- The controls, while requiring some time to get used to, are intuitive. The game looks great graphically outside some blemishes when looked at closely. The good overwhelmingly outweighs the bad, making Top Spin 4 the game for the tennis elite
Jason Jasicki · Apr 11, 2011 Reviewed on X360 - The core game itself is the draw, and thanks to a control scheme that delivers enough information to keep every shot interesting while never reneging on the promise of easy-to-play/tough-to-master, Top Spin 4 emerges as an absolutely killer tennis sim and one worthy of being considered one of the deepest and most rewarding seen thus far.
Sam Bishop · Apr 07, 2011 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Top Spin 4 isn't flashy and doesn't come with any gimmicks, but it's an incredibly competent and in-depth tennis sim that the sport's fans would be foolish to pass up. It's more accessible than the previous entry and includes the necessary online functionality to keep you playing for months.
Tom Orry · Apr 06, 2011 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - But with the crowds in these arenas audibly reacting to the hairs-breadth play that makes the professional game so exciting, Top Spin 4 really does come closer than any tennis game to date when it comes to capturing the real essence of one of sport's most graceful games.
Joe Utichi · Mar 31, 2011 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Top Spin 4 is a great step for tennis video games, cleverly joining an authentic experience with a streamlined approach to the gameplay. The addition of Move offers yet another reason to own Sony’s motion controller and true-to-life play style only raises the bar for the series' competition. There is plenty to offer hardcore and casual tennis fans, and above all it’s easy to learn and fun to play — what else could you ask for from a video game?
Adam Dolge · Mar 25, 2011 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Top Spin 4 is tennis at its best. From the off, you're never in any doubt as to the authenticity of its simulation, thanks to the tight controls, great visuals, and in-depth online and offline career modes that make you feel like a professional tennis player on his or her way to the top. Though it sticks to its simulation roots, the new helpers make the game much more accessible, while improved tutorials teach you about different styles of play, making matches tense and strategic and as much fun to watch as they are to play.
Mark Walton · Mar 23, 2011 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - While it’s not a revolution in video game tennis, Top Spin 4 provides both a mastery of the basics and the most comprehensive career mode to date. Throw in a strong roster of real-life professionals, a great online component, and Move functionality for the PS3, and this title is more than ready for center court.
Matt Helgeson · Mar 15, 2011 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - But by heightening the depth of the experience with gorgeous visuals and many small touches, Top Spin 4 delivers the most realistic tennis game to date, and one that easily appeals to purists of the sport. Hopefully 2K Sports will embrace the idea of motion control for their next game and redefine the meaning of simulation.
Sean Engemann · Mar 15, 2011 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Hitting a difficulty sweet spot, Top Spin 4 is deep enough to let you spend hours mastering the perfect volley, but won't turn its nose up at you if you don't fancy anything more than an occasional late-night session of backhanding with Federer
Matt Lees · Apr 03, 2011 Reviewed on X360 - By putting accessibility and instant enjoyment at the forefront, 2K Czech has cast all the old frustrations aside at a stroke, and the fact the developer has eased passage into the game without sacrificing any of its depth is also remarkable. It feels as though a balance has been struck, which should suit players of all skill levels. Whether it will be enough to fend off the impending Virtua Tennis 4 is another matter, but for now it's safe to say the ball is back in SEGA's court.
