- Them's Fightin' Herds is a very enjoyable game with more than a few caveats. The fighting is fun and has plenty of depth, but the tiny roster can feel very limiting. Online play is smooth and there are a number of things to do and options to work with, but it also means that experiencing defeat at the hands of a small but skilled player population will be done without any lag.
Cody Medellin · Dec 20, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a fighter at it’s core that didn’t wow me. The controls felt like they were made for a fight stick and the controller just got mapped after the fact. The game has an interesting story mode however that at least makes it stand out and is different enough than your standard fighting game fare. Online lobbies are existent but the population is almost not. Hopefully more players will fill them in the future.
Corey Lyle · Nov 11, 2022 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Them’s Fightin’ Herds is one of the best ideas in the fighting game scene in a while. The roster could use a boost, but everything else here is fantastic. The fighting feels great, the modes are plentiful, and the design is excellent.
Ken McKown · Oct 24, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Almost everything that’s currently present in Them’s Fightin’ Herds is excellent, with the exception of a few platforming sections in the story mode. The issue is that even two years after initially releasing on PC, it still doesn’t feel like a completed game, nor have the developers been clear about when that will change.
Andrew Thornton · Oct 20, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - It’s easy to look at it and think that it’s going to be a jokey affair, and while there is an air of playfulness about it, at its core is a solid, taut fighting system. Add in the genuinely unique story mode, and you have a fighting game that’s well worth your time and money, despite having a limited roster of fighters and uninspiring stages.
Richard Seagrave · Oct 18, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a fantastic value for its price. Boasting great network play and a solid amount of offline content with more story mode updates and a season pass of new characters on the way. I love the art direction and the characters, who are voiced by some awesome talent and have bits and pieces of personality from the show it took inspiration from, but still having enough to differentiate themselves by game mechanics and aesthetics.
Genghis Husameddin · Oct 18, 2022 Reviewed onRead full review - It’s challenging even on its default difficulty with AI that won’t fall prey to simple or repetitive routines. While its story mode is engineered toward a particular fanbase, the wild combo-building demonstrates an excellent multiplayer experience.
Tom Massey · Oct 18, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Them's Fightin' Herds is one of those indie games with a lot of heart and moxie, that wears its heart on its sleeve and shoots for the stars with what it tries for, even if not everything comes out polished on first blush. It is a fighting game born out of passion and intersects at a weird venn diagram of people that a project like this will even appeal to.
Alex Cooke · Oct 18, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - There are some very big ideas inside Them’s Fightin’ Herds deceptively small package. Even incomplete, its story mode is already one of the most innovative I’ve seen in a fighting game in ages, and its sprite-based online lobbies are interesting – though unfortunately lacking the player base to really make them shine. It also nails the important things, like great netcode, quick rematches, and tight combat with a cast of fun and remarkably diverse characters.
Mitchell Saltzman · May 05, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a fun new interpretation of a fighting game, with strong aesthetic and design identities on display. The netcode isn’t great, but the game does its best, and all in all there are a lot worse fighters out there. Some of the controls in the story mode are tricky, but all in, Mane6 have carried it off with aplomb.
