  • Overall, while this game has a unique charm and an interesting world, the gameplay failed to make it a fond experience. For big fans of the genre, this might be worth picking up for a few hours’ entertainment, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

  • Despite a disappointing lack of touch support and resulting control irritations, The Inner World has much to like and Asposia’s warped characters are delightful company, provided you’re happy to ask for help when you’re stuck. There’s certainly no shame in that – and the hints system works perfectly – but we didn’t have enough ‘eureka!’ moments of our own to feel sufficiently satisfied with its wilfully obtuse solutions.

  • Set in a world and fascinating world brought to life with brilliant visuals, a fantastic soundtrack and wonderfully likeable characters, it’s a shame that The Inner World‘s controls on console are so awkward, as otherwise the game is perhaps one of the best examples of the point and click genre. I’m very glad I got to play it, and I’ll continue to be happy to see point and click games being ported to console, but I just hope more care is taken in creating an intuitive control system.

The Inner World is a solid adventure game that’s whimsical yet dark, and accessible to those who may not have much experience with adventure games. I think I’ll be playing through this again, somewhere down the line. For an adventure game, that’s high praise from me.

  • Overall, The Inner World is an intriguing point-and-click adventure with the gameplay you would expect from the genre. The strength of the game relies heavily on its off-kilter dialogue and story, despite some minor issues with controls and lengthy, tedious dialogue at times. Furthermore, the art of The Inner World is charming despite a relative lack of polish, but the saving grace is perhaps the memorable cast of characters that inhabit this inner world.

  • The Inner World is a solid enough adventure game that should satisfy any fan of the genre looking for a fun little title to pass the time. There are a nice assortment of puzzles here, and the charming presentation combined with an amusing fantasy story in a well crafted fantasy world all come together to make The Inner World seem great, even if any individual aspect is no better than good.

  • The Inner World sports a highly realised fantasy world carried by a charming art style and well animated character sprites, although, unfortunately, the quality of the animation does not fully extend to its cut-scenes. It is otherwise sizeable for its price and a more than competent point-and-click adventure that just feels slightly sluggish because of how slow the dialogue plays out and also confusing at times due to how the actual gameplay mechanics are implemented.

  • The Inner World has the potential to be a great adventure title, but unfortunately the use interface is a bit too confusing to provide a worthwhile experience.

  • A great point and click game on a console, only mildly let down by it’s slightly frustrating control scheme. Full of charm, wit and plenty of humour along the way; The Inner World delivers a fun and interesting story to keep you going.

  • The Inner World is another excellent point and click adventure on PlayStation 4, and in general . Between its great characters, unique art style, and great story, this game is fascinating and should leave newcomers and experienced players coming back for more. While there are plenty of flaws, they don't come anywhere near as close to being annoying as the rest of the game comes to being perfect.

About the game

Robert is a novice, a bit clueless, but with a heart of gold. He lives a peaceful life as a court musician in Asposia's largest wind monastery. Contrary to the laws of physics, Asposia is an enormous, hollow space surrounded by an infinite expanse of earth. The world's air is provided through three wind fountains, but as one wind fountain after the other petered out and the wind gods came to Asposia, all of the sudden Robert found him in the middle of a whirlwind.
