Trails from Zero is a wonderful introduction to Crosbell and the charming members of the SSS, expertly ported to PC with all the bells and whistles one would expect from a modern release. It’s a great sign of things to come for the sequel and an easy recommendation to all RPG fans.

  • Despite a handful of shortcomings, Trails from Zero has aged gracefully, although it would appear that the PC version is the definitive one as it does come with some additional options that the Switch and PS4 ports lack. But even if you’re limited to either one of those platforms, you’ll still find a fantastic JRPG here with a gripping story, an amazing cast, and solid -if somewhat dated- gameplay.

  • As expected, The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero is a wonderful game. The story it tells, the world it’s set in, and the characters that you play couldn’t have been executed much better. Much like most of the other entries in the Kiseki series, Zero is a love letter to gamers who want to immerse themselves in a brilliant world.

  • Trails of Zero doesn’t really look like it’s seen that many improvements with the jump to the PS4. It’s a bit embarrassing too because there are several moments where characters will stop to take in the majesty of the world around them.

  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero is an RPG well worth the time of fans of its series and newcomers alike. A great cast of characters and an interesting story, along with a ton of quality of life improvements, make this still feel as modern as anything coming out today.

  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero is potentially the best and easiest starting point currently for players to easily jump into this behemoth of a series. With this release, it is the easiest of the games to play while spoiling the least amount of events from other games and also having a solid and slightly more modern feel to it.

  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero is a very good one. It’s perfectly sized for the Nintendo Switch, and it provided me with an intricate but light adventure that served as a perfect dropoff from the epic scale of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which I’d completed just before starting this one.

  • Trails from Zero is kind of a miracle in its own right, the fact that we got a Western release after so many years, and that Trails from Azure is right around the corner, still feels surreal. But, for all its strengths, this is still a game from more than a decade ago, that was originally designed for the PSP.

  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero is a stand-out RPG. Narrowing the focus of its story to one state, and honing in on a smaller cast of characters, makes for a fantastic and engrossing adventure that is about both intimate relationships and huge, secretive scandals.

  • This is a classic Falcom RPG — an engrossing, crime-fighting adventure through one of the property's greatest settings. The experience as a whole does get bogged down in tedious side content and some poorly aged design, but fantastic characters and fascinating story beats hold everything together.

About the game

Experience Crossbell in this exciting chapter from the renowned The Legend of Heroes series! The site of an ongoing territorial struggle between the Erebonian Empire and the Republic of Calvard, Crossbell has developed into a prosperous city-state and one of the continent’s leading economic centers. After three years away from his hometown, Lloyd Bannings returns in order to follow his late brother's footsteps and join the Crossbell Police Department. However, when he arrives, he finds he's been assigned to the Special Support Section, a new division that handles odd jobs and minor requests. He meets his new teammates, which include Elie MacDowell, the granddaughter of the city's mayor; Randy Orlando, a womanizing ex-soldier; and Tio Plato, a young tech genius. Though their department is mocked by the media and looked down on by the rest of the CPD, Lloyd and his friends continue to fight to make their city a better place. As they do, however, they slowly come face-to-face with the criminal corruption gripping their city. Little do they know just how deep the shadows of Crossbell City go...
