- Whispering Willows is a horror action-adventure game in which we explore a spooky mansion while learning its dark secrets and desperately trying to stay alive.
Alex Sem · Sep 29, 2021 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Other areas of praise include, Whispering Willows‘ puzzles are never too challenging and the musical soundtrack is haunting and eerie at times which is a perfect fit for the atmosphere of the game. The platforming moments are a nice change of pace without calling for the need for trigger-happy button bashing and incredible amounts of fine-tuned timing!
Scott Jeslis · Oct 03, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The game can be finished in about 3 hours, leaving a void that could have possibly been filled with deeper puzzles, deeper dialogues with the ghosts, and simply more to experience overall. What lies in this shallow grave may still be enjoyable, but let's hope a second effort comes that digs deeper.
Tim Latshaw · Oct 15, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Whispering Willows definitely had a lot of potential. If the gameplay were given a little more attention, and the content bulked up a little (I finished the entire game in a little more than three hours), it would have entered the annals of excellent indie games. However, I still have hope for Night Light Interactive. After all, it’s only their first game. Maybe their next title will have corrected the mistakes of the first.
Sharang Biswas · Oct 12, 2015 Reviewed on AndRead full review - Whispering Willows isn’t a perfect adventure game, but neither is it a waste of time. Its audio is particularly well done, and delivers some truly spooky moments (wear a decent pair of headphones and drink it all in). Just book yourself a little extra time when you want to play the game. Elena isn’t in a rush to get anywhere.
Nadia Oxford · Sep 02, 2015 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Whispering Willows is an interesting adventure game that is over much too quickly. The story takes some time to get going, and the pacing is a bit slow throughout. Just as things start to get exciting, the end credits are soon rolling. The game mainly falls flat and never achieves to be anything more than a pleasant ghost story.
Brad Gruetzmacher · Jul 21, 2015 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Overall, Whispering Willows is worth a go, especially for those who enjoy a slow, story-driven adventure. Despite its ease and short gameplay time, Whispering Willows has a good story to tell. The emphasis on puzzle and exploration coupled with the 2D side-scrolling presentation is reminiscent of traditional adventure games of the 90s; it’s just a shame that the puzzles in this one don’t offer much in the way of a challenge.
Kim · Jul 10, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - At the end of the day the question is: Would I recommend this game? I would have to say no. If you like puzzle or adventure games, Whispering Willows won’t have anything new to offer you. Its lack of critical thinking puzzles, basic mechanics, and inability get you invested in the story from the beginning make it a game hard to recommend.
Charles Adams · Jul 07, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It is a minor miracle that Whispering Willows can induce the occasional bout of goosebumps. The crudely drawn cutscenes that frame the story leave a disconcerting first impression. At least this low-budget introduction is brief, transitioning to gameplay where the hand-drawn animation of Elena is well-conceived.
Miguel Concepcion · Jul 06, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Whispering Willows is not without its strengths - it sounds great, is (for the most part) visually interesting, and there are a lot of good story ideas and potentially interesting puzzle concepts in play. However, thanks largely to a woefully short campaign and a lack of truly challenging puzzles, it ultimately doesn’t manage to create a particularly fulfilling experience.
