- The Pathless is a very solid action-adventure game, one that arguably is something that Xbox lacks. While a two-year-old game won’t set the world on fire in sales; I can recommend this to those folks who may have been waiting for this release on Xbox, the bright colors and almost anime-like graphics and exceptionally well-done soundtrack make for a chill and mostly rewarding experience.
Terrence Johnson · Mar 21, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Lastly, there were a few frame hiccups here and there, most notably when entering a new plateau for the first time. These problems are relatively minor, though, and I still found the game to be incredibly fun to play regardless, but if they’re a deal breaker for you it’d be a better idea to look to other platforms for your Pathless experience. Overall, The Pathless is a game those looking for some action and exploration should definitely give a try.
Joe Devader · Mar 01, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Journey was likely an inspiration to The Pathless. But from my perspective, The Pathless failed at all the elements that made Journey special. There weren’t any strong emotional moments, and the game just got blander as it went on. It didn’t have an awesome story or finale to elevate it. And I didn’t want to play more when the game was over.
Stephan Adamus · Feb 06, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The game sounds exceptional and looks great in this impressive port. However, the puzzles rarely stimulate the imagination and are fussy to play, while boss encounters are overlong and repetitive. Although it has its significant successes, The Pathless, unfortunately, doesn’t manage to become more than the sum of its parts.
Roland Ingram · Feb 05, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The Pathless is still a beautiful, well-designed game on the Switch. If this is the only platform you have available to play it on, it’s still well worth your time and an easy recommendation. Players who have other options may want to consider them as performance is an occasional issue here, and the DualSense implementation on the PS5 is some of the best on the system, but I still enjoyed revisiting The Pathless.
Andrew Thornton · Feb 02, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Rounding things off, The Pathless has a nice visual design and cleverly designed puzzles to solve. The movement mechanic is different but may not be to everyone’s taste and could even be off-putting for some. My main issue is that once gameplay has been established in the first and second sections it is pretty much repeated for the remainder of the game.
Harm0nica · Jan 30, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - I can honestly say that I’ve never played a game quite like it. Once you get the hang of the movement system, venturing across the land is a delight. Even the boss fights feel like one fluid dance. It’s an ambitious game, but one that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Without a doubt, this is one path worth traveling.
Heidi Hawes · Dec 16, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - You wanted the sprite to win, and you welcomed the explosion of spring. By contrast, the creatures of The Pathless put up a good fight, but, once you’ve felled them, and the shadows leak away, you almost wish they would rage against the dawning of the light.
Josh Wise · Dec 03, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - While it's not without its flaws, The Pathless is still more fun than it is not, with impressive visuals, fun boss fights, relaxing puzzles, and an interesting movement system. It's one of the better PS5 launch games, and it's easy to see how a sequel could elevate the concept to the next level and become something special.
Dalton Cooper · Nov 29, 2020 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The story comes to a satisfying end, after which I gleefully jumped back in to start mopping up the remainder of the puzzles. The cherry on top is the soundtrack, a typically wonderful Austin Wintory score that incorporates the superb sounds of throat singing band Alash. The Pathless sacrifices difficulty at the altar of fun, and it works superbly.
