- It seems simple sometimes and is deceptively difficult at others. Despite all the conflicting designs incorporated, I never got the feeling the game wasn’t sure what it wanted to be. Nothing really feels out of place in this whacky, bizarre adventure from a school bus all the way to the stars. It proudly stands out with its own identity and offers something that is thoroughly completely different from your average action game.
Alex C · Sep 17, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - If you’re an action game fan, or someone just looking for something a little different, I highly recommend you check out The Wonderful 101.
John Zaccari · Oct 05, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - I wanted to like this game more. It’s charming, technically competent but ultimately I could not get past it’s shortcomings to consider it much more than an average game. What I hoped was a steep learning curve in drawing the various special moves never got any easier and most often just led to frustration. I kept wondering to myself, “Am I missing something here?” That’s disappointing because I like the idea of the game but the execution just isn’t there.
Shad Forsyth · Oct 01, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Long story short, The Wonderful 101 is a very interesting game that won’t appeal to most people. While the combat might be deeper and more complex than Bayonetta, having to draw the shapes won’t appeal to everyone. This is also true for the cinematic feel and unique stage mechanics. If you don’t mind these things, however, then there is well over a hundred hours of gameplay to be found here.
Grant E. Gaines · Sep 22, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - The Wonderful 101 experiments with inventive concepts and has plenty of charm. No matter how noble its intentions, it is brought down by the same thing that has ruined so many other superhero teams. The individual aspects are interesting alone, but they just have trouble working together.
Joe Juba · Sep 15, 2013 Reviewed on Wii U - The Wonderful 101 is a good game, but it's definitely not for everyone. There's a lot of character here - from the ridiculous vinyl costumes to the overblown stereotypes of nationalities. None of that's even to mention the hilarious custom theme song ("The Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful ONE DOUBLE O!") that plays during epic action sequences. This game has a ton of potential, but it just fails to quite capture what it could have been.
Jonathan Bolding · Sep 11, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - The Wonderful 101 is one of those rare games that keeps getting more and more fun the more that you play it. If you have the dexterity to handle the controls and the patience to deal with a few momentum-killing platforming/puzzle bits, you're in for a heck of a time.
Jonathan Holmes · Sep 10, 2013 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - The game makes tired but universal themes like honor and loyalty feel as cool as they did when you were in pajamas....
Ben Moore · Sep 10, 2013 Reviewed on Wii U - Like most Platinum games, however, whatever issues might plague Wonderful 101 are glossed over with charm and an idiosyncratic vision. Sorting through dozens of heroes, picking out your leader and imbuing him or her with a personality feels like dumping your toy box on the floor and gathering up the ones you want to play with.
Garrett Martin · Sep 10, 2013 Reviewed on Wii U - The Wonderful 101 is a must-have title for any Wii U owner who enjoys the challenge of classic gaming. I suspect my generation, us '80s kids who grew up gaming and are now in our thirties and early forties, will like it best, but all experienced gamers should give it a try.
