- It may revolve around the supernatural, but its emphasis on daily life and the excitement of childhood instills it with a potent charm that should endear it to players young and old. Yo-Kai Watch may lack the epic plot and deep, challenging combat system of other RPGs, but its cheerful spirit and culturally infused world make it one of the most joyful experiences on 3DS.
Dermot Creegan · Nov 19, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - The rise of Yo-Kai Watch in Japan has come rather quickly and the series definitely has a chance to make an impact in the US as well, largely due to the unique characters and likable world that kids will love. The mostly luck-based Yo-Kai capturing and hands-off battle style could certainly use some work, but there is no doubt that Yo-Kai Watch is a solid blueprint for the future of this already ongoing franchise.
Dean James · Nov 16, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Yo-Kai Watch is almost a great game. In fact, in many ways it eclipses the effort GameFreak has put into Pokémon over the years, both in production and creativity. That alone should be commended. Unfortunately, there are a few oversights and missteps that ultimately detract from enjoying the many, many things Yo-Kai Watch does so well.
Dave Letcavage · Nov 11, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Yo-Kai Watch is a kid-oriented, lighthearted game packed with quirky characters, secret areas to explore, and bizarre Yo-Kai to befriend. The unwieldy process of recruiting Yo-Kai to your team and an incredibly unhelpful map bog the side content down a bit, but the battling system is unique and fun and there’s always more to discover.
Emma Schaefer · Nov 10, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - While it's not Pokemon-killer, Yo-kai Watch delivers a delightfully simple and engaging experience that'll keep you coming back time and again.
Ashley Reed · Nov 09, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Aside from a few clumsy design choices, mostly regarding side mission requirements and scrounging around awkwardly for the few required missions, Yo-Kai Watch is a charming gem that’s only helping bolster the claim that fun and full RPG experiences are only getting better on portable hardware.
Kevin Schaller · Nov 05, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Yo-Kai Watch is a good variation on the monster collection genre of RPGs that will definitely please fans and earn a few new fans, but has just enough tiresome elements to keep it from being great. Despite it all, it's a hard game not to recommend. Cheery, colorful, and interesting, it's an easy pick for anyone who likes RPGs and Saturday morning cartoons.
Taylor Hidalgo · Nov 05, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Yo-Kai Watch offers a simple but clean look, and my immediate response to it was one of envy. I’m glad that a game exists that can offer a feeling of openness and grandeur…but I really want it to be Pokemon that does this. One of the most compelling features of Yo-Kai Watch is simply running around and looking for stuff. Cities feel big and forests feel dense.
Royce Dean · Nov 04, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - As an RPG, Yo-Kai Watch mostly fumbles its battle system and creates a relatively passive experience. However, I adored exploring every corner of its compelling world. The low difficulty ultimately works in its favor — I was always eager to move on to the next charming character or compelling idea. Yo-Kai Watch is a “kids’ game” that doesn’t talk down to or sugarcoat darker themes for kids, and I appreciated not being talked down to either.
Kallie Plagge · Nov 04, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Yo-kai Watch is driven by the personalities of its Yo-kai, and it's easy to get wrapped up in training your Yo-kai to your specific tastes and tackling tougher demons. The writing is delightful, combat is unique and entertaining, and even though the map leaves much to be desired it's fun to follow along with the story looking for the paranormal. Although navigating the world can be tedious and frustrating, the allure of building a diverse team of exotic Yo-kai pushes your exploration forward.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
The YO-KAI WATCH game is about hundreds of sometimes cute, sometimes spooky, and usually mischievous Yo-kai that inhabit our world. Yo-kai are not ghosts, monsters or creatures. Yo-kai are, quite simply, Yo-kai. They cannot be seen by the human eye, but they are everywhere. Whether born from the soul of a deceased human, or an everyday object discovering its higher purpose, their personalities are distinctly humanlike.
