  • While Velocity 2X deserves merit for blending two different forms of gameplay into one hefty treat, 2X quickly becomes bland after the course of only a few minutes. Yes, you are presented with additional content, but only one of these added pieces of content is enjoyable out of the bunch. The monotony will leave you uninspired, and it’s hard to dedicate time to Velocity 2X when there are better space-shooters out there for the Nintendo Switch.

  • Velocity 2X is a game I've played for the first time in 2018, and I'm sort of ashamed. This is one of the finest action games I've played in a while, and every individual piece about it works. Now to be totally clear, I do think it requires a certain mindset to love this game. The one that wants to keep pushing onwards and improving at every step.

  • Velocity 2X may be four-years-old at this point, but that doesn’t mean that the gameplay has passed its sell-by date. There’s a certain addictive quality to this ultra-fast reaction-based puzzle blaster that can risk making you feel useless at first until something in your brain finally clicks into beast mode. During the time that I spent with the game my fingers slipped, my brain momentarily lapsed, I swore a lot and blamed my age. However, once I did finally submit to the cockpit’s demands, it didn’t take long until I felt like a Jedi on a joyride.

  • In an age where indie titles are becoming increasingly more reliant on procedural generation to do all the heavy lifting, it can be immensely satisfying to play a game that is tailor made for one specific experience. Velocity 2X excels in this regard, offering up an immaculately designed, endlessly replayable arcade experience that shows just how engaging twitch gameplay can be. We would give Velocity 2X a high recommendation, especially to anybody who’s looking for a great pick up and play arcade game for their Switch; this is one you definitely don’t want to miss out on.

Velocity 2X is a fast-paced game that trips over its own complex mechanics at times; especially when trying to achieve higher scores. Still players can still enjoy the entire game without fear of having to perfect each level. Anyone who enjoys twitch-based arcade titles that focus on speed as opposed to methodical play. Still it is hard to argue how much fun can be had with this arcade-style title.

  • By turns breathless, brilliant and fist-chewingly demanding, Velocity 2X might allow its tempo to drop too often, but it approaches excellence often enough to recommend - you might just fall in love.

  • Velocity 2X has quite a bit to offer in terms of fun, challenging gameplay, but an at times clumsy control scheme, forgettable side-content, and anti-climactic finale spell the difference between truly great and pretty good.

  • Velocity 2X is the type of game that’s extremely difficult to put down once you start. There’s little if anything to complain about. Velocity 2X hits the old school game play feel just right, the graphics are stylish and the sound track fits perfectly. There’s plenty of value in its $20 price tag. If you’re a subscriber to PS+ it gets even better because this month the game is free. In fact, I’d think you’re a bit crazy if you’re on PS+ and don’t get this game as part of your instant collection.

  • Velocity 2X is filled with little extras, from a collectible series of mini-game puzzles to encyclopedic notes on the game’s story and technology. ...Futurlab’s stellar game is challenging and unusual, and its complex controls are demanding. For that reason, Velocity 2X may not fascinate novice gamers, but experienced players will delight at its varied gameplay, spare design aesthetic, and daring speed.

Velocity X2 has a lot going for it. It still has that addicting game play, and it’s still a fast game that is easy to pick up and play. The new mechanics are interesting, and even when I found them a little daunting at times, I still had a blast with the overall game play. It’s fast, fun, and still addicting.

    About the game

Abducted by a race of hostile aliens, Lt. Kai Tana must use her quick reflexes and the teleporting power of the Quarp Jet to free her fellow prisoners and find a way home. Swapping back and forth between top-down vertical shoot ‘em up and side-scrolling action platformer, Velocity 2X blends two unique styles of fast-paced, frenetic gameplay into one incredible experience.
