  • Thanks to Wingspan's asymmetry and extensive deck, brimming with titillating bird powers, no two games are the same. There's heaps of replayability, and plenty of opportunity for varied strategies to arise. It takes a moment to learn, but will surprise you every time you play and leave you wanting more.

  • Wingspan: The Board Game is a digital adaptation of a strategic tabletop game about expanding a nature reserve with birds of different rarities – from common low-scoring finches to rare eagles.

  • It is interesting that Wingspan can detect a controller and it notified me when my controller was disconnected, but will not actually let me use the controller in-game. There is partial keyboard support with WASD and enter/escape working for some things in-game.

  • Wingspan is a calm, thought-provoking bird-watching game with fun visuals and sounds and simple controls.

  • Although the Switch version of Wingspan has a couple of flaws and doesn’t quite live up to the real deal, you’re still looking at a good adaptation of a fantastic board game. As soon as you make the click with the core mechanics, you’ll be drawn into the game. The strategic depth means no two games will be the same, and the asynchronous online mode means you’ll be able to get a game in no matter how busy your schedule is. Add the gorgeous visuals and relaxing music and you’ve got a game that surpasses its flaws to deliver an experience well worth getting into.

  • Even with that in mind we’re still not sure Wingspan needed a digital gaming iteration, and if you can get your hands on the physical version we’d recommend that as a first resort – even if it is triple the price. If not then this a more than serviceable alternative.

  • Wingspan is a fine adaption of the physical board game and a much cheaper way of playing it at that. Features like online cross-play, local play and well-explained tutorials make this one of the better board game adaptions to hit the console and hopefully allows Wingspan to reach a much-deserved wider audience in the video gaming world.

  • Wingspan is a strong card game for those with the patience to learn how it works. It's fun, compulsive and can sometimes truly surprise you with stacked effects and their outcomes. Its translation to the Switch is a little... difficult, but certainly not for want of trying.

  • That said, if the Switch is the only choice you have, it's not the worst option. This is perfectly playable and works fine. But if you can somehow play this in person with your small group of socially distanced friends or on your PC while talking through Discord, then that would be the optimal way to experience this lovely little game.

  • While I might recommend the board game over the video game overall, the video game is a worthy complement. It’s also a good local and online multiplayer experience (especially with crossplay with the Steam version), which gives Wingspan an added benefit in 2020. No matter what year it is, Wingspan is a remarkable adaptation of a tabletop game that is certainly one of the best of its kind on Switch.
