- This War of Mine: Forget Celebrations is a great, if short, scenario that puts you in difficult shoes and forces you to make difficult choices.
Mezbah Turzo · Jan 02, 2025 Reviewed on PCRead full review - This War of Mine is an atmospheric survival game about ordinary people trying their best to survive in a besieged city during a devastating war.
Erich Zann · Mar 14, 2022 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - This War of Mine remains an affecting survival experience on Switch and this edition is a comprehensive package. A couple of minor technical issues do little to diminish its power and, although the lack of touch controls is odd, sleep mode is a winner for squeezing in a few days as-and-when you can. Switch arguably helps make this downbeat game as accessible as possible, though there’s little point in double-dipping if you’ve tried it elsewhere.
Gavin Lane · Dec 07, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - And in general, This War of Mine is a slow game. It takes patience, and that’s not a bad thing, but there are stretches of the main game that feel like you’re just going through the motions. Maybe that’s the point, because it’s not glitz and glory and explosions and being the hero… it’s survival.
William Murphy · Nov 29, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - This War of Mine does a fantastic job of providing a thought-provoking experience through strategic thinking and tough decision making. As you begin to learn more about the systems with each passing day, it’s easy not to notice real-world minutes turn into hours. I found myself restarting a campaign quite often after discovering a new strategy and my enjoyment increased each time.
David Lloyd · Nov 26, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - This War of Mine is an emotional rollercoaster that will actually affect how and why you make decisions. The gritty art-style is stunning. Each time you play, there is a new war-torn world and a new group of citizens to maintain alive. Some items aren’t currently functioning well, like the heater, which is always cold. Fast-paced action fans will find this game quite boring.
Daniel Adrian Sanchez · Sep 04, 2015 Reviewed on - Entertainment becomes art in this survival game about the human tolls of war. Your heart will break with every tough choice you make to keep your war refugees alive. At times, This War of Mine is downright hard to stomach, but it is a masterpiece all the same.
Michael Jaoui · Aug 06, 2015 Reviewed on AndRead full review - When one of my protagonists dies it’s utterly devastating, sometimes to the point of which I’ll restart the game before it has a chance to save… but don’t tell anyone that. We’re bored of predictable, two-dimensial experiences and we’re bored of cheats that make “serious” games too easy. Every now and again we like losing because then when we win it’s the sweetest victory, though with This War of Mine it probably wouldn’t feel like a victory at all.
Emily Sowden · Jul 23, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - This War of Mine isn’t exactly “fun,” but it’s definitely a game worth playing. ...If you’ve already played This War of Mine on PC there isn’t much reason for you to do so again on the iPad, but the portability is nice. If you haven’t played it at all, you should really consider doing so. I won’t promise that you’ll enjoy yourself, but it will definitely stick with you long after you turn it off.
Rob Rich · Jul 15, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - This War of Mine is a fantastic experience that shouldn’t be missed if you have the opportunity to play it. It’s the type of game that can make people look at the video game genre and see it’s story telling potential, even if the story is unfolding right before your eyes. Even though the gameplay mechanics may get boring for some, it does enough to influence your characters livelihood while not giving you enough control to make them suicide at everything they do. That’s life for you: it’s not fair, and this game will remind you of that.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
A survival-themed strategy game where the player controls a group of civilian survivors in a makeshift shelter in a besieged, war-torn city. The main goal of the game is to survive the war with the tools and materials the player can gather with the characters they control. Most of the characters under the player's control have no military background or any kind of survival experience, and will require constant intervention by the player in order to stay alive. It is the player's responsibility to maintain their characters' health, hunger and mood levels until the declaration of a ceasefire, which occurs after a randomized duration.
