- But while the 3DS adaptations of Super Street Fighter IV and Dead or Alive feel robust, the same can't be said for Tekken 3D. No, Tekken 3D's offerings come off feeling nobust. And if you try to play against someone online, slowbust. If 3DS owners are lucky, Namco Bandai won't wait another ten years to release another Tekken for Nintendo portables, and hopefully it will build on Tekken 3D's strong foundation to create a complete Tekken experience.
Eric Caoili · Feb 22, 2012 Reviewed on 3DS - Tekken 3D Prime Edition may be technically proficient, but with little interesting solo content and a clunky online experience, we struggled to stay interested. Kudos to Namco Bandai for raising the bar on 3D fighters' frame rates, but beyond that, it's tough to get excited about a game that seems content with the bare minimum.
Andrew Hayward · Feb 17, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Tekken 3D Prime Edition is an inconsistent package. On the one hand, it sets technical milestones for future fighting games on the 3DS to meet. Apart from these achievements, the game leaves a lot to be desired. If you love Tekken and don't mind the inherent control limitations of the 3DS, the portable multiplayer experience may be reason enough to justify your purchase. If you're looking for a portable fighting game that mimics the content found in console titles, however, you should look elsewhere.
Peter Brown · Feb 15, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Tekken 3D Prime Edition definitely gets props for recreating the fast combat and fluidity of the series on a handheld. However, the lack of any real depth in the modes and lack of customization features for your fighters makes it tough to want to spend an extended amount of time with it.
Steven Hopper · Feb 14, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Ultimately, this could have been the definitive Tekken. As it stands, Namco Bandai will have to settle with having a good video game, by no means a bad thing, and if all you plan to enjoy is multiplayer, raise the score another half star.
Chris Buffa · Feb 14, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Tekken 3D Prime Edition is a good if unspectacular Tekken transition. Its 41 characters and 60fps frame rate is unmatched on 3DS, and while it arguably lacks a truly meaty challenge for a single player it's enjoyable enough that you won't really mind. It won't set the world alight, but it's another strong addition to 3DS's array of big name scrappers.
James Newton · Feb 14, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - For all its talk of trumping its competition with dazzling 60 frames-per-second 3D visuals, Tekken 3D: Prime Edition lacks enough variety to keep us coming back. It's Tekken, but it's not prime Tekken. Tekken 3D nails its formula but doesn’t provide much room to show off and flex it. As far as arcade fighters go, there are better, more substantial alternatives now with much cheaper price tags.
Tom Worthington · Feb 27, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - It's the equivalent of buying a new Mercedes without the heated massage seats, bass-pumping stereo and turbo-charged acceleration. The ride's still awesome, but you can't shake the feeling that something's missing.
Matt Edwards · Feb 17, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Tekken 3DS enters a largely empty market, one only previously occupied by a Street Fighter instalment and the 3DS edition of that series that makes a selling point out of 'jiggle physics'. Unfortunately, despite the over-the-top character roster (and the hilariously po-faced way it's presented), solid graphics, and unwavering adherence to basic fighting conventions, there's nothing here that really commands attention.
