- Anybody familiar with the Harvest Moon series will not be surprised, but Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a real gem of a game. If you enjoy farming sims, this is an in-depth and fun experience that can keep you occupied for months, plus it’s a perfect starting point for newcomers to get into the series. We will surely keep on visiting Mineral Town for many weeks (or even months) to come.

The gameplay itself just feels super repetitive and I feel that I gain little to nothing for my efforts. The sad thing is I can’t even find myself enjoying the grind it takes to make the money to get upgrades to be involved in certain town events. The characters alone are the saving grace for me but they alone can’t force me to stay in Mineral Town for too long.
Varnell Harris · Nov 01, 2021 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Stardew Valley has trampled the Story of Seasons series under its hoof, and the Persona series has made the day-to-day grind exciting and meaningful. But if you love farm sims and you’re looking for a simpler, more relaxing alternative to Stardew Valley, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town will undoubtedly provide you with hours upon hours of content.
Stephan Adamus · Oct 21, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Friends of Mineral Town may not feature quite everything that the newest Story of Seasons games have, but it comes fairly close and it does so while remaking one of the series most popular titles. Fans of this long-running farming series should feel good picking the remake up and playing it whenever they can, and if you're a recent convert (from, say, the breakout success of Stardew Valley), you will also undoubtedly love this title as well. Welcome back to Mineral Town!
Gregory Wright · Jul 20, 2020 Reviewed on PC - This remake of a Gameboy Advance classic will hopefully find some new followers on this newer system. The easy-going, laid back, open-world style might not be the perfect fit for everyone. The game's tried-and-true formula, with short calendar days, seems to be a prime fit for short gameplay stints, especially for people who have busy lives.
Scott Jeslis · Jul 17, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a welcome remake of the original title of the Harvest Moon series. The graphics are super adorable while the sound fits perfectly, even though it has its flaws here and there. For the gameplay, the all-known ingredients are still present but it would have been nice if there was a certain goal to work towards and if some small issues were addressed or updated. Overall, it’s a nice title to play if you’re in the mood of getting your hands dirty and finding love, but it might not get you immersed like other titles are able to from this franchise.
AnneMieke · Jul 14, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s been 17 years since the GBA version and while it’s great that they’re trying to recapture that nostalgia that made people fall in love with the genre in the first place, things have moved on. It makes for an interesting history lesson if you want to see what inspired Stardew Valley and how far things have progressed since then, but perhaps it’s time to put Mineral Town out to pasture.
Daniella Lucas · Jul 10, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town offers up a perfectly satisfying and simple take on the farm sim genre. Heartwarming character interactions, easy to grasp farming mechanics, and a nice variety of side activities prove to make this release a potent and worthwhile entry in this long-running series.
Mitch Vogel · Jul 09, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Progress feels much slower and measured than something like Stardew Valley, but it also means it offers potentially more longevity. If you’re looking for something to sink hours into and enjoy a slow, steady stroll rather than an action-packed sprint, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town might just be for you.
Kim Snaith · Jul 09, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town brings a classic back to life with 3D visuals and all of what people loved about it intact. But the comparative simplicity of the game's systems plus the high cost compared to similar games will possibly scare off players who don't already have a soft spot in their heart for the game.
