  • In all, The Crew can be enjoyable for some casual cross-country joy rides, especially if you have some friends to drive along. However, it comes up entirely short of most of its goals, and makes a wreck of car handling and competition for the sake of lackluster MMO mechanics.

  • Overall, we’ve enjoyed the time we’ve spent playing The Crew. Its huge game world and rewarding RPG aspects have kept us entertained to the completion of the story and I’m sure we’ll sink more time into its faction and PVP events. Whilst it’s not perfect, it puts more steps right than wrong and is a solid basis for any future entries in the series.

  • While ambitious in attempting to craft a living breathing world with tons to do, it falls short with poor driving and being loaded with superfluous content intended to run up the play clock. The co-op is fun but recommending a driving game where the main activity of driving is no fun is a tough sell.

  • The Crew offers you the entire countryside to explore solo or with friends (or strangers), plenty of cars, customization options, and a narrative that extends a purpose beyond “being the best” to get your motor running. Ubisoft’s familiar structural pitfalls like microtransactions, online-only play, and other trappings hinder rather than enhance, but those things have become par for the course by now.

  • I really want to love The Crew. The in game world is absolutely huge and it’s filled with a great deal of content – it looks brilliant at times too. Although the handling takes some time getting used to it does feel natural as the game begins to open up. Despite that, the driver AI can be infuriating at times, as with the traffic placement which I refuse to believe is a coincidence. The online doesn’t feel well integrated either and the story is uninspiring.

I know many people have been skeptical of The Crew, and after playing it, I have no issues. Just exploring the world was a blast for me. My time spent with the game was very enjoyable, and with some friends it is even more fun. It has a few issues, but The Crew is a fun game with an action movie story that I think many will enjoy especially in co-op.

  • Its tremendous scope, solid visuals, and great customization options make a strong impression on a novice wheelman like myself. But as the story killed my dreams and dragged them through the mud somewhere near Phoenix, Arizona, I just couldn’t maintain my enthusiasm. Malfunctioning features and confusing development choices finally laid my aspirations to rest. It wasn’t terrible. Maybe I will play it again.

  • If you'd have asked me after hour five what The Crew was, I would have said a solid 50% score. Hour ten? 60%. Thankfully though, the home straight is what saves The Crew from being just another average racer and with its incredibly game world, it’s worth dipping your toe in. Just don’t expect it to get decent for a long time, but when it does, it’s almost worth the wait.

  • In terms of simply racing around the expansive map you’ll find you can have a lot of fun with The Crew, especially if you bring some friends and ‘crew up’. Unfortunately the onslaught of ‘too much of a good thing’ waters the experience down and with egregious connection issues and pay-to-advance micro transactions the shine dulls even further. It pains me to say it seeing as I had such high hopes but The Crew missed its mark by a long shot and just barely chugs over the starting line.

  • Taking a drive across its varied landscape with a posse of other players is a memorable experience, and while it takes a little time to level your cars to a point where they’re actually fun to drive, when you get there.... It’s a real let down, then, that the rest of the package fails to come close to matching the same standard, with excessive AI rubber banding, inconsistent physics, and an unimaginative story all acting as dead weight.
