- While some of its changes are more impactful than others, most of what is on offer in the Dynasties update for Total War: Pharaoh are net positives. The additions and tweaks bring some much needed depth to the game’s campaigns and help keep things fresh on subsequent playthroughs. However, it does not address some of the core issues that longtime fans have voiced and will likely not be enough to bring them back to the Bronze Age despite it being free.

The size, scale and themes feel much more like Total War than anything with muskets or wyverns. But this isn’t a backwards looking nostalgia project. Pharaoh: Total War Dynasties incorporates good ideas from nearly every entry in the series. I am more excited by the future of the Total War series than I have been for a while.

Yet, as it is, Pharaoh falls very short of the legacy of the series and will likely disappoint many as it disappointed me.

En plus d'être très agréable visuellement, il a le luxe d'offrir de nombreuses nouveautés en termes de gameplay, qui s'intègrent parfaitement dans le cadre de l'Égypte Antique. Ce serait dommage de passer à côté si l'on aime ne serait-ce qu'un peu la stratégie.

Its refined focus on a smaller period of history has allowed for experimentation elsewhere, with dynamic weather and terrain, resource generation on the campaign map, and a wave-based invasion system with the Sea Peoples that constantly keeps you guessing. I hope that some of these mechanics can be taken and expanded on for future, main series releases for Total War.
