- In conclusion, Tormented Souls is a hidden gem severely dirtied by horrific crashes. They nullify any fun I could have had by having the prospect of retreading sections hanging over my head. The stress I felt was no longer because of genuine scares; instead, it was because of the technical problems.
FerniWrites · Apr 18, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Tormented Souls remains one of the few successful attempts at recreating that late 90s survival horror vibe. Cinematic camera movements and a beautiful but eerie atmosphere (not to mention nightmarish monsters) lends some scariness to the game, while terrible voice acting and a strangely bare plot leaves players with more questions than answers by the time the game is over.
Devin Shea · Apr 15, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Still, the fact stands that Tormented Souls is a great survival horror game, and on Switch it’s more impressive than ever. The visuals are good, the puzzle-heavy gameplay remains engaging, and being able to quickly bring up the map makes a world of difference.
Richard Seagrave · Apr 14, 2022 Reviewed onRead full review - Ultimately, although Tormented Souls is a commendable homage to classic survival horror games, its focus on the past is unfortunately its biggest downfall. Advertisements for the game bill it as a "modernisation" of the genre, but the mechanics within feel as archaic as the games it's emulating.
Ollie Reynolds · Apr 13, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Through all that, I found Tormented Souls to be just intriguing enough to be worth checking out if you have the time. It's a lesson in where survival-horror games have come from and what stories can still be told within the genre. With a little more modernization within the combat and cleaner visuals, this probably could have been an underground classic.
Redmond Carolipio · Jan 27, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Overall, Tormented Souls is an extremely atmospheric game that will please the connoisseurs of the survival horror genre, especially if you don’t mind solving puzzles as the game plunges you into its events.
LaSt04Ka · Oct 07, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Tormented Souls is a great addition to your Halloween lineup by appealing to the new generation with good music and good graphics but catering to the older gamers with nostalgic gameplay, storyline and mechanics. It’s not perfect but it’s a good time.
Dev Crowley · Oct 06, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Tormented Souls is a love letter and throwback to the old school survival horror games, warts and all, even including the age-old tank controls found in the games it looks to emulate. Honestly, it does a good job in this, setting the atmosphere, ramping up the stakes and only rarely venturing into the absurd when it comes to puzzle logic.
Chris Wray · Sep 26, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Tormented Souls is a magnificent return to the classic days of 90’s survival horror, bringing in tense atmospheric environments that successfully replicate the good old days of the genre, especially with its excellent usage dynamic camera. The puzzles are great as well. This is one little gem tailor made for us old-school fans of the genre, who were craving for something more akin to the horror we grew up with back in the day.
Kyle Nicol · Sep 17, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Overall, if you want a game that brings back the type of horror that seems to have become lost to time in recent years, Tormented Souls will definitely provide. It’s creepy, it’s dark and it has an enjoyable story within its moody setting. Sure, it essentially rips off the features of the classic experiences, but it also feels like a fresh new experience thanks to a surprisingly enjoyable story that holds its own. If you’re missing an experience that properly gave you a thrill, then Tormented Souls should be able to reintroduce that excitement in your life.
