  • Even so, despite my qualms with the final few areas and the overall length of the experience, as I said at the top I came away from The Pedestrian with a smile on my face. The core concept is very clever, making use of the visuals and presentation within the puzzles as well as using it to fill in the background with more interesting fare. Puzzle platformers a hardly rare, but if you’re looking for a unique and challenging entry The Pedestrian is well worth a look.

  • The Pedestrian is a fantastic journey through the backdrop of the mundane. By making everyday backgrounds appear almost magical, and with its creative puzzle design, it never outlives its welcome.

  • The Pedestrian is one of the best puzzle experiences I’ve had on the console. It starts off strong and carries that energy throughout the rest of the adventure, dishing out new mechanics and obstacles at a comfortable pace that never had me feeling bored or disinterested.

  • Overall, I would say The Pedestrian is a very solid puzzle platformer game from start to finish. Even the final puzzle was very enjoyable. I don’t think I could ever recall a time in this game where I felt I wasn’t enjoying it at all. If you’re into puzzles, this game is certainly for you. It’s everything you could ever want from a puzzle game and more.

  • However, if you look hard enough, there are some clues that can build a larger picture. As a PlayStation 5 title, it uses the console’s features well, especially the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback. While it may not be for everyone, The Pedestrian is worth a shot. It stands out from the crowd in so many ways, leaving a positive impact on me in the end.

  • While The Pedestrian is a great puzzle platformer, it's not perfect. Probably the most noticeable absence in the game is a hint system. The puzzles can get extremely difficult at times, becoming borderline frustrating even. Additionally, another missed opportunity is in the game’s use of the touchpad.

  • My first session saw me burn through the first half of the game in an afternoon before my noggin needed some downtime. As the puzzles ramped up in difficulty, it slowed me down a touch but only because I was being much more deliberate and triple checking everything. Putting this one up there as one of the best puzzlers available for PlayStation gamers, right below A Fold Apart.

  • The Pedestrian taps terrifically into the many joys, frustrations and epiphanies that this genre of video game is so good at carving out. Clever, confident and a fine debut for Skookum Arts, The Pedestrian has established a clear high bar — marking itself down as this year’s first must-play for puzzle enthusiasts far and wide.

  • It's a game that's clear about what it wants to achieve and does so in neat and tidy fashion, then. Perhaps it's unfair to chastise it for not doing more. Perhaps we've just been spoiled by the likes of Braid, Inside et al, whose reveals and U-turns leave real impact. Spoiled or not, I was left cold by the scarcity of narrative or stylistic flourishes, but fortunately the difficulty spike's gradient is so expertly judged and the presentation so inherently endearing that The Pedestrian can't help but be a joy for its brief duration.

  • Narrative misgivings aside, The Pedestrian would make a solid introduction to puzzle-platformers for the uninitiated and an enjoyable diversion for genre veterans. It’s hard to find fault with the originality or functionality of its puzzles or the charm of its presentation. It even has a few surprises in store for players of all types, although if you’re like me, those surprises might sour the overall impression a bit.
