  • Despite all of its flaws, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is still a very enjoyable experience. The battle system is as fun as ever, and you will still get that satisfaction from mastering the system and taking down a tough foe. The team at Monolith Soft also stay in top form when it comes to integrating gameplay and world-building. That’s what makes it a shame that XC2’s world and characters are not as robust as in previous titles.

  • Xenoblade 2 frustrates me because it is a great game that should have been an amazing one. I have some hope that as time goes on the developers will make changes that improve it for the better, but until then it’s only an RPG that I can recommend to those that are willing to give it the time and pace that it demands. It’s a disappointing follow-up to one of the best JRPGs of all time, but taken as its own beast Xenoblade 2 is a tale worth experiencing.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 doesn’t captivate like its predecessor namely due to a messy learning curve and a story that doesn’t quite draw you in as well. But from a JRPG standpoint, it’s still a win for series fans and Nintendo Switch owners.

It’s been an extremely long time since I’ve played an RPG that’s scratched an adventure itch in a classic sense. Even the other two Chronicles games didn’t capture me the same way this one does. It could be the setup, the character, the world, or some odd combination of a world in the clouds, but regardless it works for me. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 feels like a classic RPG from days past, when the original PlayStation seemed to spew one out every other week, and that’s a good thing.

  • So, at the end of the fight, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 does come away with a victory. It chained from fire to water to stone to ice. It delivered some flashy combos. Some levels went up. But it doesn’t do so particularly gracefully. Xenoblade Chronicles‘s story was exceedingly simple at the outset, but was driven along by endearing and human characters. Xenobalde Chronicles 2, less so. Its world is captivating, but the reasons to explore it are shoddy. It’s gameplay is a ton of fun, but with some accessibility issues. It feels like parts of this thing had too many hands in the pot. As a result, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 feels a bit too scattered for its own good, but is still a damn enjoyable and enormous adventure to be had by anyone who owns a Switch.

  • Despite so many missteps, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 remains an enticing experience. It’s on the same level as the Tales of and Atelier series, and actually reminiscent of Dark Cloud in spots. Even with a phenomenal world, though, the story feels boilerplate and can be downright frustrating at times, having nonsensical, poorly-established events.

  • As a standalone title in the Xenoblade series, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 gets a very high recommendation from us to both fans of the series and newbies alike—it’s the perfect game to sink way too much time into during the breaks of the holiday season.

  • If you're an RPG enthusiast, an anime connoisseur, or a fan of the series, and you own a Nintendo Switch, you need this game in your library. There's a ton of value to be found here, both in the number of hours you'll get out of this title and in the deep RPG mechanics buried within. You won't regret picking up this gem of a game.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a game that holds nothing back in everything it does. Its world is vast and beautiful, its story complex and layered, its combat intricate and addictive. It is a game that is wildly ambitious in more ways than one, and it is never afraid to work toward those lofty ambitious. Even though 2017 has been saturated by countless unforgettable milestone release, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 still manages to stand out as one of the best games of the year.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a game that takes time to grow. People who are patient and invest in the characters, their growth, and the world will be rewarded with a story that eventually goes to some interesting places, people who will be ready to handle any challenge, and a place with lots of areas to uncover.
