  • While the replay value falls short once you’ve beaten the game, Trine 2: Complete Story offers plenty of challenging content to keep you busy for a while.

  • Trine 2: Complete Story is a grand embellishment of one of the most charming and accomplished adventure platformers in recent years. Bolstered by a wealth of additional content, multiplayer modes and the gorgeous 1080p/60 fps veneer that PlayStation 4 allows, this should be the next game to find a home on your PlayStation 4.

  • Trine 2: Complete Story is an impressive realisation of a magical and whimsical tale that you can see and play. The plot is innocent fun; the graphics, colourful environments, and audio are unbelievably captivating; and the gameplay, while falling short in minor areas, shines with excellent puzzles and platforming. Simply put, it's an exemplary indie game that has the makings of a blockbuster title – and that is no fairy tale.

  • There’s a strong variety of unique puzzles, and with the gorgeous world that can be taken-in, Trine 2 ends up being a luscious adventure. ...Unfortunately, there’s not a lot here to convince those who have ventured through the journey once already. Even with the stronger graphical performance bringing console players closer to a high-end PC experience, the new touchpad functionality isn’t well utilized. Regardless, Trine 2: Complete Story remains a strong action-platformer capable of wowing newcomers.

  • Simply put, Frozenbyte puts some big name developers to shame when it comes to making a competent port. Trine 2: Director’s Cut adds more features, superior touch screen controls, and loads more content than any other console version available. The artwork will pleasantly surprise you and force you to look up at your tv constantly.

  • With challenging puzzles, beautiful visuals, the inclusion of previously released DLC , a bonus Wii U level, and local/online play, Trine 2: The Director’s Cut is well worth the purchase price. This downloadable title is easily one of the best games available on the Wii U. Even if you own it on another platform you really shouldn’t miss this experience on Nintendo’s newest console.

  • Trine 2 is elevated by its art design, which is second to none. But as enchanting as its visuals are, they aren’t enough to imbue the game’s puzzles with magic. This is still an adventure worth embarking on just to take in all the stunning sights, but it’s unfortunate that its beauty doesn’t run deeper.

  • Aesthetically speaking, Trine 2: Director’s Cut borders on perfection and deserves nothing less than to be framed and mounted, but the unfortunate news is that this quality does not permeate the game as a whole. Uncomfortable controls and puzzles that don’t actually adhere to sensible solutions, but instead allow you to force your own answer on them, mar the experience and slow the game down in a significant way.

Trine 2 throws players into a dazzling fantasy world and gives them three fun characters – tools, really – with which to save it. It's delightfully open-ended, from how you solve problems to whether or not you go it alone. Fans of puzzle games will not be disappointed.

  • Trine 2 should not be ignored, and we hope it doesn’t get such treatment, because it’s gorgeous, charming, and incredibly fun. It’s not a huge game, but then at a $14.99 asking price it’s absolutely worth the purchase. It doesn’t demand a massively powerful PC, but even then you can just wait a couple weeks for the console version and find out why everyone was talking about the original when it came out two years ago.

    About the game

A puzzle platform video game, requiring the player to use the skills of the three characters, Amadeus the wizard, Zoya the thief, and Pontius the knight, to navigate each game level. As with the first game, the mystical "Trine" has bound the three characters together into one common entity, and thus the player controls only one character which can be switched to the other two at any time. Each of the characters has unique abilities: Amadeus can use magic to grab onto certain objects in the game world, and create boxes and planks to be used to get around; Zoya can strike at objects with her arrows, and grapple onto certain surfaces; and Pontius is strong in combat against foes, can bash apart walls, and deflect projectiles with his shield.
