  • Despite entering its seventh year, Fortnite is still very popular. While nostalgia is strong in the community, it has received many quality-of-life updates that have attracted millions of new players. Fortnite does have flaws that need to be fixed, but it's still head and shoulders above its competitors and is fun to play.

  • Fortnite isn’t the same game it was on release. It’s not even the same game it was right before Christmas. Epic is leading the industry forward with Fortnite, and while the game can be frustrating at times due to the random nature of loot drops or players simply being better than you, it’s utterly foolish to claim that Fortnite isn’t an incredible game. If you overexerted yourself with Fortnite last year and it grew stale, hop back on and try it out again. You may be pleasantly surprised.

  • Fortnite is an ever-shifting entity, but strong footing has solidified it as a verified phenomenon with fast, fun gameplay and ubiquitous reach. Anyone can play it and have a great time, and although Save the World might get grindy and shotgun climb-and-dives might get a little tiresome, there’s real magic here along with the promise of more in the months and years to come.

  • I don’t think anyone will actually need to read a review in order to be convinced to download Fortnite on the Switch. Its visuals are clearly inferior and it doesn’t run at the best of framerates, but this is the best handheld rendition of Fortnite you’ll ever find. Epic Games has done a great job porting the hit title to Nintendo’s new hardware and despite all of its flaws, I can clearly see this becoming one of the flagship titles for the console.

  • One thing I really liked about the iOS version was that because I occasionally played on transport and didn’t have access to headphones, Epic thought of a solution when you can’t hear opponents.Footstep and gunfire icons appear in the middle of the screen, so you have a rough idea of where your enemies are coming from, but if you’re inattentive, then you’ll be dead long before they can be of use.

  • Let’s face it – this is probably sitting on your Switch dashboard already, and there it should stay. Epic has delivered the full fat Fortnite: Battle Royale experience on the ‘homeheld’. The omission of Save the World is disappointing, and you’re sure to notice the framerate difference if you’re coming from other consoles, but performance-wise, it’s steady and perfectly playable.

  • Another bit that helps make Fornite's battle royale mode more enjoyable is that it isn't trying to constantly steer you into the act of gambling. There are no loot chests at the moment in the free battle royale mode, just a straight cosmetic shop, and it's further supported by a great (actual season) season pass concept that I've talked about at length in the past that grants you more goodies for leveling up during normal play.

  • Fortnite suffocates what could be an incredible tower defense game beneath the some of the most tangential, egregious, impersonal progression systems we’ve seen.

  • Closing pun aside, Fortnite is an enjoyable zombie survival and crafting romp that insists on replaying the same notes ad nauseum. Unless you've got a squad ready to take on The Storm, Fortnite rapidly becomes a lonesome and trivial experience.

  • Fortnite is still in Early Access but I have to say that it has more polish than a lot of games that have officially released. The balanced mix of combat, exploration, construction, and cooperation all work together to create a really enjoyable experience. If you don’t mind throwing down for an Early Access title I highly recommend picking up Fortnite which is available now.
