  • Perhaps the best comment that you could make about Zeno Clash is that it is a unique experience. You get plenty weirded out for the cut-rate Steam price of $20. This is no small feat in today's copycat gaming world, although the game relies too much on strangeness and not enough on diverse, interesting fighting action to be more than a briefly engaging curiosity.

  • Zeno Clash comes from ACE Team in Santiago, Chile, an indie studio founded by three brothers which has made an awfully impressive showing in Zeno Clash with its limited resources. If you're a fan of first-person action and truly offbeat, unpredictable games, head to your nearest Steam client and check this one out. I'd love to see what ACE Team can do with a bigger budget next time around.

It's safe to say that Zeno Clash wouldn't work as a big budget game from an established studio; it's far too different from convention, which would mean it's far too risky a project for them. But it's a perfect example of how some of the best and most original ideas are coming out of independent teams that have talent and passion and can take risk because they're not gambling with tens of millions of dollars. Zeno Clash sticks with you long after you play it, and that's a compliment many games aspire to have associated with them.

  • A combination of exciting, refreshing gameplay and the incredibly outlandish setting and characters really make Zeno Clash a standout game. It has all the style and pizzazz of a big budget production, but it's far more disturbing and creative than you're average release. Even with a story that never fully blossoms into something great and a few other limitations that arise, there's a lot to love about this unsettling adventure.

  • Overall Zeno Clash is a solid, enjoyable game that has a few noticeable flaws that don’t significantly detract from the overall experience. While I would have liked to see a bit more emphasis on the melee combat and less on shooting, I think you’ll still find that most battles give you a bit of a rush and are enjoyable to play, particularly the unique boss battles. I predict that anyone who preordered this game will be happy with their purchase, and if you haven’t picked it up yet, I would strongly consider it.

  • Currently available on Steam for the sum of £11.24/$14.99/€11.99 I'd say it's worth it's price. It deserves to be played, if only for it's first person brawling nature and it's fantastic visual style. Fully recommended to anyone wanting to try something different to today's flood of FPS'.

  • Overall, this game is phenomenal. There are very few games that I can say I simply enjoyed it so much I want to play it over and over again. There are really no major issues to this game other than Zeno Clash's story being only about 6 - 7 hours long plus the time that it takes you to run through the Challenge Towers until you get bored of it. The only thing missing that would make this game nearly perfect would be a multiplayer mode.

  • It's easy to wonder if the game could have been something grander, given the time and development resources, a sprawling open-world quester, a quirky first person adventure, even a multiplayer fighter. As it is, Zeno Clash remains a fantastically involving and solid fighting game, enhanced by being set in one of the most imaginative and beautiful universes in the medium.

About the game

Zeno Clash is an action game with a strong focus on melee combat set in a punk fantasy world. Featuring up-close and brutal combat in a first-person perspective, the game is played in battle scenarios where the adversaries are always dangerously close and the use of exotic firearms and artifacts is a commodity. The game features a new close combat mechanic designed as a deviation from traditional shooting in the FPS genre.
