  • A fitting swan song for imageepoch and another gem in the 3DS' legendary RPG lineup, Stella Glow is smart, stylish, and seriously satisfying. Fans of SRPGs will get a kick out of the combat, characters, and strategy, the fun, fast-paced story will keep you entertained to the end, and the musical motif works wonderfully, winding its way through the gameplay and presentation with ease. A few interface wobbles keep it from being a totally perfect show, but they're minor concerns in an otherwise spellbinding performance. Stella Glow is absolutely worth singing about.

While the story is a bit too predictable for my tastes, everything from the visuals to the combat felt very polished from beginning to end. It’s quite unfortunate that this is likely the last game Imageepoch will release, but perhaps they will rest well knowing that they went out on a high note.

  • In many ways, Stella Glow is a by-the-numbers strategy RPG, but it does have a partially interesting cast, some unique storylines, and a working combat system. Imageepoch has had some ups and downs in their lengthy career, but thankfully they can at least end on somewhat of a high note.

  • Its story and characters are charming and interesting, while its world is differentiated from others of its kind due to how whimsical and fantastical it all feels. It also boasts air-tight combat mechanics that go off without a single hitch. Mix in vibrant aesthetics and a emotionally-resonate soundtrack, and Stella Glow feels full featured and worthy of one’s time and money.

  • As Imageepoch's swan song, it may not be a slam dunk, but it's clear that Stella Glow was crafted with care from people who know the genre, even if at times you just have to stare at whatever just happened in disbelief and say, “Okay, whatever, game.”

  • As we come to the end of the year, I figured there’d be an Atlus-published strategy RPG on my game of the year list; I just never imagined there’d be two. But Stella Glow made beautiful music with my heart, and you definitely need to pick it up and get that soundtrack CD.

  • What Stella Glow does isn’t anything revolutionary or spectacular but instead it tries to bring a genre that prides itself on interesting game mechanics and devices to the forefront. The narrative isn’t the most enticing, but it’s a serviceable story that will keep players intrigued from beginning to end. The package that is Stella Glow is one definitely worth checking out especially if you have an itch for a strategy game that harkens back to the good ol’ isometric days.

  • The amnesiac hero, a stoic knight who is all business, tsundere girls, and a harem of ladies to romance - it seems this is going to be one in a million other anime style cliché and trope-y JRPGs at first, but for those who stick with Stella Glow, they will find so much more.

  • All in all, Stella Glow is a strong story that puts a clever twist on the tactical RPG format. The pacing could be better; watching the same battle animations can get annoying, but they can be skipped or disabled entirely. There's a lot of text to get through, but much of it is voiced, and the characters are fun and engaging, as well as attractively designed.

  • There’s a lot to like about Stella Glow, but it has a few flaws and annoyances. I don’t like the lack of a speed setting, or having no auto skip option for battles. Elsewhere, some of the missions that require multiple battle victories outstay their welcome, and some of the characters you socialise with aren’t as interesting either. These aren’t major issues but they hold Stella Glow back from being an easy recommendation.

    About the game

For an entire millennium, the world has been devoid of "song" as a result of a savage war. Only 5 Witches left in the land are able to use "song magic."
