  • Titan Quest at its core isn’t a bad experience, if because of how apparent its influences are. There’s fun to be had from the mechanics of a Diablo game set in a Greek mythology universe with its gods and monsters rather than exploring the depths of hell. It’s clear though that its inspiration is also where its limitations lie, and they painted over cracks in the foundation that are showing through.

  • A certain historical perspective and a touch of nostalgia will go a long way to helping you appreciate Titan Quest and its quirks. That core loop of killing satyrs in four hits before finding rare loot that destroys them in one is as compelling as it ever was. Disappointing visual glitches and the occasional crash give the impression that everything is held together with nothing more than sticky tape and a prayer, but it was never enough to stop us playing.

  • Titan Quest is disappointing because it sounds like a fantastic idea for a game, but it falls flat in almost every way. Since this is the remastered version, I highly doubt they’re going to be revisiting it anytime soon to give it the overhaul it needs to run smoothly and deliver a dynamic experience. If you like mindless hack and slash games that are overly simplistic in design and mundane in appearance, then maybe you’ll enjoy this title.

  • While a minimal amount of enjoyment can be had listening to the wayfarers and tradesmen across the many worlds that the hero visits, there are too many problems that stem from the game’s now ancient design. While titles like Shadow of the Colossus can confidently hold their own in a decade that they were not intended for, it may be a bittersweet sign of the swift progression in the industry that most titles are just not good enough anymore.

This package comes with the first DLC, Immortal Throne, that adds a few extra goodies to the game as well as the new act at the end of the original game. It’s all integrated in from the beginning, so new players won’t notice much of a change. One thing I didn’t know was the just last year, Titan Quest received another new expansion called Ragnarok. Yes, a 12 year old game just got a new expansion.

  • Releasing a PC game on console can work great, but some concessions have to be made for the differing audiences and control schemes. The core gameplay loop is more than capable of holding interest and has been put to great effect in recent games, but here, every opportunity is wasted. If you enjoy obscure interfaces, slow fiddly combat, and dated visuals, then please, fill your boots.

  • In many ways, I’ve been spoiled by Diablo 3. The pace of that game is so breathless, it makes the rest of the genre look plodding by comparison. Yet there’s value in that measured pace. While I started out frustrated, every hour I invested in Titan Quest paid off in full. The joy of watching your ordinary hero turn into a remorseless murder machine, hemorrhaging elemental power in every direction, can’t be overstated.

  • Control issues and poor pacing will turn off some players before the game truly hits its stride, but those who persist will find an experience that has cavernous depth. It's not perfect, but with Diablo 4 yet to be officially announced, Titan Quest on console will scratch the loot-based action RPG itch that many gamers may be feeling, albeit with some frustrations along the way.

  • If you’re a mobile gamer, who loves himself some hardcore Western ARPG, Titan Quest, at the end of the day, is an absolute must.

  • In the end though, Titan Quest’s issues are more of an annoyance than anything that will ruin the fun. And it is a fun game that manages to capture much of what made dungeon crawlers so popular. I’m not entirely convinced that it’ll stand out from the crowd this late in the game, but being able to say that a once power-hungry PC game now fits in your pocket can’t help but put a smile on your face.
