- It's a simpler action/RPG, and it's good for those who might want to get their feet wet with the genre but don't want to do so with an older game. Genre veterans, on the other hand, might not be too impressed with what they see.
Cody Medellin · Feb 05, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Echtra Games tries to shake up the root of the Torchlight franchise with some interesting side content, but ultimately, the game is weaker because of the simplified restructuring of its existing systems.
Greg Delmage · Jan 15, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Combining dull combat with tedious enemies and a predictable storyline, Torchlight 3 generally falls flat in the long history of fantasy action RPGs. There can be fun here with a group of friends just dipping their toes in the genre, but other than that you’re best suited to spending your time elsewhere.
Kurt John Palomaria · Jan 06, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Overall, Torchlight III isn’t a bad game. However, exploring areas, fighting hordes of enemies, and collecting things to move ahead in the story got monotonous after a while. The glitches didn’t help, either. So, this was just an okay game for me.
Rachel Poli · Nov 12, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Torchlight III is very much a fun entry in the series but as we said in the preview of the game, it feels close to being finished, but not quite completely yet. The game will present you with loads of hours of grinding, creating different builds, building your fort and so on, but it never truly tells you why. For a game such as this, the story value feels flimsy, and while many dungeon crawlers go without deep stories, Torchlight always gave Diablo a run for its money. While this one is fun to play in a group, the single-player value is somewhat dismissible and that’s just a shame.
Ibuki · Nov 12, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Still even with these shortcomings Torchlight III is a solid ARPG that will please anyone who decides to take the plunge. I enjoyed the hours I got from it, and loved playing with friends online. I had a hard time coming back to it regularly like other titles such as Diablo III and Path of Exile, which is not good considering how old those games are.
Ken McKown · Nov 05, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Presumably in the F2P version, it would have been a much bigger feature, both gameplay and monetization wise. Likewise is the Battle Pass that’s now just tacked on and hidden behind a menu as of now. Still, as long as you know what to expect and go in with the right mindset, there’s still so much classic ARPG fun to be had.
Thomas Medina · Nov 04, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Torchlight III is the sort of game that we can only describe as genre filler. It does absolutely everything that you would expect of an ARPG, and it often does these things extremely well, but it also doesn’t do anything particularly interesting or revelatory. Those of you that love a good ARPG will find plenty to love here, then, just don’t come into it expecting to be blown away by anything on offer.
Mitch Vogel · Nov 02, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The post-game content is constantly updated and new legendary gear is being added to the game every week. If you are looking for a game to hold you over until the release of next-gen in a couple of weeks, I would definitely recommend checking out Torchlight 3 for an outrageously fun, hack and slash, dungeon crawler.
Adam Vyfhuis · Oct 29, 2020 Reviewed on PS4 - Just in terms of the big picture of the overall experience Torchlight 3 has sort of a Frankensteined-together feel, lacking in cohesion and polish. Given the presence of not only Diablo on the platform, but other strong contenders like Victor Vran that deliver a more exciting experience, unfortunately this Torchlight entry just fizzles out a bit.
