  • While The Bunker lets you explore an actual nuclear fallout shelter, accompanied by great sound design and decent acting, it can be completed in a single sitting. There’s very little in terms of gameplay variance, and there are other games out there that’ll give you more playtime for your $12. Unless you like the novelty of an FMV game on your Switch, give it a pass unless there’s a sale.

  • The Bunker was a game I really wanted to enjoy. I love the idea of mixing movies and video games as they are two things I am massively passionate about but this just doesn’t work. It doesn’t work as a video game and it doesn’t work as a movie. While it looks great, the acting leaves a lot to be desired and there just isn’t any involvement for the player as you’re just pressing the A Button a couple of times here and there without ever really having to make choices. It had potential and any future games can certainly learn a lot from this, but my advice is to stay well away unless you’re absolutely desperate for something to do for an hour or two.

  • The Switch release offers both the touchscreen comfort of the mobile version and the cinematic immersion of the home console versions, so there’s no better place to catch up if you skipped it first time round. However, lack of pointer control is a sorely missed opportunity to improve on the original release.

  • There wasn’t a moment I ever cringed, or raised an eyebrow. In fact, I actually winced and closed my eyes at one part because of the graphic nature of the scene. It’s short, and replayability is pushed for because of the insertion of collectibles and a branching path ending. But I didn’t find these enticing enough to come back. Once in the Bunker, was enough for me.

  • Despite its issues, I enjoyed my time with The Bunker. Its shortcomings are only noticeable because of how well made the rest of it is. The Bunker's tone and look make you want it to be more complicated from both a narrative and mechanical standpoint, but what it accomplishes on these fronts is at least as good as other games like it. As a result, it's a good adventure game, but one that also compels you to wish it were better.

  • Fans of the narrative genre will enjoy The Bunker, but there really isn’t much of a reason to go back once it’s over.

  • If you were trying to convince your past self as to why FMV games would have a miniature comeback, The Bunker probably wouldn’t be the best example to use. After all, it’s clear that emphasis was placed on telling a compelling story over gameplay. But compelling it is indeed, so for some it may easily be possible to overlook any shortcomings concerning challenge and controls in favor of a truly chilling tale about a life after the end.

  • While The Bunker is a rather straightforward adventure game, its FMV trappings are enough for it to stick out from the crowd. It’s proof that full-motion video doesn’t have to be campy in order to succeed, and can be just as viable as any other form of animation for the right type of game. Check it out if you’re looking to experience a solid story, and play something a bit different.

  • Trying to piece together the story from your own interpretation and from the scattered documents found around the bunker is part of the fun, but even when you think you understand, the plot is always chasing you, ready to knock you for six. The Bunker is a story that has to be experienced first-hand to truly appreciate, and I strongly urge that you do.

  • On paper, The Bunker sounds like a fantastic premise for a taut psychological horror that's both claustrophobic and frightening. As it stands, however, the game doesn't hang together as well as it should, most moments of drama provoking laughter when you should be on the edge of your seat. One instance made me grit my teeth and squirm, but the rest of the game is ineffective in generating any real atmosphere. I really wanted to love The Bunker, but it just doesn't work.
