  • Vernal Edge balances the feel of old-school Metroidvanias while adding quality-of-life features you’ll miss when playing other games in the genre. Platforming has the right amount of difficulty, and there’s enough variety in combat to keep you coming back for more – even if that means fighting nearly identical enemies. The story won’t blow you away, though it’s passable and doesn’t take away from the action.

  • Vernal Edge is a thrilling character action game mixed with an intricate, connected world that’s a joy to explore. The story may not be anything to write home about, but the combat and platforming more than make up for that.

  • This is an interesting, creative Metroid-like that actually tries to do its own thing in a lot of ways. Plus, mastering the combat is quite rewarding, even if you’ll be fighting the same handful of foes time and again.

  • Vernal Edge is a fantastic Metroidvania, with silky smooth combat, great movement abilities, and gorgeous pixel graphics. The freedom you have to explore this massive floating universe is really refreshing, even if the lack of direction can get frustrating. With satisfying upgrades, varied gameplay, and a host of interesting ideas, Vernal Edge isn’t one to sleep on.

  • The story is engaging, and it’s made even more engaging because of the very strong character of Vernal. There are countless main characters in video games who start off as unsure, lacking confidence in themselves, and who generally feel like they aren’t good enough: it’s been done.
