  • EA has plenty of experience at iterating on its huge sports games and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is indicative of that experience. It seems to add just enough to make it worthwhile for owners of last year’s game, while still feeling very familiar. The Pins, Country Clubs and Legacy mode are all welcome additions, although they offer differing levels of appeal.

  • Thanks to the new swing setup, I’ve had more fun playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 than any previous entry in the series. By putting the onus on you to think like a real golfer and execute every shot, PGA Tour 13 makes successful play more rewarding than ever before and gives you the closest possible feeling to mastering a world-class golf course in real life.

  • With the analogue stick still the best method of control, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 actively invites comparisons to its already competent predecessors. Minor tweaks to the swing mechanic improve the rhythm of play but don’t do enough to reinvigorate the series. New additions such as the Country Club and Tiger Legacy mode offer interesting alternatives to the already established campaign mode, but are unlikely to keep you coming back unless you have a deep investment in the game.

  • If you already have Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters on the shelf, think long and hard before buying its successor. The questionable additions like Tiger Legacy and the DLC sales pitches don't add anything to the playability on the links themselves, where it really counts. Only the superior gamepad controls and the iffy Kinect support make the new game stand apart from its predecessor, and even these improvements can't be recommended without some caveats.

  • Once you play a few rounds in PGA Tour 13, it’s hard to stop. There are constant incentives for you to keep playing, from coins and pins to trophies and experience points to club status and daily tournaments. All of these elements are seamlessly tied together, but to get the most out of the game, an online connection is a must.

  • Overall, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is a game fans of the series can pick up as the new additions will likely satisfy those who played last year’s game and are looking for some advancement in the game, especially the addition of the Country Clubs. Unfortunately, when game box says it is “Better with Kinect Sensor” I can’t help but think that this is misleading as this is not the case at all.

  • Everything else about Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is pretty much identical to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12. However, the addition of Kinect Controls, Legacy Challenge, and Country Clubs certainly make it worthwhile to upgrade. In fact, the Legacy Challenge and Country Clubs are worth it even if you don't own a Kinect.

  • Golfers travel the world looking for fame and fortune, and Tiger 13 does the same thing with its various modes and new features. Unfortunately, some of it feels more like a run around than exciting content. This is EA Sports’ first use of Kinect, and it shows. The peripheral doesn’t come close to replicating your backswing with fidelity, and it lacks fluidity and accuracy.

  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 would have been a stellar sports title, with its new emphasis on realism and online clubs, if it traded its microtransactional model for a fairer coin system. No one likes buying a $60 title that thinks it's free to play. If you actually put in the work—the weeks upon weeks of effort playing the game—you still feel shorted by people who put in less work but have more money to spend.

  • For Kinect owners, Tiger 13 finally makes use of full body motion controls, and they feel substantially different than the PS Move or Wii Motion Plus mechanics. Pantomiming golf feels a bit sillier than normal without something in your hand, but Kinect tracks the motion well and provides a new avenue for gamers to get into the sport.
