. Offering an almost endless haven for emergent gameplay, there's no wonder Minecraft has become a certified cultural phenomenon.

It has a playscore of 8.76.

3. Rayman Legends

No other name will be more apt for this fifth main entry in the Rayman series. More than just the latest installment in Ubisoft's highest rated platforming series, Rayman Legends has also gained a reputation for being one of the trippiest titles in the genre. Featuring their loveably disembodied title character, Legends dazzles at every turn with its colorful visuals, hypnotic soundtracks, and creative gameplay mechanics.

As well as new levels, it also has a new companion in the greenbottle Murphy, completing the quartet of agile adventurers in the four player co-op. Their unique mechanics serve to refresh their famed couch multiplayer. Throw punches at enemies and groove to their rhythm based maps.

There's not much that will convince old players to experience the world again, but, as it stands, it's one of the most exciting multiplayer platformers on the console and it has a playscore of 8.85.

2. Sonic Mania

2017 was a great year for Sonic fans with this throwback game that dips our feet back in the familiar pixels of their 2D stages. Refurbished and reinvented for the new generation, Sonic Mania boasts a lineup of bosses new and old, along with a brand new set of paths and secrets to discover. With Dr. Robotnik back to his old tricks, it’s up to Sonic and the gang to stop it all before it's too late. Set up the couch co-op experience as Sonic and his sidekick Tails, and together relive the good old Genesis days.

Much like the classic titles, it's a Sonic-focused experience which might leave second players behind on the fun. As its pretty much the same ring-collecting excitement we used to love on the Genesis, that also means its still lacking on some online features.

The ultimate celebration of SEGA's beloved blue hedgehog, it's a nostalgic treat for long-time fans with a playscore of 8.99.

1. Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition

Not quite what you’d expect for a couch party game, but if you want quality, Larian Studios’ RPG is where it’s at. Known for opening up creative possibilities in their Divinity Series, the relative newcomer that is Larian Studios has effectively cemented their RPG legacy. Bringing the emergent quality of pen and paper RPGs to the digital form, Divi1nity is praised for its interactive, elemental environments, customizations, and captivating storylines.

Tried and tested in the singleplayer field, they effectively double the excellence with the introduction of splitscreen co-op mode. Much like Minecraft, it gives each player the freedom to explore the magical fantasy world on their own, complete with individual characters and skills. With two players on each device, you can quadruple the excitement with the online multiplayer.

A polished gem made better, it has a playscore of 9.17.

5. Doom And Destiny

There’s a ton of potential when it comes to games made by the RPGMaker. It can even rival most indie RPG’s that come out today. Much like Asdivine Hearts, this game is a product of passion and creativity from Heartbit Interactive.

Known as the nerdiest adventure ever, play a group of four misfits on their quest to become heroes and save a fantasy world from falling into chaos. Though it sounds serious, the game is brimming with heartfelt humor. From parodies, cameos and the usual easter eggs makes every bit of this adventure amazing. It’s basically a manifestation of the RISE UP GAMERS meme circling around the internet.

With its 20 hours of story, 100 levels and other diverse content, it’s an epic RPG adventure that doesn’t necessarily take itself seriously. It receives sa Provisional PlayScore of 8.97.

4. Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon

It’s rare to see indie games flourish in Microsoft’s platform. The entire playerbase is enjoying most of its time in Triple A first person shooters and sports games.

Curse Of The Moon fits right in to the list of underrated Xbox One games. This retro style 8bit platformer from Inti Creates is a love letter to the famed Castlevania franchise. Though these graphics aren't the marvels of our age, the rich details of their 2D environments are still capable of wowing any of today's gamers.

It nails not just the gothic looks of the classic title but also their effective platforming. Capturing the essence and aesthetics of Castlevania as well as many of today's comforts, Bloodstained will appeal to those with an itch for old-school challenge without the frustration, alongside a few nostalgic elements. It receives a Provisional PlayScore of 9.01.

3. Turok Remastered

Before the age of world-class first person shooters and insane attention to detail in its visuals, there was Propaganda Games’ very own first person shooter.

Loosely based on the comic book series of the same title, this follows the story of a Native American Space Marine named Joseph Turok on his quest to apprehend a war criminal in a remote hostile planet.

It was one of the earliest shooters that was released during the era of PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. It didn’t receive much praise during its release due to its wonky design and other technical frustrations. This remaster, however, succeeded in addressing most of the original’s concern. But unfortunately, its remaster was buried by the amount of insane shooters that saturated the videogame market right now.

It receives a Provisional PlayScore of 9.04.

2. Spyro + Crash Remastered Game Bundle

Two of the most iconic characters in gaming in one bundle… for the Xbox One? This seemingly normal package takes you to two of the greatest gaming adventure for your childhood nostalgia. The entire package contains all entries including 3 of Crash’s and 3 of Spyro’s. It’s a wild ride between fiery puzzle platforming and wacky obstacle jumping.

Relive the magical moments of Spyro as he breathes fire, talks to friends and solve a myriad of puzzle with the use of this dragon abilities.

Crash, however, is a special kind. This remaster takes players to a better and bigger version of the Crash experience with improved visual, slightly tweaked difficulty and a somewhat frustrating platformer with a huge challenge. It’s the best of both worlds, and players who want all the challenge can jump right in. It receives a Provisional PlayScore of 9.06.

1. Mark Of The Ninja: Remastered

When it comes to remasters, it doesn’t always get much attention on the Xbox One. This impressive stealth-adventure platformer is a perfect example. From world-class spies to japan's elite mercenaries, it's time to prove your worth as ninja and traverse through tricky traps and highly-alert guards. Just like Gunpoint, Mark of the Ninja puts a premium on stealth and taking it to whole nother level.

Show off your innate agility and vulpine cleverness to outwit foes in every stage. Pay attention to the noise you make, and use the shadows to your advantage. It's a game that rewards you for your intelligent choices, giving you points for bloodless clears as well as your stealthy massacres.

With impressive visuals and responsive stealth mechanics, it's easily one of the most satisfying and highly replayable experiences in the genre, and for us, it’s the most underrated game on the Xbox One. It receives a Provisional PlayScore 9.26.

Top 10 UNDERRATED Xbox One Games You Might Have Missed in 2018

10. METAL SLUG XX

The heights of wartime action in the old generation, Metal Slug's long history took it to the PlayStation 4 in 2018 with the renewed port of Metal Slug 7. Revised and retitled, SNK's Metal Slug XX welcomes a whole array of features not present in its first DS outing. Advertised with the explosive enthusiasm of a Ghollywood hit, the PS4 port comes with modern comforts and features like trophies, high-resolution support, and co-op and online multiplayer--albeit with the input lags of the Share Play system.

Not included in many Metal Slug anthologies, finding one of the last games in the series on Sony's new-gen console is a joy for any of those who missed it on the DS. Make use of their seven playable characters and join them through the 7 branching stages of the game.

It's no Metal Slug 8, sure, but it should be good enough with a rating of 8.59.

9. DEADBOLT

Far from his usual dark robes and cumbersome reaper's scythe, Death takes on a new, noir-like look in this gritty stealth sidescroller from Hopoo Games. Known for creating Risk of Rain, an early roguelike Metroidvania gem from 2013, Hopoo Games doesn't have to veer too far in this 2018 title. Where Risk of Rain mastered the art of explosive action, Deadbolt, with the same sprite visuals, shows off their knack for the quiet and calculating.

Play as the reaper and deal out the afterlife in bloody shootouts that occur between maneuvering around vents, lockpicking, and working in the shadows. Earning a 10/10 on Steam already, the game has earned praise for its level layouts and gunplay that complimented well with the challenge of their gameplay.

Alternating well between strategy and shootouts, it earns a well-deserved spot on the list with a rating of 8.6

8. Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms

When we say D&D, we usually imagine a bunch of kids huddled around a table with pens and papers in hand, or, more recently, the vast digital worlds based around it. But when all of that gets too intimidating, Codename Entertainment's got us covered with a free-to-play idle clicker. With its simple cartoony visuals, it doesn't look like much. However, it hides a layer of strategic gameplay that will challenge your thinking skills.

Rounding up heroes with their own buffs and skills, WHERE you place them within the formation is a huge part of your parties’ success in the many battles ahead of them. Still an idle clicker, you’re always free to sit back and relax while they do all the hard, gold-collecting work. Missions also help with the experience, making it more than just an ever-increasing tick of numbers.

A deserving free to play title with no critic reviews, it has a provisional playscore of 8.65

7. Dragon Sinker

Another case of simplicity doing the most, KEMCO and Exe Create’s RPG adventure game harkens back to the past with its nostalgic 8bit pixel visuals and classic turn-based JRPG-like combat. Covering an epic battle against their world's tyrannical dragon, it plays a little like the Final Fantasy games we loved before. With a slew of little improvements to the RPG experience, like boss retries and convenient runaways. Simple as it is, battles have the tendency brutal early on.

Thankfully, you can have a party of up to 12 companions, leading all of them on a journey to sink the camel-texting dragon. It's no Square Enix title, but it works well for people looking for that memory gut punch on their fancy PlayStation 4s. It's even more of a deal knowing it's a cross-buy title that lets you blow off the dust on your PS Vitas too. It receives a rating of 8.65

6. Fallout Shelter

What started as a mere marketing strategy for the then-upcoming Fallout 4 title turned out to be a stellar success for the Bethesda team. Inspired by the visuals of a Fallout 3 ad, Fallout Shelter flattens the nuclear overworld into a two-dimensional plane lets you become the overseer of your very own vault, turning the desolate conditions of post-apocalypse into a thriving, self-sufficient, Nuka-cola economy.

It's vastly different from Fallout's first-person shooting. But, standing by the visuals of the ubiquitous Vault Boy, it creates a world that's somehow still familiar for fans of the series. Rebuilding the population from a handful of hopeful survivors, finding their ideal roles is important for the survival of the vault, with deathclaws and roaches threatening the peace.

Crafted with an array of pets and customizations, this free and addictive casual game took on a life of its own, receiving a provisional playscore of 8.67

5. Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far

Nope, it's not that one...yet. But with over 14 years and a hundred different plotlines between them, it can get a little confusing. Luckily for Square Enix and Disney Interactive's groundbreaking crossover, there's The Story So Far, which aimed to give all fans the story recap they all deserved. Riding on the hype of the coming Kingdom Hearts III, this collection puts almost all of the adventures of the beloved key blade wielders into one convenient package.

While there were others before it, and already on the PlayStation, this is the ultimate edition, containing 9 Kingdom Hearts experiences, all remastered to fit the bigger PlayStation 4 format. Available at the price $40, it's a huge bargain for any fans that don't have the previous bundles yet. A great side by side to the massive hype fest that is the third title, the Story So Far gets a provisional playscore of 8.73

4. TerraTech

Making a repeat appearance from our previous PC lists, it looks like Payload Studios' sandbox experience is sadly underrated on the PS4 too. Coming in with plenty of game modes to choose from, TerraTech not only sparks players' creativity with its vast and colorful haven for the imagination, it also rewards the creativity with plenty of action on the sides.

Revolving around the premise of a galactic competition in which you play the side of Earth, TerraTech challenges you to explore the four corners of the planet while protecting them using an army of crazy vehicles. While a little slow on the combat, it does a pretty decent job at satisfying on both ends. What makes it just a tad bit disappointing is the lack of co-op gameplay, for sharing the world with friends.

With hours upon hours of content, it has a provisional playscore of 8.79

3. Electronauts

Forming the perfect marriage of neon lights, electronic music, and VR capabilities, this casual music game will let you unleash your inner DJ. From Virtual Reality studio, Survios, who created highly rated hits like Raw Data, and more recently, Sprint Vector, you know you'll be getting a well-made title. Played on the PS Pro and PSVR, Electronauts fully encapsulates you in their bright world, letting you be the helmeted, vaporwave dancer you dreamed of becoming.

A title that's more for the musically inclined, if you feel a little lost in their world of space DJ-ing, Survios has plenty of specially created youtube tutorials that will get you through the ropes of the game. With remarkable, crisp visuals, and immersive environments, it’s THE go-to interactive musical playground on the VR with a rating of 8.98.

2. BRIKS 2

If you thought wed be done with retro remakes, you'd be kinda right. Because this BRIKS 2 is a new and improved sequel to...well...BRIKS. Describing itself as a classic, retro arcade game packed with cool, animated characters, SMOBILE INC's BRIKS 2 is pretty spartan as modern videogames go. Playing on Taito's Breakout-inspired Arkanoid games, you basically ricochet a ball into an arena, making sure to watch out for those precious powerups.

The same goes for BRIKS 2, with its collection of powerups that either add more balls into the mix, make them blaze through bricks, or let your paddles shoot back. What’s truly mind-boggling though is their thematic arenas and backdrops that range from sexy anime characters, dragon fights, to...just the utterly bizarre. No judgment on whoever rated the games, though, but it definitely earned its place with a score of 9.02.

1. Knockout League

Grab Games' boxing game is just the knockout title you didn't think you need. While there are plenty of boxing simulators out there, offering mind-blowing graphics and deep career options, nothing quite beats the first-hand experience that Knockout League provides. Played on the PSVR, it might not have the most convincing visuals but it does amp up the boxing immersion as it lets you train for each fight like you would in real life.

Like the Wii Fit days, you're in for one hell of a workout if your jabs and hooks hope to stand against their quirky bosses. You can even translate it to real-life speed, power, and endurance with their heavy bag DLC. Fun, cheap, and with the added benefit of a workout, it's the PS4's most underrated game with a provisional playscore of 9.09.

Ranking the 10 under-appreciated PlayStation 4 video games released in 2018; these are PS4 titles that didn't receive as much attention as they deserve.
