    The game is good for what it is and if you were a fan of Punch-Out!! in the good old days, this might be something to check out. Especially since the game is relatively cheap. What drags down the whole experience, however, is the play time. There is only one game mode and that is to play the story against eight different characters. This takes around 2.5 to 3 hours depending on how fast you can complete the battles. After that, the only option is to do it all over again.

    With multiple difficulties and many different foes to learn attack patterns for, you’ll find Thunder Ray lasting as long as you want it to. When you consider that you can blast through on Rookie for an easy 1000 Gamerscore, or try and push yourself to be better and defeat it on Beast level, then the levels of content are much appreciated.

    There’s some fun to be had with this game, but a lot of frustration comes with it. Not that spicy frustration that comes from Mike laying you out for the hundredth time, either. No, it’s the frustration of playing a game that gets so close to being a contender instead of a bum. Here’s hoping some updates can turn this one around so it can become a comeback kid in the future.

    Thunder Ray isn’t perfect, but it is very good. The feel of the blows and the creativity of your opponents are very nicely executed. It’s missing the minute precision of Punch-Out!!, but it’s close enough, and while you can occasionally win matches at higher difficulties with a certain amount of luck, you’ll get the most from the experience by mastering each opponent and earning a true sense of boxing accomplishment. Being able to toggle between difficulties and going back to previous opponents is great, and the entire thing feels polished and flashy. It could have been more elaborate, featuring more modes, and bonuses, but, as it stands, it’s a brief but solid tribute for fans of Punch-Out!! to enjoy knocking into next week.

    Thunder Ray logra tomar lo que funcionó de los títulos clásicos de boxeo y agregarle su propio toque moderno para que destaque, pero tampoco le alcanza para reinventar la fórmula o ser un antes y un después del género. Tampoco es como que apunte a serlo, pero al ver que metieron un par de ideas interesantes, creemos que el potencial para haber ido un poco más lejos se desaprovechó.
