- Overall Tokyo Dark Remembrance is a joy to play if you like horror at least. Take your mind on a trip in the darkest parts below the sewers of Tokyo and discover one of the most amazing urban legends of the city. The game offers multiple features you can enjoy, which make the game more interesting and even daring at some times. Sadly, the game does not provide us with English voice-acting, which would have been a nice addition, but does not disappoint in any other way.
Spyro · Dec 14, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - While Tokyo Dark sets an appropriately haunting tone, and weaves a competent mystery, it just doesn’t do much else. This isn’t inherently a bad thing, but the game would have been much better served to either streamline all the walking about and poking things into a proper visual novel or to add significantly more point-and-click style puzzles. Either option would have produced a more engaging experience, and likely would have seen me go back to see some alternate endings. If you like these kinds of stories, then Tokyo Dark: Remembrance is likely worth a look.
James Jones · Dec 08, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Any players who enjoy visual novels, choose your own adventures, or supernatural murder mysteries would enjoy this title. As the game itself can be played through to one ending in just a few hours, Tokyo Dark: Remembrance is a great casual game with minimal time commitment. Playing through multiple endings on New Game Plus is still enjoyable, though a bit tedious.
Holly Furman · Nov 10, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Tokyo Dark isn’t necessarily breaking new ground for adventure games, but it’s one worth checking out. Its spin via S.P.I.N presents an intriguing approach to depict a psychological thriller. Instead of leaning heavily on environmental puzzles, Tokyo Dark focuses more on multiple solutions to character interactions. The uneven pacing and inconsistent artstyle hold Tokyo Dark back from being great, though it’s certainly an impressive first game from Cherrymochi.
Josh Torres · Oct 19, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you're looking for something spooky to play during the Halloween season, you could definitely do worse. Like whatever new entry in an annual horror series is going to be announced and released in the span of two weeks when October arrives.
Bass · Sep 24, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - At first, Tokyo Dark seems to be little more than a pale replica of better Japanese adventure and horror games. The game’s presentation is amateurish, its characters are stereotypical, and its depiction of Tokyo doesn’t break any new ground. Thankfully, the game’s innovative SPIN system and focus on player choice heightens what would otherwise be an uninspired homage. Tokyo Dark falls well short of greatness, but hardcore point ‘n’ clickers looking for something a bit different may want to give the game a stab.
Nathan Birch · Sep 13, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you’re after a horror-tinged point and click adventure game you really can’t go wrong with Tokyo Dark. The few control niggles you’ll encounter will quickly be cast aside as you put your nose firmly to the floor searching for the next clue, which is surely the hallmark of a great mystery.
Richard Seagrave · Sep 11, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Although the S.P.I.N. system is not without its annoyances the choices that affect Itō’s personality make the game engaging and force the player to take the puzzles at a more thoughtful pace instead of strong arming every situation.
Azario Lopez · Sep 11, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Tokyo Dark is an enjoyable supernatural mystery that holds your attention up until the end, which makes the disappointing execution of the SPIN system a real shame.
Colm Ahern · Sep 06, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Overall, Tokyo Dark stands as yet another impressive and surprisingly gripping entry into Square Enix Collective’s portfolio of diverse titles, given its scale but more prominently its tone. One that executes the seemingly-impossible task of fusing the elegance of traditional point-and-click gameplay with the engaging story-telling of a visual novel.
