  • WildStar is a very traditional MMO, and it doesn't attempt to hide that fact. As someone who enjoys both the new- and old-school means of thought, I found WildStar to be both a solid foundation of tried-and-true methods and an all-too familiar retread. If you've finally grown tired of WoW and want another hardcore MMO, this is it -- but everyone else may want to wait for a free trial period.

  • It's slow to start, but when WildStar finally kicks into high gear it throws a ton of content at you. Telegraphs make combat interesting and complex, some of the classes provide unique play experiences, and the Path system adds flavor to your overall quest. PVE, PVP, Housing, Crafting, Dunegeons, and Raids; if you want to do it, it's probably in here somewhere. Wildstar isn't perfect, but it's a great launch for an MMORPG.

  • I've done a lot of this before, but here I can do it faster, more polished and with more expected of me. That's enough to keep me happy for now.

  • WildStar has been an ambitious undertaking from the start. Carbine could have easily bit off more than they could chew, and yet here we are watching its community grow, its fans take stride, and its live experience evolve. There have been very few bumps in the road, at least from our armchair vantage point, and we can only hope Nexus lives a very long and prosperous life.

  • With a steady stream of content planned, a solid framework for housing, and a commitment to hardcore seriousness and silly humor, WildStar is more than the sum of its parts, and every MMO player should at least give a fair shake.

Raids, PvP, housing, dungeons and so on may all be familiar concepts, but it’s been a long time since they’ve been presented this comprehensively, and with this much charm, on day one.

WildStar is very much a child of the modern MMORPG in foundation and mechanics. Yet it builds upon its many clear influences, improving on the original formula in all but a few areas, and is at its best when guided by its fantastic personality and creative freedom.

  • More than likely, I'll find more things to collect, more quests to take, and more outposts promising refuge. WildStar inspires compulsion, laying down trails of tasty candies that lead to even more candy trails, and in doing so, makes the case that "fun" can be a fine cornerstone around which to construct a massive adventure.

  • Wildstar’s greatest success is its combat. Combat in MMORPGs has always been a killer for me, and is the main reason I just can’t stick with them. Wildstar’s combat is much more dynamic. For starters, you can see the range of your enemies’ attacks telegraphed in red on the ground. This gives you the opportunity to dodge out of the way, or counter attack. The addition of telegraphing and dodging makes Wildstar’s combat truly thrilling.

  • Had the game been slowly evolved into its current form, it probably would have been better, but there's just no way that you can expect a developer to nail all of these new gameplay mechanics on the first try. If EA sticks with this direction for its upcoming C&C games, we'll be excited to see what they can do because with a little practice and a some refinement this could have been a good game.
