  • Wolfenstein II: The New Order is almost great but is held back by a number of issues. A few design choices Machine Games made far too often took me out of the game and frustrated me to no end. For such a great feeling game, the lack of damage indicators to and from enemies made the game feel off far too many times.

  • More than just an impressive port of an excellent game, the Switch version of Wolfenstein II is a statement that anything is possible in that little console if you put enough effort and care into your project. Despite its impressive performance and despite how fun it is blowing up nazi brains on-the-go, I wouldn’t recommend making this port your main version of Wolfenstein II, however. If you’ve never played the game before, check out the PC or console versions instead. The Switch version is great but it’s clearly inferior to the others: grab it if you really want to have an extra copy of this excellent shooter on-the-go.

  • Despite its shortcomings, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is a great playthrough. Specifically, I think it caters to a group of gamers that, until last year, were really missing out on the mobile platform. It demonstrates the potential of the Nintendo Switch as a serious FPS console while still offering the mobility and freedom that Nintendo strives to obtain.

  • Wolfenstein II for the Nintendo Switch is action-packed and full of awesome Nazi killing. But a few things hold the game back from reaching its full potential on the latest Nintendo platform, which makes it a little more ideal to play the game on other supported consoles if you have them available.

So, although this game is worthy of a good score, I cannot recommend this version to anyone who owns a PC or other console, as having it playable on the go is not worth the premium it costs to do so. However, if the Switch is the only console you own and you have been waiting for the port to arrive, then go ahead and grab it. It’s one helluva great game and, quite honestly, a miracle of coding.

  • Shed some blood, save the world. It’s a long hard road but the journey is incredible and fun, while the big advantage here is being able to take the slaughter on the go. It isn’t the best version visibly, but for Switch owners who haven’t experienced the glorious bullet-bath, it’s a pure thrill.

  • Serious props should go to Panic Button, by the way. It’s almost surreal to realize you’re essentially playing a AAA game on a console that is a step behind in processing power. Panic Button’s efforts really can’t go unappreciated here, as they have shown multiple times now that they are essentially modern-day wizards, cramming such visually demanding games into a portable console without too major of a step-down.

  • Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is possibly the best shooter campaign available on the Nintendo Switch, with some impressive graphics. The image can be occasionally blurry, and the game definitely runs better elsewhere, but this is a great example of technical wizardry on the behalf of Panic Button, not to mention a brilliant shooter for all Nintendo Switch owners to enjoy.

  • Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is yet another solid port by the people over at Panic Button and it really is excellent what they are doing. It allows Nintendo gamers to experience these types of games which have, in truth, been missing for such a long time. It suffers slightly in handheld mode which is one of the main selling points of this version. Overall, it’s a brilliant FPS that deserves its place on the Switch and one that I urge fans of the genre shouldn’t miss out on.

  • While its graphical downgrade is hard to miss, that doesn’t detract from the fact that this is the best single-player FPS experience you can have on Switch right now. The lack of a multiplayer mode (the versions on other consoles didn’t have one either, so don’t worry about being short-changed) still grates, but with its brilliantly-written story and intense action, not even 2017’s DOOM port can stand up to B.J.’s latest war on the Reich.

About the game

Your assassination of Nazi General Deathshead was a short-lived victory. Despite the setback, the Nazis maintain their stranglehold on the world. You are BJ Blazkowicz, aka “Terror-Billy,” member of the Resistance, scourge of the Nazi empire, and humanity’s last hope for liberty. Only you have the guts, guns, and gumption to return stateside, kill every Nazi in sight, and spark the second American Revolution.
