  • Ubisoft takes bold steps with tradition in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist in an attempt to please as many as possible, but by doing so dilutes the game's stealthy strength in favour of chasing new audiences. A greater focus on action reduces some of the rough, intimidating edge, and the game opens the door for new players to sneak in by softly rebooting its fiction. However much the changes clash with the series' roots, Blacklist is still a perfectly competent, enjoyable stealth romp whose only crime is inspiring very little awe.

  • It's not perfect and often has some graphical hiccups (disappearing characters during cutscenes are a norm), but the highlight of the experience is the gameplay. I do suggest turning the brightness on your TV all the way up since scenes tend to get really dark, even with night vision or sonar goggles equipped. You might think that it might detract from the gameplay, but trust me, it gets super dark.

  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist is far from terrible, but it's not the classic that Chaos Theory was and it learns the wrong lessons from Conviction. That said, this is the strongest the series has ever been in multiplayer, and for that reason – and for the few missions where its stealth pedigree clicks into place – it's worth peeking into its darkened corners.

  • Blacklist sees Sam Fisher and his covert posse returning to the series’ sneaky-happy roots in good form, and it’s easily one of the best stealth offerings I’ve delved into in a long time. Sporadic cliches in the story and a few weak characters don’t have a huge impact on the overall experience once you get sucked into the highly scaleable spy action.

  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist is hands down the most ambitious game in the series to date. Ubisoft Toronto made a very bold choice to try and appease fans of every past game we’ve seen and create a ‘Splinter Cell For All’ style game. By and large they’ve succeeded fairly well at their task. Sure there are a few minor hiccups and a little bit of adjusting to our new Sam Fisher but as it stands this is a great, if not one of the best, Splinter Cells we’ve seen.

  • Overall, I absolutely loved Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The graphics looked solid, the audio was amazing, and there’s just so much do to that sometimes I find myself taking 5-10 minutes just trying to figure out which mode to start! The upgrades and customization is also something to marvel at. It truly reminds me of Mass Effect 2, where you not only customize your characters armor and weapons, but you can even customize your aircraft. Ubisoft has done a fantastic job bringing the Splinter Cell series back to it’s former glory.

  • Overall, Splinter Cell: Blacklist delivers the best Splinter Cell experience yet. The story is strong and fosters very memorable missions, while the gameplay--both in the main campaign and multiplayer--is extremely rewarding and offers ample replay value. Sure, it suffers from some minor technical issues--and despite the top-notch acting performances, Sam Fisher is no longer the same spy we've come to know and love--but these small grips don't detract much from what is a stellar experience, start to finish.

  • The story is top-notch and reminiscent of some great spy thrillers, while the single player campaign offers some of the strongest missions in the series. There’s not many other games that are this versatile and successfully playable through multiple methods. Visually striking, deep and superbly entertaining, Blacklist cements Splinter Cell as one of the finest action franchises around — and you don’t even have to fire a single bullet.

  • The campaign itself is fairly middling, and can be blazed through in the usual eight-to-ten hour timeframe, but if you talk to your supporting characters and access the ton of extra mission content, you can double the bang for your buck. With Spies vs. Mercs getting so much attention, you'll want to indulge in some multiplayer too if you really want to get the most out of what's on offer.

  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist is one of the most beautiful games out there; cities and outposts feature dust, weathered concrete, ramshackled homes, bright light, and inviting shadows. Ubisoft has taken the best of Splinter Cell and packaged it in a great game that represents a new start for the series. If you love Splinter Cell, don't be afraid of a purchase.
